this is a perfect my-lips-but-better color for my NC50 complexion!! it just blends beautifully. not as shiny as i thought it would be, but it is a lovely color!! :) wish they sold it in Sephora because the color can only be purchased online.

I wasn't sure about the whole "gloss pot" concept with these, but after seeing how Butterfield 8 actually looked on my lips, I wouldn't care if they packaged it in egg cartons!!! This is the most sophisticated nude color I have ever tried. To say it is my "HG" is such an understatement. If you try to buy one of these and find it's sold out, blame me. My plan is to buy every one I can get my grubby little hands on! The perfect nude - it doesn't make me look like death! Gotta love this one. Now ... for the perfect NARS lip liner pencil to go with it. Hmmm. Any suggestions????

Other reviewers have already commented on the product's weird smell; I'll agree with that. But I will also agree that this is a perfect everyday color for me, a brown-eyed brunette with fair / light skin. Apply with a brush for the best results (yes, it's sticky), but the color lasts longer than most other glosses I own; it looks great with either dramatic or everyday eyes. It's no more pricey than other brand-name lipglosses, but I'd love it even more if they made it with a wand. I was so disappointed to see that Sephora no longer sells this color, but it's still on the NARS website.

This is my HG nude lipgloss. I'm a CCC, about a NC43, and most nudes that I've tried look to chalky on me. Not Butterfield 8 -- it's a light milk chocolate color, with a tint of pink, that looks wonderful. It's somewhat sheer, but does have decent pigment. Plus the formulation of Nars Lip Lacquer is great --- excellent staying power. I bought mine on ebay because Sephora no longer carries it.

Lip lacquers feel really good on my lips, and once they wear off, my lips feel nice and smooth. This color is a pretty brown, with a tiny bit of brick red mixed in. It's nice, but it is too dark for my skin tone. It is a very warm color, which works well with my slightly yellow skin.

I love these lip lacquers! I love butterfield 8! It is like the color of toffee with a warm undertone. It can be applied sheerly on lips by dabbing on bottom lip and rubbing lips together. I love it for going out to dinner when I want a little more color to my lips and when I do a non dramatic eye. It wears forever, thick and full coverage, non slippery, and just great quality overall. I got mine brand new in a swap and I don't notice any funny smell. Seems to me like there is no smell. The packaging leaves much to be desired since I hate having to dip my finger in it but the gloss is so nice and pretty and most importantly it lasts on my lips without drying. I just make sure my hands are clean or I use a clean lipbrush. Love this color! FYI NC30-35, brown eyes, long warm brown hair.

EDIT: Yeah it does smell like crayons. =( But the quality is still superb!

I LOVE NARS Lip Lacquers. I love the texture, the pigmentation and the lasting power. My lips look and feel so luscious whenever I have any of these lacquers on. Butterfield 8 looks like a combination of milk chocolate and butterscotch, a rich medium brown with some reddish undertones. If you have highly pigmented lips like I do, this color won't be too much darker. It would look wonderful paired with golds, peacock teals and like colors on the eyes. Worn by itself it's lovely, or if it's too dark for your taste you can add a little light beige gloss to it for a gorgeous, kissable nude lip.

The only thing I don't really like about them is the packaging. Now, I don't mind so much that they're in a pot, I just wish the opening was a little larger to make it easier to apply with fingers. The price is a bit steep, but IMO it's a fair exchange for such a highly pigmented, long-lasting lip product. Also the smell might a little off-putting to some (very plastic-y), but I really don't care that much. Would definitely repurchase.

Butterfield 8 is gorgeous on my lips. Its such a versatile color. It looks good no matter what I'm wearing. I used to be frustrated with Nars lip lacqers because the jar they come in is kind of hard to carry in a small purse, but the lady at the mu counter gave me a little container that looks like the big size. I've had to buy it twice because friends "borrow" it, but some how it never gets returned.....

I really like these NARS lacquers! I may be weird, but I really don't mind the smell..It does smell a little plastic-y but its ok. Anyhow, this is a fantastic pinky/plum/brown. I think its a touch too brown/plum for my taste, but I like it none the less..great for a polished work look. I like how its thick but not overly sticky. I like how you can layer it on for more coverage if you want. The packaging is a little bulky and obnoxious, but I keep 3 different pots and a lip brush in my mini-MAC lippie satchel I got from the barbie collection which is perfect for storing these!

I love the brown with slight pink undertone for my NC25 (slightly lighter now in the winter) skin. It is VERY sticky and VERY smelly, but the color is perfect, so I will use it up and then look for a regular stick lipstick to dupe it. I RIS and am so happy I did. Looks great paired with Chanel Orchid Rose JC. ***Edit. I have not worn this b/c of it's terrible smell. NARS really needs to reformulate.

Great pinky-brown neutral pot gloss. Nice shine and moisturization. I took off one lippy because if you have longer nails you have to be very careful getting the product out (unless you use a lip brush, which I don't) because it will certainly get under your fingernail. I have found that the best way to do it for me is to PAT the gloss with a very, VERY light touch to get the color on the tip of my finger. Some people dig in and swirl, and for me that was a mistake. I use my ring finger because, as we all know from eye care, that's the "weakest" finger and able to apply the least pressure if a delicate touch is called for. This method enables me to get just the right amount of gloss, and remarkably, after putting it on my lips, I don't have any residue left on my fingertip to have to worry about getting rid of. There is a scent, as many have mentioned before, but it doesn't bother me. The consistency is quite sticky, which also doesn't bother me, but may bug other long-haired people who dislike gloss getting in their hair on a windy day. I would repurchase.

This is the most GORGEOUS color ever. So flattering!! If you can get past the horrific plastic taste/smell and the stickiness, this product is for you.

I had heard about these from someone, and thought I should give them a try...and WOW. Perfection. I've never seen such great wear in a lipstick, but this one is wonderful. The smell is funky, imo, but once you have this on, and are wearing it, it goes away, and you don't really notice it at all. It's really the perfect color, and well...the brand...well, it speaks for itself, everyone that knows about NARS knows that they are fantastic, and the price...yeah, it is high, but I mean, when it works so well for you, you actually don't mind forking over the money to pay for it!

This is a liquid lipstick in a pot, so don't think it's a lipgloss, because it's not. Its texture is thick and creamy, just like a lipstick's. The best way to apply it is using a lip brush, because using your fingertips is not very easy. I usually am not annoyed by make-up products' smells, but this is quite plastic-ky, and this can be another con. Btw, the pro is that this colour is amazing, I've been looking for this exact shade of brown rose for such a long time! It perfectly blends with the colour of my lips and instantly give me that lovely 'nude lips' look. I would definitely repurchase it!

This and Laura Mercier bare beige glace are probably the only two glosses I have purchased backups of. I love it. It is a gorgeous pinkish nude with a touch of brown that is just so flattering. I love the fragrance and it's amazing with a smoky eye.

When I first saw this at sephora I thought that it was too expensive. However, when I tried it on in the store I fell in love with the color. It's a nice chocolately brown and it looked so nice me. So of course I bought it. Mind you I already had two of these lip lacquers at home (sweet charity and chelsea girls.) I love all three of them their awesome. I was loking for somebody who didn't want it to give it to me but to avail. Anyway, I went to ebay today and found it cheap along with zou zou (one I've been wanting for a while) and bought them. Once butterfield is finished I'm going to open up that box and start using my new one. I hope that NARS never discountinues this because is really good and it stays on good. Unless you have a husband who likes to kiss you all the time. LOL

NW43 This is only my 2nd review because I only review products that I absolutely love or absolutely hate. I LOVE this lip gloss. HGHGHG nude gloss for my skin tone. This looks fabulous. I am wanting to wear it everyday. You will need a lip brush if you don't want to use your finger because it is thick and sticky. In love.

It makes me sad to see negative reviews of this product. Yes, it's only a lipgloss, but we've been through so much together...as a green-eyed, fair-skinned blonde, I frankly look like crap in it, but on almost everybody else, it's dreamy and neutral and lippy and lovely. It's brownish-mauve colour flatters light-olive, tan, and brown girls with light-to-medium complexions. The formula is smooth and non-sticky, but still has good staying power. A total kit staple.

Would I repurchase? Yes. Definitely. Because I have. One day, I couldn't find my little jar of Butterfield 8 and I freaked out. I had to go to Sephora as soon as possible to buy a new jar. And later, I found the original jar in the car-- it had fallen out of my purse and rolled under the seat. Aaaaah... all's well that ends well. I am now the proud owner of 2 jars of Butterfield 8 lip lacquer.

I'm not just a hysterical girl who loves her lip gloss. It's great product and a great color. Mocha brown with a lot of shine and staying power. I'm an Asian LLL, but I think it would be flattering to anyone. It is sticky, so don't wear it on a windy day. Maybe use a lip brush if you don't like getting your fingers sticky.

I hate gloss but I LOVE this stuff..I also hate saying a color is YLBB or MLBB because it's so totally overused, but this is just one of those colors where nothing else would fit ..This is such an incredible MLBB shade..I literally can't stop looking at my lips(I'm a hot b*tch:) The color itself is hard to describe(atleast for me) it's a mix of brown, mauve, maybe a bit of a purple or lavender undertone..It's my natural lip shade slightly deepened when applied though in the pot it's just a plain old brown..Not terribly sticky like gloss can be.$22 for a gloss??yes it's ridiculous but for this color,I'd pay it
