I've tried just about every single sulfate free shampoo on the market as I get my hair coloured a bright copper red and usually it starts fading after a week so was advised by my hair dresser that sulfate free was the way to go. Previously to using Essential repair, I had been forking out £25 on bumble and bumble colour max shampoo (and the same for the conditioner), which would last me just over a month as I have a lot of hair and need two washes to get it clean. I was also having the in-salon B&B colour max treatment and all 3 together did help it last to about 2.5 weeks but seemed to leave a film on my hair and it never felt clean, it also made my scalp really itchy. Anyway, I couldn't justify that amount of money any longer so did some research and thought I'd give Essential Repair a go - so glad I did!! This stuff is amazing!! Only needed a 10p size splodge to do all my hair in one wash and it left it feeling so soft I debated whether I needed a conditioner! The smell was fabulous and for the first time in weeks I didn't want to claw my scalp off cos of itching. I started using it for my first wash after newly colouring (and didn't have the bumble & bumble colour max treatment this time) and 3 weeks later my colour was still going strong and by the 4th week when I went to have it coloured again even my colourist was amazed at how little fade there was. Definitely my HG shampoo!! I now use it alongside the Essential Repair conditioner and the Essential Repair Color Max Spray and my hair is in the best condition it's ever been plus the colour stays true for much longer. It is pricey compared to drugstore shampoos but considering how long it lasts and how well it performs and comparing the price to the bumble & bumble range, I'm quite happy to pay that. Plus it's saved me the £16 I was paying for the bumble & bumble treatment every time my hair was coloured :)

Hair: fine, straight, shoulder length, colored blond but letting it grow out to my natural color dark blond.A couple years ago I found my hair stylist that had relocated 10 years ago and she introduced me to the purology line (thankfully). She said I should start with this one because my hair was over colored, dry, and damaged. I bought the sample sizes just to try and it was more then enough. The small bottles lasted me about 2 months...and I wash my hair everyday. On a return visit to my stylist, she said my hair was so much healthier! It wasn't breaking as much and was silkier. But she suggested to switch to the hydrating shampoo because this shampoo did it's job. I wouldn't use it everyday. Maybe once or twice a week to build up the proteins. While I was using this, I found it weight my hair down. Try the sample bottles of Pureology first to see which one works for you. Although Pureology is expensive ($30/bottle) a full size bottle lasts me 6-8 months! I only use a dime size amount and that's washing everyday!

I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of lather this shampoo produces with just a small quarter size amount in my palm. Sulfate free shampoos I've tried in the past have barely lathered or required too much product to do so. It feels very moisturizing and gentle too which I love. It smells fine, not strong and doesn't linger. I'm excited to see how and if my hair will improve by going sulfate free. It's an expensive product but since a little goes a long way it doesn't seem that bad to me.

After my hair had been processed 3 times to go blonde(which i am not anymore, i am back to brunette because i did not like being blonde)...my hair was very damaged. this helped a bit, but it made my hair feel greasy after about 12 hours and my hair also felt very coated. this was only after the first use.....so i dont know about this one....also felt sooo weird like gummy on my hair while in the shower...weird

They now give you 8.5 ounces for 27 dollars, instead of 10.1!!!!
I like to get more for my money, not less. I feel like they redesigned the bottles just to stick it a little more to the consumer. While it is a perfectly good shampoo, I can't justify the price increase in an already super expensive product.

This shampoo lives up to its name. As some reviewers mentioned, it does contain soy derived proteins. Because of this, if your hair is not damaged enough, you will not experience the strengthening benefits of the protein. If your hair is damaged this shampoo will work to weightlessly strengthen the hair. The sulfate free lather is strong enough to get a good clean feeling but not strong enough to strip color. Helped me repair my hair from chemical/thermal damage enough to actually grow it out for once.

I use this shampoo in conjunction with the Pureology Super Smooth line. While I love the Super Smooth shampoo and conditioner, I find that if used too often it can weigh down my long, curly hair too much. If I alternate the shampoo with this every couple of washes (3 or so), it gives my hair the perfect protein-mositure balance, which is vital for a good curl pattern in curly hair.
To people who are having issues with this shampoo and saying it is drying out their hair, I suggest you switch to a shampoo that has no protein and is full of moisturising ingredients (the Super Smooth line has very few if any proteins in it), and don't use this shampoo as often as you are using it. Protein-mositure balance is different for every hair, and some people need more protein and less moisture, etc.

Out of all of Pureologys lines this is my choice. Don't let the name scare you - the proteins are derived from soymilk so they're not your conventional proteins that build up and can over proteinize hair. It's got some good ing's to add strength and fortify hair. The scent is tropical and not strong or offensive, it's actually quite nice. It's sulfate free and can be used as a daily shampoo without harming your hair. If you're unsure of what Pureology shampoo is right for you, try this one first - it works on any hair type and is colour safe, IMO this is the most 'universal' shampoo Pureology has.

I went to a new salon to have my hair colored after moving. My new hair dresser recommended this shampoo and conditioner my blonde hair. I tried it - and at first, loved it! My hair felt strong, shiny, and styled easily. After several months and I have now switched back to my old hair dresser (she does a much better blonde) who noticed my hair was severely damaged. She had been doing my hair for several years prior, and knew it well. She asked if I was having troubles with my thyroid (I am not) or had switched to a shampoo with protein. Right then I googled the ingredients of this and read it in fact has several proteins. She continued to tell me that some people with fine hair or color treated hair can be very sensitive to proteins which adversely damage the hair, especially if used every day. If anyone is having problems with this shampoo - please switch. I have since gone back to the Kiehl's Sunflower Shampoo & Conditioner for color treated hair (protein free!) and things are starting to get much better!

UPDATE: After continual use for months it seemed to become less impressive. ORIGINAL POST: I have been using this shampoo for 3 weeks. It is the only thing that changed in my routine (just the shampoo) so any changes I see, I know is from the shampoo. I am really liking how soft (but not too soft), shiny and bouncy my fine wavy locks have been with this. I am still deciding if this is worth the money, but it is the best Pureology Shampoo I have tried (out of Hydrate, Volume, Smoothing). If anything changes long-term, I will note it here. And it is the best if not the top two 'poos I have used in years. It is uber concentrated so for my jaw length fine wavy locks, I have to stop myself from squeezing out too much-dime size is all I need. I mix it together/lather it up in my hands, then put on my hair and have tons of suds. This caught me off guard cuz it is a sulfate free shampoo and very gentle, but still suds. When they say this is concentrated, they are not kidding! The small bottle will probably last me at least 3 months (I am thinking 6) and I wash daily practically. Since I am so loyal to the Pureology Hydrate Conditioner, I really wanted to find a cheap shampoo, but this one might just be worth the money. It is definitely giving my hair more bounce to the ounce. :)

This is seriously the best shampoo I have ever used in my life.
I am the type of girl who is outraged at shampoo over more than six or seven dollars. I used this shampoo at someone's house while taking care of their dogs for two weeks, and my hair was literally transformed to that point that people started to comment on it! My hair is so soft, amazingly shiny, and looks incredibly healthy.
I never thought I'd justify buying a shampoo this expensive but it is TOTALLY worth it (coming from a huge penny pincher, this says something!).

Pureology has never let me down. I am a lisenced cosmetologist and I also work at a professional beauty supply store so I get to try all the products for cheaper than retail. I do really like this product. The Essential Repair line is all fabulous. Also, this will NOT over-proteinize the hair. You could use the entire Essential Repair line everyday and be fine. The protein found in this product will not cause breakage or dryness. It is different than other protein shampoos and conditioners and treatments. It's derived from soymilk and biotin whereas other protein treatments are synthetic or chemical. (I know this because we have Pureoology reps and educators educating us about their products).
The smell is wonderful. I personally think it smells tropical or beachy. I like to cocktail it with the hydrate line. So good! Love this and would recommend to anyone.

I used this product because it had no sulfate b/c i have keratin in my hair. Its alright..has a minty smell to it but felt like I really need a decent amount of product to work up a lather. I don't really care for the conditioner much.

I have very bleached, blonde hair that is in need of repair. I bought this today at Chatters (a Canadian retail chain in Western Canada) for 25% off at the advice of my favourite sales clerk at the store. I must admit that I really like this product; it left my hair very soft, and easy to comb (which is usually a problem for my hair). I would recommend this shampoo (and conditioner) for anyone that has dry, damaged hair that needs some TLC.

Looooove this shampoo. Really makes my colored hair soft, shiny, and healthy-looking, and helps keep my color from fading. It smells delicious too, a bit like lily of the valley, maybe? Some kind of soft spring scent. My hair loves the moisture and protein in this.

I love Pureology products and this shampoo is a wonderful addition to their product line. Note, this shampoo is for DAMAGED hair. If your hair is in good shape, I'd suggest looking into another shampoo from the Pureology line that meets your hairs needs. This contains protein and too much protein, especially when it isn't depleted in the first place due to abuse (i.e. color treating, chemical treatments, heat damage, ect) will make your hair dry and brittle. The first reviewer of this product seemed to have experienced the sort of drying effect I'm speaking of and this is probably due to the fact this shampoo is not suited for her hair type. Repair products are designed to fill in weakened areas in the hair shaft and fortify hair. For reference, my hair has been chemically straightened and I heat style it a few times per week (about every other day). I find products with protein in them help to strengthen my hair and reduce splitting (a negative side effect from the chemical straightening) when I use them in conjunction with moisturizing products. I don't use this shampoo daily as I worry about protein building up in my hair. I prefer to alternate this with Pureology Hydrate shampoo. If your hair has issues with splitting and breaking, I'd suggest trying this shampoo. It does a nice job when used for what it's intended for.

I have fine, thinning hair with high/lowlights. I always trend toward color protective volumizing shampoos. I would have never tried this had it not been recommended to me by my stylist.
All that to give background, and to say I LOVE THIS SHAMPOO. It leaves my hair feeling luxurious and soft. It makes all the difference in how my hair styles. Yes, it is pricey but a little goes a long way. I will definitely continue to purchase this product.

I don't normally like repairative shampoos, and I didn't like this one either. They always leave my hair feeling dry and I thought maybe this one wouldn't do that. I am a hairstylist and have tried many brands. I have fine hair but a lot of it and I get highlights and lowlights. I am always looking for a good gentle shampoo to preserve my lowlights because they fade fast and something to keep my hair in good condition. Repairative shampoos contain a high level of protein which are meant to strengthen the hair, not add softness, so it really irritates me when all these brands claim to make your hair soft and manageable when you use a strengthening shampoo. That will only happen if you use a good moisturizing conditioner with the strengthening shampoo, and I tried just that and this shampoo just left me with dry, fly away, unmanageable hair. It doesn't smell like the other Pureology shampoos. I can't really explain it. It almost smells like a plant and I didn't really care for it. The only good thing about this shampoo is it lathers well without using a lot of shampoo because it's so concentrated, but my hair even felt dry after rinsing it. If you have highlighted hair or color it often, i'd use the Pureology hydrate line or nano-works (it smells WONDERFUL).
