This is a palette that doesn't seem all that special, but is so versatile. I can use only 2 of the colors, or all 6, and it'll still look good. I got this for Habanera and it didn't disappoint. I also love that it can be used for a neutral look or a smokey look.

One thing special about Modern Love is that it doesn't contain any shades that overlaps with other 6-color Nars palettes. My favorite is Alhambra and Habanera. Alhambra is a shimmery beige that works great as a lid color for a daytime look. Habanera is a unique metallic purple gray, kind of like a shinier, darker Lhasa.

Gorgeous colors, great variety (lid, highlight, crease, liner), portable, compact, super blendable (I didn't have my brushes with me once and I managed to do all my eye makeup with my fingers, including highlighting and blending out the crease). I'm cool toned and I was a bit wary of jezebel (reddish bronze color) but it's actually one of my favorites in the whole palette and doesn't make me look bruised as I suspected it would. Overall this is an awesome value for money:

1. The shadows are the same size as MAC eyeshadows, and you get six, which in MAC you'd be paying $66-$84 and this palette cost me $55. I also think these shadows are far superior in quality to MAC, so it's a great value for money.
2. The value wouldn't be so much if I only liked two or three of the shadows but they're ALL gorgeous. Alhambra is a shimmery champagne highlight, Jezebel a red toned brown, India Song a shimmery medium brown, Tokyo a silver highlight, habanera is also one of my favorites it's a shimmery brown based plum, and FINALLY pandora which I'm SO glad they included because so many shadow palettes forget about dark smokey/liner colors it's a SUPER pigmented blackest black matte shadow that I love to use as a liner for day or in the outer corner for a smokey eye.

I went on a vacation recently and I took: tinted moisturizer, lipgloss, mascara, two eyeshadow brushes, and this palette. I've never had all my vacation makeup fit in such a small bag. Great, great buy.

Great palette. It has such a great variety of colours. At first I thought the colours didn't match each other at all and that it would be very hard to wear them together, but I was wrong. Even though the colours seem very different, you can combine them in so many beautiful ways. I especially like Jezebel. At first I thought that it would be very hard for me to wear this colour, since I am so pale and I have a lot of red and pink tones in my skin. However, India Song on the lid and Jezebel in the crease and Tokyo as an inner corner and brow highlight looks amazing on me. I have never received so many compliments on my eye make up as when I wore that combination. Tokyo is amazing as an inner corner highlight and it might be my favorite highlight in general. Pandora is a true matte black that transforms any day look in a night look. It is a very versatile palette, great for day and night and I would repurchase if I ever run out and if it would still be available at that time.

Edit: I still love this palette, however, I wouldn't repurchase it. Even though it is beautiful and very versatile, I hardly ever reach for it.

I love this palette! I got this as a gift but it was pretty expensive. However, I do think this is a great buy since it contains so many colors. Normally, palettes usually dont have a good variety of colors but this one contains all that you can ever need to create any look. It's good for neutral everyday looks and even better for creating dramatic smokey looks as well. I love the matte black since it's extremely pigmented. Good for both smokey eye and using as eyeliner (I love using the black as eyeliner!)

The color pay off for NARS eyeshadows are amazing I must say. Super pigmented and has very good staying power.

This is one of my favorite products to use. The packaging is adorable and super compact. I dont mind carrying this around in my purse since it is so small. I've been using this for almost 4 months now and I barely made a dent in the shadows. I think this will last me a long time.

Overall an amazing product and if you can still find it, definitely check it out!! The colors wont disappoint you.

This palette creates a great smokey eye, both cool toned and warm toned. I love Jezebel (reddish bronze) and Pandora (matte black) together for a warm smokey eye. My only complaint about this palette is that I wish there were one or two more lighter colors as lid colors. The two lighter colors are nice for highlights but it'd be nice to have some mid-tone colors. Other than that, the quality is great and the colors are gorgeous and rich.

I absolutely adore this palette.
Let me start off by saying that there are a lot more product in the palette than I thought it would. 1.5g per shade, so it's the same amount as a single mac e/s.
When I first discovered this palette, I was uber excited because it had the shades of the duos that I've been lemming for so long. This palette, imo, has the best of the duos... for example, the purple side of habanera, the brown side of india song, the black of pandora, and alhambra [which is perfect for any coloring].
I'm so glad that I didn't have to go out and spend $32 on a duo when I only liked one shade from it. With Modern love, I have the shades I love all in one, for a more affordable price.
I cannot rave enough about the palette.
I did a super neutral look today and must say that all the colors are very pigmented and soft. easy to blend and super flattering.
NARS is a brand that blows you away once you try it. It applies so much prettier than in pan, and is a very addicted brand. I'm lemming for more. ;D

I was so excited about getting this palette and was not disappointed! The initial problem was that the colours look so beautiful together that I didn't want to spoil the effect by using the palette, but I did :)
All the shadows are very pigmented and long-lasting- over a MAC paint pot my eyeshadow (applied at 6AM) was still looking decent by 11PM, after I'd been running around with it on all day and had even had a PE lesson at school that afternoon with about an hour of running around and press ups!
The palette is small and compact, and I can easily justify the price by saying that it is 6 pounds per eyeshadow- nearly half the price of a MAC shadow. Like other reviewers have said, I really think that you could bring just this palette and a couple of brushes away with you and still have a wide range of looks to chose from. Here are some of my favourite looks that I have tried:
-India Song on lid, Jezebel in crease, Alhambra as highlight- This produced a really pretty reddish brown smokey eye that I think would look incredible with blue eyes, and could be worn during the day or for a night out. You could probably switch this round as well, having Jezebel on lid and India Song in crease.
-Alhambra on lid, India Song in crease, Tokyo as highlight, Pandora as liner- A pretty, neutral day eye that you could amp up by using Pandora wet. I loved this look and will try this with Jezebel in the crease as well.
-Alhambra on lid, Habanera in crease, Tokyo as highlight, Pandora as liner- This also produced a really pretty day eye. I love Habanera for brown eyes, and am so happy it is in this palette as I don't like the mint green colour in the duo much.
-Habanera on lid, Pandora in crease, Tokyo as highlight- I haven't tried this yet but I think it would be pretty for a night out :)

These are just the looks I have thought of and I'm sure other people have thought of even more! This palette is so versatile, and I'm even considering getting a backup in case it runs out. I wasn't sure if I really needed it at first, but it is HG for me!

So I've wanted this palette since it came out for the Nordstrom Anniversary, but I resisted. I was saving for my trip to Germany at the time. But when I got back and two months later the sight of it had me drooling, I knew I had to have it.

With all that expectation I didn't think it could live up to it, but it did and I love. I think Jezebel is the prettiest shimmery color of all time and neutral never really blow me away or anything. I almost never buy palettes with black, because the black is usually shimmery and weak and how many not so dark shimmery blacks do you need? NARS made a good choice putting a matte black in there. It's super dark, so it will be great for travel when you want it to double as a liner.

The color combo is just on point. I got this palette and the Pleasures of Paris palette and i love both. I highly recommend them (ahem...so skip that Essential palette, ok =p).

FYI: These individual shadows are the same size as MAC individual shadows, but they are so much better quality. Smooth and pigmented on my NW43 skin.

Modern Love palette is a very versatile collection of eyeshadows! I attended a recent Nars event and asked the Nars MA to use this palette during my makeover. It can provide a daytime professional look for work, and also the darker colours can be used to give you a smokey eye look. The palette includes neutral shades, including Alhambra, Jezebel and India Song, and if you want to add more intensity there is Habanera, a deep plum, and Pandora, a black shade. The lightest shade in the Modern Love palette is Toyko, and is great to use on the brow bone as a highlighter colour. All the colours have worked well with my GGG, NC44, LSF#8 skintone and I make sure to use a good e/s base on my oily lids to help prevent fading and creasing. Nars has released several different eyeshadow palettes over the past few months, and this one is my favourite out of the bunch! The palette retails for $67.00 CDN.

I absolutely love this palette. I wanted it as soon as I saw pictures of it popping up online. It was Nordies exclusive for a bit and released on the NARS website a month later. It sold out within three days from all five Nordies around me. I had to get my SA to track it down for me and have it shipped to me, but it was all worth it in the end! This is hands down the most gorgeously pigmented and versatile palette I own. Right after I got it, I took it with me on a one week trip. It was the only eyeshadow that I brought with me and I was able to make so many different combos from this that I had a new look everyday! For color reference I'm NC30 now, I was probably closer to NC35 when I got this however. But it still looks just as fabulous now! If you get a chance to pick this up, I say go for it! You won't regret it.

My absolute favorite in this palette is Jezebel. It's perfect for a smokey daytime eye. The color pay-off is fabulous and the blendability is like butter, like MAC's Starflash shadows. Pandora is a perfect matte black. I haven't tried much of the other colors, but I can tell this should have been called the Essential Eye Palette because it's so versatile.
Update (9-10-09): Today I decided to try India Song, the dark brown color. I still think Jezebel is my favorite in this palette, as India Song is a bit too dark brown for my taste. It is however perfect for a smoky brown eye look or lining the eye for a simple but sexy daytime look. My second favorite in this palette after Jezebel is the Alhambra color. It is perfect for the lid and inner eye...it totally brightens up anywhere you put it.

I can't say enough about this palette. I could barely get my hands on it since it was sold out at Nordies 45 min away or so then finally they got some in and they were all gone the next day. Anyway, The shadows in this palette are so buttery and shimmery and great quality. I normally don't buy palettes with black in it since I really don't use black but I could not resist the other shadows. There are so many combos with this and I really don't need much else. I am a more neutral tone than pink or yellow and I feel these colors would suit ladies of both but more suitable for someone warmer or neutral. The two top colors are sort of coppery based but habanera-the deep plum and the white are cooler. It does have shimmer--but not glitter and I have worn these with and without primer and are great either way, however, I do get a little creasing w/o primer due to my slightly hooded eyes. The dark brown color goes with any of the shadows to "smoke it out" as well as would the black so it is great for day or evening looks although I wear this to work even with the brown. I have gotten many compliments thus far and if I could I definately would repurchase.

I'm an avid palette buyer, but I am often disappointed to find only a couple of wearable colors or a few that truly work together. I have to say I am totally blown away by this palette. This is one of the most well thought out palettes I have ever seen. The texture is great, the colors are to die for and every color has its purpose. I literary would not need much more than this palette when traveling, since the black doubles as a liner. Played up or down, the colors truly make my brown eyes pop. The true star in this is the plum color Habanera. This is my first time trying Nars e/s. I usually buy BB, LM, Lorac, but I will definitely keep my eye out for this brand from now on.

Usually the shades in the NARS palettes are missing one of the shades I want more, so I end up buying the duos. In this instance it contained all of the colours I'd been wanting but hadn't bought cause I wasn't sold on the companion shade. I could not resist this palette and I'm glad I didn't try. There isn't one shade that I don't like.

I do think that NARS shadows can be hit and miss (a few are chalky and with questionable pigmentation), but in this palette its all hits. Run to buy this (its LE in Australia, not sure about the rest of the world but its been out for two days and I got the second to last palette in my city).

If you look up the individual duos you'll get better descriptions than I can give but in summary this is a palette of very wearable, very versatile, nicely pigmented shadows with a beautiful finish.

Top left: Alhambra - metallic rose mist
Top middle: Jezebel - shimmering sable
Top right: India Song - shimmering walnut
Bottom Left: Tokyo - soft silver-white
Bottom Middle: Habanera - sparkling charcoal-plum
Bottom Right: Pandora - matte black

I don't often do product review, however, I had to review this. I love this palette. This is my first eyeshadow purshase from NARS and I am ready to spend $32 to buy more. The texture and color pay off is great. All the colors are usable, which is rare in a palette, especially on dark skin. If you are looking for a palette of wearable neutrals this is it.

I am loving this product more by every other day im amazed at how many looks these 6 colors can do, and the pigmentation is beautiful i dont even have to use any primer before using this even though i have reelie bad dark circles under my eye and my eye lid color is atleast 2 shades darkers than my face color the brown still shows up jst as beautifully :D and nor does it crease later in the day. I would definitely recommend buying this as its a good value for 6 extremely high quality eyeshadows.
