This is DEFINITELY one of the more favored of my NYX Mega Shines out of the 9 or so that I have. A sheer darkened rosy pink with strong brown undertones. There is a nice gold shimmer that isn't extreme (doesn't make the gloss look metallic or frosty), and underlying multicolored glitter particles. The NYX website describes the shade as a 'red bronze with slight gold shimmer,' and that I don't really see all that much, as this gloss is so sheer in color. I love pairing it with MAC's VGV lipstick, and though it is very similar in color to the MAC VGV Lipglass, Sponge Cake is a little on the watery side as far as formula and color pay-off are concerned.
Texture can get a little sticky after it's been on the lips for a while, which doesn't bother me, but none of the other NYX MegaShine creams I have are the slightest bit sticky. It seems to only be the ones with any kind of glitter particles in them that make the texture of the gloss sticky and tacky. The glitter in these glosses feel nonexistent at first, and the gloss itself feels nourishing and lightweight, but once the gloss settles after about an hour, I can feel the gritty particles on my lips, and the gloss feels a lot heavier and less comfortable to wear. That docked a point for me. The Luden's Cherry cough drop candy scent is inoffensive to me, I actually am quite indifferent to it, and I can get a bit sensitive to some smells. I can see how it would bother some people though, as sometimes it can linger on the lips for a bit. But overall I think I would repurchase this. It makes for a nice layering gloss, though I rarely wear it on its own, as it doesn't show up that well on my pigmented lips. It would show up much better on less pigmented lips. But for the price ($3.99 USD) and the amount of gloss you get (.53 oz), that's enough to win me over!

Sponge Cake is a bit like a bordeaux shimmer, a rosey red with a hint of brown. The tiny shimmer particles are rose, too.
The color is more of a neutral rose and I love the golden shimmer on me. It comes off a little bit more brown with my coloring. I love this color and all the NYX lip glosses I've tried.

** a review I posted on my blog**
Now just by looking at the swatches, the color is actually really pretty. It sits between a red/pink with a pinch of brown. It has little glitters, which I don't mind at all. This a shade I can honestly say you can get away using it alone if you are not in the mood of wearing a lipstick. If you are into the whole "barely there" look, this is the perfect lipgloss to purchase since it just enhances your lip color. it is not a "bright" lipgloss or as pinkish looking as the Ulta gloss I happened to review (look below). This is more muted, a perfect everyday color if you ask me. It does have glitters and I like it since it gives the illusion that your lips are plump (not that I need the help in that department). It still has the same "Nyx lipgloss" flavor regardless of lipgloss color. Wear time is pretty short. If you drink soda or anything for that matter you will need to reapply afterward, every time. But is it worth the $5.49? At the end that question can only be answered by you. If any cosmetic you purchase meets your expectations whether it is a $5.00 item or $50.00, then that purchase it worth it. It met mine. But I will hold off buying them unless they are on sale. That's me though. But I highly recommend it IF and only IF you are looking for a color that naturally enhances your lip color and don't mind the glitter.

I love this lipgloss! Its the perfect neutral gloss on me. I have no idea why anyone could say this is too glittery, I can barely detect any sparkle on the lips. The cherry candy scent is a little distracting at first, but it goes away fairly fast. All and all I love this lipgloss especially if I'm doning a look with purple eyeshadow.

Beautiful pinkened brown shade with lots of golden glitter. I don't feel the glitter on my lips, nor does it look like a disco ball. It's finely milled and looks very pretty! This particular gloss works well with my natural lip colour, also stunning when I pair it with just about any lipstick. It has a sweet cherry scent to it and very cute/sleek packaging. It has a doe-foot applicator which makes it easy to apply this gloss smoothly and evenly on the lips. This is a very comfortable gloss; no stickiness, not heavy, average lasting power. I love this gloss and will certainly be repurchasing.

This is my favorite lip gloss and shade. The color is beautiful and I don't find the sparkles overwhelming at all. I like the mild scent, packaging, price and formulation. Lasting power is average for a lip gloss. Very shiny and inexpensive too.
BTW, this color is very similar to Cosmo so you don't need both of them.

Way too much chunky glitter! Blech. This was a fairly pretty color despite all of the multi colored glitter that it contained. You can see the glitter in the tube but you have no idea how hefty it is until you apply it which is unfortunate. I really hate the smell of their lip glosses, they have this old, grape stale candy taste/smell to them. The color was a reddish-brown tint. It looked good on me, but I couldn't get past my lips looking like I was in middle school again.

Love this! I lost mine recently and I couldn't get to the store fast enough to get a replacement. The color just works on me and ends up being so darn flattering. It is a slightly warmer pink, and I agree with the descriptions of it being almost mauve, but not too purpley. I'm also giving the packing a 5 because I love the bow at the top of the applicator--it helps me find it fast in my cup o' glosses on my vanity.

Love this! I'm very fair and have always wanted a pink gloss that doesn't look garish or "pageant-y" against my coloring. This fits the bill. Just enough color to look "done" without looking like a clown. Has an ever so slight coral tone to it. Some people might find the cherry scent annoying, but I find that I notice it less and less the longer I have it on. Perfect for everyday wear! A+

This is my first NYX gloss, and I am hooked. The color is a beautiful nude with just a hint of pink. Just enough shimmer and not a bit sticky. Smells and tastes yummy, and I agree that it is reminiscent of Cherry Coke. I can't wait to get more! :)

This is a beautiful warm sandy-pink shade! There is shimmer in there, but it's not over the top at all. Goes perfectly with my bronzer! It's a nice deviation from my usual neutral pink lippies, and I agree that it's still a safe enough shade to wear to work.

The reviewer below who described this as a rosy brown is very accurate. It is too dark for my liking. But the NYX megashine glosses are my favorite out of any brand. The cherry flavor is my favorite!

natural colour with some shimmer, universally flattering, pigmented..
like all NYX glosses, SO CHEAP & such good quality <3 i love a bargain
(ive noticed the mega shine glosses have one of three different smells; grape hubba bubba, cherry coke, or a sweet mintyness) and i love them all :D

This is my first NYX lipgloss and I was really impressed by it. The packaging it too cute with the little bow on top. The pigmentation and shine is great and it's not too sticky. It kinda smells and tastes like cough syrup or something lol but it's okay. I really really like this and I want more of these glosses sooooo bad :o)

Sponge Cake is bright rosy-brown with golden glitter. It's a beautiful color, very flattering, but not easy to describe. I swatched it on my hand with other Mega Shine Glosses, and the color looks true, maybe a little lighter than in reality.
One of my favorites in this range.

My fave! It's a very flattering color, peachy pink with gold glitter/shimmer. It goes on sheer and adds color. Pleasant smell.

This was reccomended to me a long time ago by the lovely mu board lovlies, and i *fingally* got this. It's gorgeous! A fantastic everyday neutral, work safe kinda color. It's a mauve-y pinky rose-y color with lots of shimmer (but no frosty). It's very moisturizng, smells delish like angel food cake and NOT sticky. Like all the other previous reviewers who mentioned this is a dupe for the MAC VG gloss, I agree. However, I much rather prefer this to the MAC. This for some reason looks better on me than the MAC VG. I think because it's a little more sheer and somewhat more neutral/warmer toned. Overall I love this gloss and will re buy if I ever run out!! I love the cute packaging, not to mention you get a TON of product all for around $7 bucks or so. Also I like the applicator, it's like a doe foot, but flatter and wider making for easy and quick application.

This is a pretty color pink with tiny multi-colored sparkles. The color doesn't show up that good on me though due to pigmented lips. But this is nice for a simple everyday gloss. I do have to disagree with other reviewers, I find this to be on the sticky side. Compared to other glosses I have, this has decent staying power. Because for me, this gloss looks better in the tube than on my lips, I wouldn't buy it again.

I had to apply this stuff on my lips as I read all the positive reviews on here to make sure I wasn't crazy. Maybe it's because I have naturally pink lips. However, when I apply Sponge Cake on my lips it looks like just applied some clear chicken grease with glitter in it. I'm not impressed at all. Also, you have to keep applying this stuff almost every hour on the hour because it doesn't last. Don't waste your money.

One of my very favorite lipglosses ever. I LOVE the scent, it's like laffy taffy, so yummy. The color gives just the right amount of mauvey-pink color. It's not sticky, just the right consistency.
