I purchased the Heel Smoother Optimum from the Artemis Woman website. (I couldn't find it at Ulta or Target.) This is their rechargable unit with a stronger professional motor. I have never tried the battery operated versions, so I can not compare on its power. This one seems super powerful.
The Heel Smoother Optimum came with the charging unit, which holds 3 extra tips, and 4 interchangeable tips: two regular, one fine (the pointed tip) and one extra-coarse/Salon Pro (the large ball tip). So far, I've only used the regular and the fine/pointed tip. I haven't needed to use the Salon Pro tip yet - maybe further into the summer. The tips are made with aluminum oxide crystals, the same stuff (except for texture) that is in my facial microdermabrasion refining cream.
I chose this chargeable unit because I hate running out of batteries. I wanted a heel smoother that was gentle. My feet are pretty soft right now, but I do get some dry, rough areas - not enough to warrant a Ped Egg, grater or razor. Seeing how the Ped Egg is used, I was afraid of my tender feet getting hurt so I thought this would be a good alternative. I was right!
I've been using the fine tip around my toes on rough corners, dry cuticles and, although it's not mentioned in the user's manual, I do a little clean up of messy paint jobs (dried polish). The regular tip is great around my heel and on the bottom of my foot. Used on dry skin, it "whirs" off the rough areas in a fine puff of *gulp* skin dust. I just put a towel under my feet. I can do this on my bed while watching TV.
I am quite pleased with this purchase that arrived quickly after I ordered it online. I would recommend this to anyone who likes to use beauty gadgets. It does help with my at-home pedis so it's a keeper.
