Worst hair color Ive ever used. Its been a month since i dyed my hair and i still have dye coming out of my hair every time i wash. The color started fading within the next day. So now the front of my hair is black and the back is brown. Ugh! so embarrassing!
It was difficult to apply the dye also because it is so watery and yet sticky. The gloves that come with the dye are very low quality and my hands were stained for about 3 days. The bottles make it more difficult to mix since they are not see-through so its hard to see if product mixed thoroughly.
I contacted Revlon and they sent me a $5 coupon on the mail. Will use it for something else rather than dye.
The only plus of this brand is that it is the cheapest. i got 2 boxes for $5.

I have naturally blonde hair that I dye black. I was using this exclusively for awhile because it's so cheap, but I had to switch to something else. It just fades too damn quickly. It's a purple-based black that looks great at first, but it's honestly only jet black until the first shampo (and I do use a color-safe shampoo!). Then it fades to a brown-black. Hate that! Yeah, it's gentle, but not when you have to re-dye all of your hair every month because it won't stay black! Funny thing is, I've used the colorsilk in "soft black" and that stayed much blacker, so that I only had to touch up my roots. I wish I could keep using this because it's cheaper than everything else, but I just can't deal with it fading so fast.
Oh yeah, and as everyone else has mentioned, it takes forever to rinse out, but I have yet to find a black dye that doesn't. Just prepare to have purpley water pretty much every single time you wash your hair if you use this.

This is what I use to dye my roots. I think it has been over 5 years. It's super cheap, easy to use and comes with everything you need. I like the bottle, it helps with application.

My hair is naturally a dark-almost-black brown, but I've been dyeing it red brown for the past three years, often with L'Oreal Casting. My last foray with color was done professionally and was intended to be permanent, so there was a lot of bleaching involved.
It turned brassy on me in three months though, and so I decided to bring my hair back to black, and ideally darker than before. I wanted an inky, rich, almost-bluish black, and it was important for me to have that one color on my head.
I couldn't find any Nutrisse in Licorice, so I decided to go with what I thought was the next best thing: Revlon Colorsilk.
PROS:
1. The black is really really black. My mom who likes her her dark colors remarked that my hair is ridiculously black.
2. Instructions are fairly straightforward.
CONS:
1. This stuff is a nightmare to put on. Like most dyes, it turns your hair into glue upon application, which makes it hard to distribute. I smooshed the dye in six hair sections and then combed through it, and then used the comb to distribute more dye. My bathroom was a nightmare afterwards.
2. It takes FOREVER to rinse out. I'm not even kidding. I rinsed my hair for half an hour, conditioned twice (hoping that the conditioner would speed up the rinsing process), and I eventually gave up. Twenty minutes and two conditioning rounds in water was nearing clear, but didn't change after ten minutes of rinsing. I gave up.
3. It has trouble dyeing hair. I left the dye in my hair for 30 minutes (recommedned for super blonde people), thinking that it could bite through the bleach job my hairdresser did on me. After I dried my hair, it became obvious that yes, it darkened the brassy undertones, which is good, but it did not, in fact, turn my brownish hair into ink black. I've still got brown highlights running through my head, which in itself isn't a bad thing, but it isn't what I wanted.
I hate this product. I'll be going back to Bigen next time.

Edit 2/19/12: My most recent application has held up really well. Maybe it's the shampoo I've started using? (Infusium 23). I'm going to stick with this combination. Adding a lippie.
My hair is naturally dark brown with about 25% gray (that might be an optimistic estimate :) I've used Colorsilk in the natural/soft black many times. I prefer the results I get from Clairol Nice-N-Easy Natural Blue Black; however, I've been losing some hair recently following surgery so I chose Colorsilk again since the formula is ammonia-free.
Pros:
Initial color is nice and glossy, covers grays
Pretty gentle on the hair
I like the fragrance
Inexpensive
Cons:
Fades quickly to a brassy dark brown on me
Colorsilk is definitely worth a try. Fortunately it is gentle and cheap enough that you can re-color frequently. However, I really prefer a blue black (Colorsilk blue black is a bad formula unfortunately; see my old review). Since I just got my hairt chopped short I'll probably go back to Clairol and cross my fingers that the ammonia doesn't exacerbate my hair loss.

This is a horrible product! It's very watery and you have to be extremely careful while applying. The worst part was the rinse off. I stood in the shower for 45 minutes and there was still black dye coming out.I finally gave up, put in the conditioner thinking that would get the rest out, and as much came out during that rinse as during the first one. The color is correct - black - hard to screw that up and it was dirt cheap on sale in CVS (2 for $5.00), but not worth everything else. There are better black dyes out there and I'd pay extra to avoid that shower experience again!

I am a natural blonde and I recently went black with this product after reading the stellar reviews (and also after reading that Dita von Teese, also a natural blonde, likes Revlon dyes). While it did the trick, more or less, I have to say I wasn't thrilled with this product on the whole.
First, it stained my skin pretty badly. I say that having used other black dyes before and since, and not having the same issues with staining.
Second, my hair was bleeding dye for 3 to 4 weeks. I expected it for a few days, maybe even a week, but not quite as long as it did.
And finally, I feel like this black faded extremely fast. I had brassy reddish-brown spots showing after just about 4 to 5 weeks. I have since touched up my roots with the dreaded L'Oreal Feria (It seems to get terrible reviews here) in 20 Black Leather, and had a much better experience all around.

Love, Love, LOVE...this hairdye! I have used so many other products and this one is the best! I do enjoy Perfect10 but, it's so much more expensive then Revlon Colorsilk. Colorsilk is a steal! I use the #10 Black. It looks and feels great, after it has been applied and rinsed! Keep in mind it is a bit dark at first but, after a few days it that beautiful black. I use this dye once a month, thanks to my greys. It helps to renourish my hair and it makes it really soft. The smell isn't bad either! Mainly because it is ammonia-free. The conditioner is fantastic! As I said before, I love this product!

I have recently decided to color my hair a darker color and took a chance with this. I loved it! The color is rich and quite dark. My hair tends to not to grab color very easily so it was a plus for me. Also, the color does not wash out in a week or so like some other cheaper hair dyes.
Some issues I had with it was that is that I had to use 2 boxes. My hair hits just the top of my shoulders barely, but it is very thick. Also, I wish they put more condtioner in the box. I do like the condtioner, but 2 packs were barely enough for my hair. I would buy it again.

I love this dye; I have naturally dark brown almost black hair and this dye looks really natural on me and is very cheap. It looks good and actually keeps my hair soft and retains it's shine. I use this dye every 2 months, so it helps that it's only $3!

This is my favorite hair dye of all time. I've been dying my hair black since I was 11 years old and have bought many horrible boxes of black dye over the past decade, which usually end up looking too artificially blue or applying unevenly (I naturally have light brown hair). This dye applies completely evenly and is a beautiful natural black, not too blue or too brown (it does look a little blue the first two washes). It stays well and barely fades, and when it does, the color it fades to is a pretty brown-black. The best part is that it's dirt cheap, so I stock up and am able to recolor my my roots every 2-3 weeks (yeah, my hair either grows fast or I'm extremely anal). If you like this product, I suggest looking for Revlon coupons, stocking up at places like Target where it can be less than $3 a box or at Walgreens where they cellophane wrap two boxes together and sell them for $4-something. Also, I suggest going to a beauty supply store and picking up a box of rubber gloves since the ones that come with the dye are thin and plastic and much too large, and maybe some plastic clips for a more even, professional application. The accompanying packet of Revlon hair conditioner is surprisingly wonderful and I wish it were sold separately as its own product. I love the way it smells and leaves my hair incredibly soft and shiny. I always get compliments on how beautiful my hair color is and questions about who dyes it. People are always astounded when I tell them I do my hair at home for $3 a pop.

This is my absolute "go to" dye and color. I've been coloring my hair for over 20 years now. (Yes. THAT long). My natural color is actually blue/black, but the blue/black dye is just too one-dimensional. This color actually looks very natural. If I did not color my hair, my entire head would be white. I started to go grey/white at a young age and have been coloring since. I have to do a touch-up every two weeks as my hair is very coarse and pourous and the white--well, I don't want to look like a skunk! Besides, I've gone through phases which I've spent a small fortune at the salon and the salon color lasts the same as color silk. For that I will purchase my little $3.00 box of Color SilkThat said...
Over the course of the past 20 years, I've tried L'oreal and L'oreal fades in a week--I don't like it. I've tried Garnier, Don't like it. I've tried everything and have always switched between this Colorsilk and Clairol's Balsam Color--but I don't think Balsam color is on the market anymore. Regardless, I did read others' comments regarding the conditioner. The condiitioner is great, but only suffices a one-shot. I just deep condition with pantene or anything else that happens to be in the house. Also..the gloves are horrific--but I have fixed that dilemma by going to walmart and getting latex gloves--for the price of the color, I can deal with purchasing a box of gloves that'll last a year!
This is great stuff for the price.

This is probably my favorite black hair color. I stripped my hair and attempted to dye it burgundy and it ended up horribly, so I ran to CVS to pick up a box of black dye. I decided on Colorsilk since it was on sale and I remembered why I used to use the Blue/Black exclusively. Great color, looks natural, TONS of product but unfortunately not enough conditioner. That's the only downfall to me. I will continue to use this over and over.

I had my hair purple & a lot of it had faded to blonde so I decided I wanted to dye my hair jet black. I picked this up at walgreens for $2 & left it on for 45 min. & VOILA! Jet black hair! I was expecting a natural black but the color came out such a beautiful dark rich black. This product also made my hair soooo much softer and silkier, or was it the AMAZiNG conditioner? I highly recommend this product.(If your looking for a natural black simply leave the color on for 10 min. like it says on the box)

wow! i'm so glad i consulted the reviews on this before hitting the drugstore. i feel bad enough not going to a salon, but on top of that to use the cheapest dye in the store? i would never have tried it, were it not for the rave reviews. don't let the price fool ya - this is good stuff. the color is exactly what i want it to be, and it saturates my resistant roots very well. nothing's more unsightly than light roots on pitch black hair. when you dye your hair black, constant touch ups are a fact of life...at this price you don't mind. one very slight negative: you have to leave it on for 25 mins, as opposed to just 10.

This was a great product! I was expecting, from all the other reviews I had read, that it was going to be an extremely messy process, which wasn't COMPLETELY true.
PROS:
PERFECT color. Looks natural enough, except it reflects a LITTLE blue in some lights. My hair feels super soft and shiny, and smells amazing, thanks to the conditioner. The process was super easy, and the dying process took almost no time at all. SO cheap, and there's plenty to cover even long hair.
CONS:
It can stain little if you accidentally get some on your skin, a little rubbing/scrubbing is involved. It did not stain my tub, however, it took FOREVER to rinse out even the slightest bit clear. And the color still runs a little. The gloves are also cheap and huge, and I had to wear another set beneath them. The conditioner package was super small and did not cover all of my head.
Otherwise, the color is great (pitch black), and you just can't beat the price. Not sure how long the color will last though....

I have been using this product for about 6 or 7 years. I have dark brown hair but every now and then scattered throughout is a white blond single strand. I used to get made fun of in school because people said it looked like I had gray hair so I resorted to dying it. I love this dye. I have used herbal essences, garnier... just about every drugstore box dye but i always come back to this one. My hair is very thick and half way down my back. I use 2 boxes to dye mine. I think most people could get away with one. I use the color Brown Black or Black and they give me great results. It does look super black for the first few days but after that fades down some to look perfect. I also really like the conditioner that comes with it. It works awesome. I use both whole packs on my hair after I dye it to get it nice and soft.
The only complaints I have are 1.) The gloves that come with it suck so I use my own. and 2)It seriously takes forever to rinse out. Other than that it is wonderful and a lot more affordable than having to buy two boxes or 7-10$ dyes. I recommend this to anyone who wants to go darker.
The only thing I have to say about the other shades are that 1) if it says golden _____ like golden brown, golden blonde etc it will most definitely come out very orange or reddish in my experience and 2.) if you are trying to go lighter this will not do it. It is ammonia free and will not lift the color from your hair well. Always go to a salon if you are trying to go lighter. At least that is my experience. Hope this helps!

I decidedly to spontaneously dye my reddish dark brown hair and was happy to find this for $3 at my local pharmacy. My hair is very healthy and I don't use product or heat on my hair. Probably mostly because this was my first experience dying my hair, I found it to be a pretty messy process. It took me about 40 minutes to rinse out and I was horrified to find the ivory shower stained but it lightened with scrubbing and I suppose this is normal. My hair felt like straw during rinsing until I added the conditioner and used little portions at a time to kind of "shampoo" the dye out.
Once dry, my hair was soft and shiny. My red strands still show through and for a week the color kept rising out in the shower. I don't consider this to be bad; the color probably just didn't absorb very much since my hair is very healthy. The effect is a natural look.
Overall, I was pretty happy with the purchase. It didn't damage my hair and actually gave it more volume - my hair is very fine so I suppose the dye made each hair thicker. Also, the color is not bluish or reddish or purplish. It's a pure black. For $3 this was a great value.

I keep my hair black and so far, of all the blacks I've tried, this is the BEST one of all, hands down. Like another reviewer said, it looks like a natural black. The color is rich and gorgeous. The conditioner is the best on the planet and makes my hair feel like silk and shine like it never has before. I cannot say enough about this dye. It's great no matter which color, but the black is wonderful!

This is a great black if you want a natural "I was born with it" color. If you want blue-black or something inky jet black then you probably want to keep looking. I love ColorSilks its cheap and it works and it doesn't make my hair a dried out crunchy mess. The conditioner leaves my hair soft and the color holds as well as any other brand I've purchased. I am very fair with blue/green eyes...with my hair this color I get that Snow White look goin' on. I will say this, I've had my hair every color u can imagine but when my hair is THIS color, I get a lot more male compliments. Go figure...and I always thought BLONDES had all the fun, but I know better now! :-)
