I don't write reviews often because I'm not very often overly impressed with a product. However, my skin is very dry and I have recently been through a ridiculous time trying to find skincare that works. I want a line that doesn't perform animal testing, doesn't use harmful ingredients, and DOES provide tons of moisture for my parched skin (especially in winter). You'd think that'd be easy to find...surprisingly, it hasn't been. I used this in the past and it worked well. I thought it was "boring," though, so I moved on to something else. I tried some popular brands from places like Sephora, which burned my face and left dry patches and red blotches, which is unusual for me.
So, I ordered this again (from Vitacost, where it's under $10!). One wash and application of this, and my face feels...CALM. Moisturized. And, it doesn't look red. My one complaint is that it's in a pot, but we all know how to handle that by now, don't we?
Maybe this cream is boring, but it's simple to me at this point - it's very moisturizing, calms my face, doesn't break me out (though I'm not overly prone to that), and is the most reasonably priced skincare I've ever bought! I don't know why I ever strayed! I'll definitely buy again. :)

Ehhh. This worked alright, I guess. It does moisturize well, and I really didn't mind the scent so much, although like a lot of people have mentioned, it is very overwhelming. Based on everyone else's experiences, I only used this at night and only used a very small amount, and luckily I didn't get any of the massive breakouts some people seem to have had. The problem is just that after a couple months of using this, I get the sneaking suspicion that this is clogging my pores. Not in a major way, but on a couple of occasions where I didn't use this for a few days, my skin looked noticeably better. I'm not taking any chances and will not be repurchasing.

The first product I tried in this line of the Avalon Organic products was the Lavender Hydrating toner. I found it to be extremely hydrating, but my moisturizer at the time was not doing its job. The winter dries out my skin; it gets flaky, dry, itchy, and irritated during the winter, and without a good moisturizer my skin looks and feels horrible. Since I had such good luck with the hydrating toner, I decided to check out the Ultimate Moisture Cream.
First of all, the scent: delightful if you enjoy lavender. It is very relaxing, not too intense, and disappears shortly after application.
The cream itself is formulated without harsh ingredients, and it contains healthy oils that nourish and moisturize like none other. My skin is very dry, and so I am able to use it during the day and night, and it makes my skin so smooth.
Under makeup I don't even notice it. It is very lightweight and not super thick, despite its ingredients.
On their website I believe the price for this product is about $21, but I was able to purchase it at my local health food store for $18, which was a nice surprise.
As for the packaging: it comes in a nice little tub, and it is filled right to the top. No complaints!
I will definitely be sticking with this one! :)

I was in search of a natural product that would be my HG moisturizer. This is definitely not it. It did nothing to make my skin softer or to improve my complexion. I have sensitive/combination skin/slightly oily T-zone. I woke up with splotchy discoloration on my skin. I tried for weeks and I was never happy. Plus, Avalon definitely tends to stick every ingredient known to man into its products, giving me the idea that they just hope one will "stick". I switched to plain apricot kernel oil and my skin changed overnight. My skin is clearer than it's ever been, I start breaking out if I go a few days without the oil (who would've thought), my skin is softer and more plump than it has been in 10 years and my skin just has a glow. I'm getting compliments on my skin for the first time in a decade after using 1 ingredient I got at the grocery store for $6 for 8oz.
I tried the Lavender line and the Lift line and both just irritated my skin as many natural product lines do to me. I definitely have sensitive skin and personally cannot handle this entire list of ingredients on my face:
Organic lavandula angustifolia (lavender), chamomilla recutita (chamomile) and camellia sinensis (white tea) extracts (aqueous)(1), organic arnica montana extract(2), organic helianthus annuus (sunflower) oil(1), vegetable glycerin, glyceryl stearate, octyl palmitate, organic aloe barbadensis(1), lipo-filling complex (saccharomyces/xylinum, black tea ferment and hydroxyethylcellulose), dipotassium glycyrrhizinate (licorice root), tromethamine stearate, cetyl alcohol, glyceryl monolaurate, tocopherol and tocopherol acetate (vitamin E), organic prunus amygdalus (sweet almond) oil(3), cucumis sativus (cucumber), camellia sinensis (green tea), salix alba (willow bark) and calendula officinalis extracts, organic curcuma longa (turmeric) extract(1), hyaluronic acid, allantoin, panthenol (pro-vitamin B5), organic borago officinalis (borage) and simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) oils(1), dimethicone, oenothera biennis (evening primrose) oil, xanthan gum, ethylhexylglycerin, benzyl alcohol, phenoxyethanol, organic lavandula angustifolia (lavender) oil(4) and other essential oils.

I really liked this moisturizer, I love lavender and it didn't break me out. It is made for sensitive skin so it is gentle. For some reason, it burned my friend's skin when she used and she has oily skin but I have normal to dry, sensitive skin and it works amazing.

If you get spots, try this. It is a really good moisturiser but doesn't clog your pores or irritate your skin.

PROS: For a rich cream, not too heavy or oily. Reasonable price. Moisturizes deeply, but not harmful for my combination and sensitive skin.
CONS: I don't love the lavender scent. Kind of smells like wet dog/medicine. Some won't like that it comes in a jar (but I have clean hands when I apply, so I don't worry about that.)
ALTERNATES: They have a daily moisturizer which is lighter. Derma E's Hyaluronic Acid Night Cream.

I have very acne-prone skin that reacts to just about everything, so it's tough finding creams that work. However, I was using Retin-A for acne, so I needed a night cream to help deal with the resulting dry skin. I'm glad I tried this one. Beware that it is a little greasy - I wouldn't even try to use this during the day under makeup (besides the fact that there is no SPF). You only need very little product to cover your face, as the cream is really thick. The lavender scent is pretty strong when you first apply it, so if you don't like lavender avoid this product! It's a little greasy for summer use, but I will definitely come back to this in the fall.

I really like this cream. The smell is wonderful, I love anything natural & earthy, especially if it has lavender in it. It does feel really oily, probably because it has like 3 or 4 different kinds of plant oils in it. Probably not the best day cream, but perfect for night time. This stuff will either break you out or work miracles for your skin. I've used this on & off since 2005 & I've never noticed any major breakouts related to its use, so luckily it seems to be the latter for me. This moisturizes & heals my skin like no other. I'm a chronic skin picker, meaning that if I have a zit or even so much as a blackhead, I will squeeze the hell out of it till it is no more. So I'm always in need of a good, soothing night cream that will heal any red marks by morning & prevent dry scabs from forming. Well, this is it. I get this at my local health food store(Dodson's in Norman, OK) for $13 a jar. I think that's a very reasonable price cause you really do not need much of this at all & one jar will last you forever. I like the packaging too, its a sturdy green & purple plastic jar that I like to keep & reuse for storing little things(like body jewelry, lol).

I had heard that the moisturizer was very effective, and it somewhat was when I had used it since my face was drying out from the colder weather. However, either being a coincidence or do to the product, I had a breakout in the spots I used it in : /

This stuff is clogging the s*** out of my pores. I used it as a night moisturizer (a pea size amount) and woke up to lots of white heads on my face! I will be using the rest of this on my dry patches around my mouth area as I have combo skin, but will not be repurchasing for an over all night moisturizer.

This does not break me out at all. I have oily skin it does not make me extra oily. It is pretty light for a cream and litttle goes a long way. I use it at night and in the daytime. I simply use less in the morning. I love the ingredients and the natural lavendar smell. Not sure if I will need it in the warmer months but as for the colder months this stuff is great for my acne prone skin.

i do not like this. recently i became bored with my skin care line - burt's bees (i use the citrus scrub and the facial serum). since, i like avalon organics lavender shampoo so much and their lavender line gets very good reviews - i decided to buy their whole lavender line. well, this was my least favorite. maybe it is just too heavy for my skin - but i find this hard to believe because i use straight oil on my face and evening primrose night cream (thick oil)(bb) and it doesn't feel this heavy they soak in overnight anway. for me - this cream goes on light feeling and then - even when i used a tiny bit - just seems to make my face sweat oil and i have DRY skin - i can still feel a layer of it - no matter how many times i blotted it off afterwards, or rinsed my face with water it kept on feeling slimy and oily and like i had something on my face. i have decided that i much more prefer bb moisturizers - at least for me - they actually sink into my skin by morning and when i wet my skin afterwards they have disappeared and aren't lurking on the top of my skin feeling slimy. no i will not try this again.

Great cream! I am 25 and have combo/sensitive/acne-prone skin. This is a great night cream. I like that this contains anti-oxidants, so I feel like I am doing somehting good for my skin. It does leave a slight film on the face, which I like, but does not cause breakouts. When I wake up, my skin is soft and smooth and blemishes have started healing. The only downside is the packaging. I prefer tubes as oppsed to tubs since they are more sanitary. Otherwise, the product is wonderful!

This is a great cream, nicely moisturizing, great for dry skin. However, it stings my face like crazy! The lavender is exceptionally strong in this cream.

Maybe I'm weird (okay, probably I'm weird), but I don't like putting heavily-scented products on my face. This cream smells very heavily of lavender, which makes using it less pleasant for me. Once I get over that, though, it's a fine cream. I always use creams instead of lotion, night and day (I just use a lot less during the day), and this is very moisturizing, easily absorbed and pleasantly lightweight. Also, you get a huge jar of it for a little over ten bucks. Still, the scent is enough to make me keep looking for a moisturizer.

This cream is so useful I don't ever want to be without it. For any dry patch anywhere, my husband's elbows included, it soothes, softens and smells heavenly. This is one I forget about for a while, but always come back to.

EDIT: this was for the old, paraben containing formula. I do NOT like the new formula. It's not as moisturizing.
<<
i've tried really everything from the department store, specialty store, healthfood store and drugstore that can think of and of the probably hundreds of moisturizers i've tried, the above three are the oooonly things. this year, i may not need to go quite so moisturizing as the consistent use of a high ppd sunscreen (avene 50+ lait) and rx retinoids (taz is my fave) have changed my skin for the better. it's no longer dry, but for the first time in my life: normal. [gasp] anyway, if you're very very dry and/or using retinoids, this may be worth a shot. if i recall correctly, it's only about $13 at whole foods or other health food store. remember, moisturizer will *never* prevent lines (only retinoids and sunscreen can do that...and botox:)) but a great moisturizer can go a long way in plumping up the appearance of the skin, and keeping things nice and dewey and glowy.

I have been searching around for an excellent moisturizer that was reasonably priced. This one is it. I'm 35 and my one-time combo skin has now become much more dry and thirsty for a good moisturizer. I used to use Origin's Never Say Dry and really loved it but it was about $31 - $32 (US) and well I don't think that is an outrageous price but I thought I would look for something less expensive that works just as well. The Ultimate Moisture Cream has a nice lavender scent, it is heavy but not greasy and keeps your face nice and soft all day. I found it at both Whole Foods and The Vitamin Shoppe (in NJ) for around $14.00. Depending on your skin, you may want to go lighter during the summer months but for me, I don't mind wearing something heavier if it helps prevent any fine lines from forming. In fact, my mother was recently visiting me (I see her every few months as we live in different states) and she was staring at me and said, "what are you using on your face? You don't have a single wrinkle!" and well, I truly give credit to my facial moisturizers. I also use Burt's Bees Repair Serum with Attar of Rose, StriVectin and DDF Nourishing Eye Cream. I occasionally use Burt's Bee's Evening Primrose Overnight Cream. It's also great but just doesn't last long enough.
