I have replaced my Sedu flatiron every year for nine years, and got tired of spending big dollars, so I did some research and with a recommendation by a friend got this iron. I have to say for price...I really like this flatiron. It's a great value for the price. I like that I still have a little volume in my hair. I have very thick curly hair, and this does a nice job straightening. The plates are not as smooth as the Sedu iron, but I make sure to use adequate serum to protect my hair and help this iron slide through. I got this on sale for $49.99 at Sallys with two free GVP hair products of my choice. I highly recommend this if you don't want to spend too much on a flatiron. This gets super hot fast, and I love that it is so light weight. I can also get very close to my scalp without getting burned. I have it in pink. I am very happy with this flatiron. The Sedu works better at straightening for sure, but this is a nice change for me. I'm sure I will end up going back to a more highend flatiron when I feel like splurging and want stick straight hair in one swipe with 0 frizz. Update: Missing my Sedu because it really does a better job of straightening and hair looks straight morning until night and no frizz. With this iron my hair doesn't stay flawless until days end. Still a great value and a good backup flatiron, but not my holygrail flatiron.

I love this straightener, it is better than or just as good as a chi! Its a lot cheaper too. My hair is naturally fine though and has a very slight wave in it and this product always does a perfect job straightening it.

My boyfriend got me this straightener for Christmas, and at the time he bought it, it was on sale for about $50. It says it's comparable to a CHI, but since I've never owned one, I can't vouch for the authenticity in that.

The one I received is a metallic pink ceramic flat iron. The color is pink pastel, which is definitely word for word, but it includes glitter in it. It's very feminine and cute. It's sleek and light weight, which is a great improvement for me, since my last straightener was huge and bulky (it was a Remmington Wet 2 Straight straightener). It claims to eliminate frizz and create shiny, silky hair, and for the most part, this is true. It doesn't eliminate all frizz, but it does a good job at getting most of it. My hair is definitely shiny after using it. It's not exactly silky in texture, but it is softened. It has a curved plate designed to curl, straighten and flip. I wouldn't know how good it is for curling because I mainly use it just for straightening. What I love about how it straightens is that it manages to get my hair straight without leaving it flat. My last straightener killed the bits of volume I had in my hair (which isn't much to begin with because I have fine hair) and made my hair flat and pin-straight. With this GVP one from Sally's Beauty, I retain volume with straight hair. It has a 9 ft 360° swivel cord, which is really great. It has an adjustable temperature from 140°F to 450°F. Honestly, this is a great straightener, it's worth its price, and does most of what it claims to do.

The only cons I can find are really small things. I find it a bit too slow to heat up, but that is more likely due to me being picky and wanting something as quick as fast food service, lol. And like I've previously mentioned, the fact that it only eliminates most frizz, and not all. Otherwise, there is practically nothing wrong with this straightener. I absolutely love it.

(The only reason I will not buy this again is because it did not work for me the same way that it worked for some of my friends with different hair types)

Keep in mind this flat iron does have a swivel chord 8ft chord which is a plus.
AND you can adjust the heat settings.

I saw this at Sally's and it really caught my eye because I was in need of a new flat iron.
This item has REALLY GOOD ratings on the Sally's Beauty website.

Depending on your hair type, it MIGHT compare to a CHI....

However, consider that these plates are not completely smooth, they are a little gritty.

It works better when I use serums because my hair is course. Works well.

The first time I used this, I was some what disappointed, but if you use the right serums, and heat protectants for your hair type you could make it work quite well

If your hair is say.. Naturally straight, and fine, then this flat iron might work as well as a brand name flat iron.

But, in my opinion and from my experience, if you have naturally course dry hair like me, it doesn't quite compare.

I have tried a lot of flat irons, from Conair to Solia. I have also owned a CHI for several years now. My CHI is 2 inches and make my hair pin straight, which is not necessarily what I want to achieve at times. So I bought this to compare with my CHI and how good it is to my hair. Honestly, this is a much better product than CHI. I do not use the 420 degree temp althought my hair is pretty stuborn. I use it at 306 degrees and with one swipe, my hair is silky smooth: no curls, waive or frizz. By tilting my hand, my hair gets body and shine. I use this along with Paul Mitchell Straight works. I wash my hair twice a week. I dry my hair completely and then go over the small sections with this iron. The styling time is within 15 minutes. Retouching my hair takes seconds. My hair has a tendency to break but it does not with this iron. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I love this straightener. I have pretty wavy/curly hair and this straightens my hair and smooths the cuticle so there's no frizz. I straighten my long-ish bangs every day, but only straighten all of my hair on occasion. In either case it works really well!

I bought this product, even after reading mixed reviews, hoping that the actual product would prove them wrong. I paid about 60/70 dollars(i don't remember EXACTLY) for this product from a local Sally's store. A week later I returned the product extremely dissatisfied. My former 25 dollar straightener was a better deal than this one. My first problem is that the product snagged my hair. I assume this happens with most straighteners every once in a while, but it happened VERY often with this straightener. My hair would get caught in the plates and pulled out which is not a very fun experience and is damaging to hair. Second I wouldn't say that the straightening ability is all that great. It took me way longer to straighten my hair with this straightener than with any other. Another thing that scared me about this product is that when i took it out of the packaging there was a tag on it that said to wash your hands after use because the product contains LEAD. Not surprisingly this shocked me, that a company(especially in the U.S.) would knowingly distribute a product that you would have to wash your hands after because it contained lead. It also had another tag claiming the product could burn eyes. Very scary to say the least. I returned this product and got a different cheaper straightener from Target that I absolutely LOVE. It's the Conair Infiniti and it comes in cute colors too, the difference is there aren't reveiws saying that the color from the straightener will come off on your hands and hair like i have read for the GVP compare to CHI product. Do yourself a favor and do not buy this product, I would seriously recommend not doing so.

So my 2 month old CHI flat iron decided to die on me this morning..not really sure why, but it seems like the CHI has a reputation for randomly dying on its users. So I decided to purchase the GVP (limited heart-breaker tattoo version) today. I've used it once already and I am pleased with the results. Mind you, I am asian and my hair is pretty straight...but the GVP makes it PIN straight. I can't wait to see how it curls my hair!

In my opinion the GVP is not as great as the CHI. My CHI glided through my hair so smoothly, the GVP glides nicely through my hair as well but not as well as my CHI did. But at the sale price of $80 at my local Sally store it is a far better deal than the $179 dollar CHI that I bought at a local salon!! I bet the GVP will last more than 2 months too.....

I bought this after using a bulky, very cheap straightener for years. This one is so sleek and easy to handle in comparison. I bought this with Beyond the Zone - Turn up the Heat spray and it leaves my hair very soft, shiny, and straight. It also leaves the ends of my hair looking nice. The cord on this is super long too. My complaints about this is that sometimes hairs will get stuck in the plate and you end up yanking out a few hairs. Also, it is annoying that you can't tell exactly what temperature it is or when it is done heating up. I hope to use this straightener for years, I really like it!

I'm AA with relaxed, APL, color treated hair, so I am very careful about using heat appliances on my hair. I have some Remington flat irons with Teflon coating that I have been using for about 2 years, but I wanted something different.

I decided to try out the Sally's GVP model before paying the full price for Chi or FHI. They were $59.99 on sale. I did use a heat protectant spray: Turn Up the Heat, by Beyond the Zone.

Pros: Irons are sleek, easy to use, made my hair silky to the touch, can use them to curl, not bulky, easy to handle and use, long cord that does not get in the way

Cons: I can't tell what the heat setting is b/c of the way the heat adjuster dial is made; the directions tell you that the red light means that the iron is heating, but give no information about the blinking green light, I can't tell the exact temperature; some areas of my hair needed more that one pass to get straight

I used for the first time last night. I will use a few more times and update my review. Overall, I am pleased with my purchase. I chose no to buying again, b/c if they are any good I shouldn't have to.

Update 4/20: I returned these. It bothered me that I could not tell what the temp was.

I've only used this product once so far, but I will update this review next week.

I have the pink metallic one and its really cute and the cord is really long. I was using the Jilbere de Paris Tourmaline Iron and it's okay.

Likes: Is really smooth and gets really hot, but also doesn't create hot spots when the hair is suddenly a lot hotter than the surrounding hair. Makes my hair pretty smooth and soft, but not shiny and silky. Makes hair feel really healthy. Once was usually enough, but sometimes I needed to use it 2-3 on one peice of hair.

Dislikes: $50+ cost. Hair isn't silky, but that could be more because of the products I used to make it curly earlier. I've posted pics up here with before and after hair. I just couldn't resist the urge to see how it would straightenten scrunched hair

ETA 4/13/10: I still really like this. I don't love it, but it does its job and the straightening seems to last longer than it did with the Jilbere, but not as long as with the real Chi. I don't regret buying it :)

ETA 12/27/10: It started working intermittently in September and it's pretty much given up the ghost now after well under a year. Now I kind of regret buying it. I've gone back to the Jilbere de Paris and at least it heats up and straightens my hair despite its other problems.

I love this flat iron. It does do the job very well. I cannot compare it to a chi or anything else, but I can say that one pass does my hair, and it does not burn it all the way at 410 degrees. I think if you are looking for a great iron at a reasonable price you should get this one. I personally do not think that 60 dollars is a bad price for something that does what I want it to do.

I purchased this flat iron in May of 2009, after returning an ION flat iron.. which I was not impressed with at all, but that is a whole other review.

I really do like this iron.. it heats up quick, and the only issue with heat is if you do have it set too high, you hair will become fly-away and a static nightmare.. a much better alternative than heat damaged. It is incredible for doing flips due to the beveled edges and the plates are super tough.. they will not chip. I have used this on my daughters baby fine blonde hair and no problems.

my big gripe is the placement of the temperature control. It is a round dial and it moves freely.. so it is easy to change the temperature of the iron without knowing you did it. maybe if they came up with something to lock it in place or place it elsewhere then it would not be a concern. Which leads me to my next issue. I just finished packing up the flat iron and shipping it out to Texas ( I am in canada) to get a gift certificate in return as the heating elements are at a point where I can only get heat if I crank the temperature to near 400 degrees.. something I really don't feel like doing not only to the flat iron but to my hair. I have no idea if this is a common issue with most flat irons?? but i will buy a replacement of the same brand because I really do like it. It did take a few drops ( kittens like the cord apparently, usually I have it wrapped up but they always find it when they shouldn't..lol_) so maybe there was damage to the heating elements.

Otherwise a decent iron for those on a budget.. I will not be able to afford a babyliss or anything like that anytime soon.. so this will do for now. I did get the extended warranty ( after many run ins with crappy irons). I returned it before the first year is up and then the sallys coverage will start after the GVP warranty is up ( 1 year) )

my chi broke over thanksgiving break so i bought this today at sallys for 49.99 and got a great deal, i recieved a free stand and a free travel flat iron (which in not in love with). i got the black jeweled one as i think its very pretty. overall, the make of this seems to be nice and pretty sturdy, maybe alittle more flimsy than my chi. i have very thick curly course hair and have only been able to straighten with a chi. when i got it home, i plugged it in and noticed it heated almost immediately, so i turned the heat up to see how hot it would get, straightened just the bottom right side of my head, just below the ears and noticed the power light was no longer on. so i thought maybe my outlet had "tripped". but no, i guess its a short or something. im so disappointed because it did such a great job at straightening my hair. i tried plugs all over the house and at first the light would come on and then go right back off when moving it around doing my hair, and now it will not come on at all. im going to exhange this tomorrow morning in high high hopes that i get one that works. i got 6 years out of my chi and i planned on getting lots of use from this one. will update later once i have one that is working. just so sad that i got a lemon because i havent seen any bad bad reviews on this product.

*PRODUCT UPDATE*
i exchanged my broken gvp flat iron yesterday and used it once i got home and i LOVE LOVE LOVE it. i think it works better than my chi, maybe just because my chi was so old and not working as well, i dont know. all i know is that it took half the time it used to with my chi and it gets the job done right! my hair is very thick and curly and dry and hard to straighten. i also like the fact that with my chi i was never able to get stick straight hair, it had a LOT of volume to it, but with this i can get it very very straight or put the volume in it. the only thing i do not like so far is that the plates seem to be a little closer to the edge of the casing than on the chi so if you get it too close to an ear or something you might burn yourself. just be careful.

Note: pic of this in my gallery.
I picked this up at Sally Beauty, on sale for $50 - it was originally about $70. I have never owned an expensive iron, so I can't compare this to others. I have straight, coarse hair with some waves at the end which makes straightening very difficult.
This iron didn't seem to do the trick on my coarse hair.
The box states it compares to CHI (doubt that).
It is the 1" with dual ceramic heaters and adjustable dial temp up to 410 degrees F.
It also emits ionic reflectives which enhances shine.
It contains a 9 foot tangle-free swivel cord.
There is a small hoop for hanging if you desire to do so.
It has beveled edges which didn't snag my hair.
There is a one-year limited warranty. Sally's also offers an extended warranty for around $6.00 but I'm taking my chances on this one lasting more than a year.
I have the gem collection with silver & black designs with crystals.
There is no case for carrying, it just comes in a little box, but it is sturdy enough to keep and use if you need it.
A heat protective pouch would have been a nice addition.
RETURNED DUE TO THE FACT MY HAIR DIDN'T GET STRAIGHT ENOUGH WITH THIS.

I bought this last week at Sally's for 59.99.

i've previously owned:
remington 2" wet 2 straight [smelled burnt, damaged hair after long use]
revlon 1" [lasted long, didn't show any signs of wear/tare. but didnt straighten great, results didnt last]

i did so much research on what flat iron to get. i decided i wouldnt get the CHI because it didnt have temperature adjustments, and i wasnt going to spend the little amount of money i had on something without features that i could buy for less..

so i went to Sally's & bought the Power IQ flat iron.. it was heavy and was okay, btu then it sparked. so i returned it and finally got the GVP [ i was hesitant to get it because i'm on a budget.]

so far, its been the best straightener i've tried... leaves my hair actuallly feeling smooth and straight as opposed to straight and slightly damaged or dulll.
and it curls great too ! so far, no hair snagging.
* WILL UPDATE !

*UPDATE 12/31/09 - I'm still pretty happy with this. It hasn't broken and there have been no technical issues whatsoever. and i use it almost everyday. But I still wish it left my hair feeling more silkier or softer. I have yet to try the CHI but I still want to give the HAI or Solia a try..
