i love that this shampoo doesnt effect my hair color (i dye it red) and it definitely helps my itchy/flakey scalp. in the colder months i struggle with dandruff. its important to use this a few times before you make a final decision about the product. the first time i used it, my scalp was still itchy and i had some flaking. after a week of use, washing with this product only every other day, my scalp is much better. if your scalp is really a mess i would try denorex shampoo. when i was younger i had sebhorric dermititis where i had very very bad flaking to the point where i had some small bald pathes. denorex cured this problem for me. i would recommend jason for regular dandruff, but for a more severe case give denorex a try.

A great dandruff shampoo IF you have thick healthy hair. Gave me great, shiny curls and clearly is clarifying. People complain about scent, but once I used my Morrocain oil conditioner and treatment, could not smell a thing. If you have dry or fine hair - may not like it as much,

I developed scalp dermatitis about a month ago and tried to ease the annoying itch by switching to organic shampoo/conditioners with no effect. Then i happened to come across this on a website and decided to try it since it was organic (i have an organic obsession) and did not have coal in it...i hate the smell of coal tar shampoos. ugh.
Alot of people complain about the smell of this shampoo so i was prepared for the worst...however, i did not find the smell offensive at all. Its actually quite nice. For me, this shampoo was love at first wash...it calmed my scalp and eased the itch, and had a creamy thick lather. I found it a little dry so i followed up with my regular conditioner...one day later...wow...less itch and my hair is actually volumnised for some reason..it seems thicker and stronger, feels luxurious and smells great. No more limpness or dryness. wow..i'm in love. lol

I am so impressed with this product. I read among the Amazon reviews that it could help with "smelly scalp", a scalp infection, which I got after using hair extensions over a year ago. Nothing cured it, no amount of antibiotic soaps, natural tea trea and vinegar treatments, nizoral, t-gel or any other medicated shampoo.. I am so glad I tried this, the smell is gone, my hair has no build-up. The shampoo does not lather as it has no harsh ingredients, the oils make my hair so soft and well conditioned. After blow-drying my hair smells amazing, there seems to be absolutely no left-over sulphur smell at all. I can honestly say my hair is in the best condition it has ever been. If the "smelly scalp" condition never comes back, I will throw a party!! Will post an update review in a couple of months :)

First here is a little back round on my hair type. I have curly (3B), fine, waist length hair and either really bad build up or dandruff. I follow the Curly Girl method to an extent. I don't put parabens or sulfates (basically harsh chemicals) in my hair nor do I use any heat treatment or harsh dyes. This being said, one would think it would be fairly easy to keep my hair from build up and damage. I guess not.

I've tried plenty of "clarifying shampoos" such as Avalon Organics (dried my hair out and did not get rid of buildup) along with regular Tea Tree Shampoos (Tea tree is suppose to help with dandruff and itchiness) and everything in between. I dreaded the thought I might be headed back to Head n Shoulders, but then I read the reviews about Jason's dandruff relief treatment shampoo and thought I would give it a try.

I've only used this product twice so far. The first wash didn't do anything. I could still see dandruff after I washed (that's how bad it was), but the second wash (three days later) left my hair Beautiful. Usually when I use any sort of shampoo it strips my hair of my natural oils and I'm left with a frizzy mess even with hair product. It would take up to 3 days for my hair to look remotely good, but by that time I would need another wash. Jason's shampoo left my hair soft, bouncy, and with very little frizz plus no dandruff/buildup or residue! I personally, don't smell the sulfur or anything really and no one has commented that my hair smells. This product is my Head n Shoulders, but without all the harsh chemicals.

I used this shampoo when I first found out that I had seborrheic dermatitis. It worked for a while, but dried my hair out like a bone. Given my very thick, highly textured (4b curl) hair, super-dry is not an option so I discontinued jason's dandruff shampoo. Did my scalp improve? Yes - a bit, but not enough to sacrifice the rest of my hair.

my skin is soooo sensitive because of my rosacea + sebhorreic dermatitis so i have to be very careful with the products i use on my skin + hair. whenever i use shampoos with a lot of chemicals, i can never leave my hair down because if it touches my skin i cant stop itching!! i tried this shampoo because of the ingredients - msm + sulfur. itching gone! sometimes i use a very small pea sized amount as a face wash. helps with my seb derm.

YAYYYY! My scalp has always been flaky. I've tried all the drugstore brands, the fancy drugstore brands, men's hair shampoo, the whole salami to no avail. I thought it was buildup, so I tried clarifying shampoo, I thought it was dry scalp, so I tried moisturizing shampoo. You know the story. But after I blew dry my hair, I always had FLAKES. Until now.

I just bought this and used it this morning. It is kinda smelly, but it's not that bad to me. Guess what, no flakes!!!! I'm amazed. WOO HOO! I think it's the sulfur that does the trick (and makes it smelly).

I originally purchased a bottle for my husband through a seller on ebay who sold many natural products. My husband has a chronic itchy, sensitive, flaky scalp and we are always on the hunt for good haircare that helps his condition. The first bottle I bought was nothing short of a miracle, I noticed it had a potent herbal smell and a yellowish colour. My husband raved about it, it cleared his condition up and people even commented that his hair was growing back!! Excited by this I went on Ebay and purchased 6 more bottles. No mean feat as they were $10 USD each plus I paid over $40 for airmail from the USA here to Australia. I haven't seen Jason anywhere here so buying it online was my only option. After using another bottle my husband started complaining of an itchy red scalp again and said the shampoo "no longer works". My Mum who I gave a bottle to said the same thing!! Perplexed I checked the bottle, gone was the potent scent and I also noticed the colour had changed from yellowish to white! The ingredients listed on the sticker on the front are also quite different to what is listed in the actual ingredients list. I now have many useless bottles just sitting here.

I am wondering if Jason has changed formulation at any stage? If so the newer formulation is vastly inferior. PLEASE revert back to the original formula!!

I've been battling an itchy, flaky scalp since I was a kid. At least 15 years on and off. I've tried so many products over the years, ranging from supermarket brands, organic and natural shampoos, shampoo bars, expensive dandruff relief products - basically everything that has worked for other people hasn't worked on me. Selsun Gold treatment worked for a time, but I seem to have developed a tolerance to that.

Jason Dandruff Relief isn't available in Australia so I purchased it on Ebay . It is the only product that has almost completely cured my itchy scalp from the first wash. I am so impressed! 3 washes in and my scalp is itch-free for the first time in forever.

I would be giving this 5 stars if it weren't for the fact that the product hasn't actually gotten rid of my flakes, which is a shame since that's what it's designed to do first and foremost right? Thankfully, I am scratching so much less that the flakes aren't as noticeable on my clothes or in my hair.

I would recommend this to anyone who is suffering from an itchy scalp, especially those who have found that nothing else works. I find it doesn't lather all that well and I need to use a good amount of water when lathering, but that is a small price to pay for itch relief.

I really hope this stays available on the internet!

Update - one year later and this shampoo is still helping with my itchy scalp. Maybe not as much as it did when I first starting using it, but enough to make it the only product I will consider for relieving the itch. Unfortunately it does nothing for flakiness, and I need to use a different cream around my hairline to combat the most noticable flakes. It's worth it for the decrease in itchiness though.

Hi everyone,

I have a question, rather a comment about the product. I live in Toronto, Canada...where can I buy this product in stores? I don't want to pay shipping fees!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm reviewing this for my husband. After I read some negative comments on the main ingredient found in T-Gel (his old favorite) I wanted to find a more natural alternative for his dandruff. I found this at Whole Foods. He loves it. He says it makes his scalp "feel good" lol. I personally have never used it, but smelled it and do not care for the scent, at all. But I do notice it gets his hair squeaky clean, and no dandruff!

I was using over the counter Nizoral for my dandruff and itchy scalp but decided to try something more natural. I read about a natural ingredient called neem that was good for itchy scalp and that this shampoo had it.

I really like this shampoo. It keeps my dandruff and especially my itchy scalp under control as long as I use it on a regular basis. This shampoo is thick and doesn't get sudsy. To make it effective, I like to apply it on my scalp and leave it for about 30 minutes and then jump in the shower to rinse it and apply conditioner. I put the shampoo in a plastic squeeze bottle with a pointy tip (the same type of bottle that one would use for hair dye) and then apply it directly to my scalp (the pointy tip allows me to put a concentrated amount on my scalp.

The one negative is that the smell is pretty strong (it's from the sulfur). Even when I follow up with another scented shampoo and a conditioner and then dry my hair, I can still smelly it in my hair.

I bought this because the shampoo I usually use (Kersastase) costs $30 and I was looking for something cheaper. But I had to return it after 2 weeks.. It did nothing for my dandruff, my scalp was itching the same day I washed my hair. Will have to keep looking.

I wanted to review this product for the scent alone! I must be the only person who actually found the smell rather appealing, it has a very unique herbal fragrance with obvious tea tree overtones. Anyway, every drugstore dandruff shampoo I have tried has made the problem worse. I tried this last night for the first time and my scalp definitely feels less itchy, but I still have some flakes. Obviously it will take a couple of applications so I am not worried. I love the tingly sensation, and it really made my scalp feel nice. Will buy again!

I have only used this shampoo twice but let me just say that it is Amazing!!! The first time i used it my scalp felt so great. I didnt wash my hair till 5 days later and that was only because it was looking frizzy; usually it's because my scalp feels itchy. I'm sure if i had flat ironed my hair i could have gone a week or longer. The shampoo has some great ingredients in it including: neem, tea tree, rosemary and msm :) Honestly this shampoo works a lot better than head and shoulers, or any other danduff shampoo i have used. I would totally recommend it, and if my opinion changes i will come back and update.

As a dandruff victim for many years, I have tried numerous anti-dandruff shampoos, before stumbling upon this one at my local GNC. I figured, "What the heck, I've tried everything else, what could possibly go wrong if I tried another?". I'll tell you what could go wrong: absolutely nothing! I love this shampoo! It works on my dandruff like nothing else has. Sure, the smell is off-putting, but it's a small price to pay for a flake free scalp. Besides, it gives me the chance to go shopping for yummy smelling conditioners!

Lifetime sufferer with dandruff and itchy scalp. It has really been bad recently. Chewcked with the Hair Board and this was recommended. Went right to Whole Foods and purchased. It really works to quell the itchies and to improve the condition of my scalp. Took off one point for the sulphur smell. However, I recognize that the sulphur is what makes the product work. It does leave my hair a little roughed up. I use the Frederic Fekkai gloss creme to counteract the roughness.

I keep raving about this shampoo to everyone who talks about having any itchy scalp. I absolutely, hands-down LOVE this product!!! It works so freaking well for me (I've been using this for over a year now) that I don't even, once, consider trying a different dandruff shampoo. Now, I don't have actual dandruff so I wouldn't be able to say how it works for dandruff, but I do have itchy scalp problems and this shampoo absolutely kills my itchiness.
The best way to use this shampoo is to use for every wash for a couple of weeks straight, then after the second week, use this once a week for maintenance. Rub/massage this into your scalp for a couple of minutes and leave on for a few minutes while you do something else in the shower (when you start to feel the tingly sensation, you'll know that it is working) and then rinse and use conditioner if you want to. I've been doing this for about a year and it keeps the itchies away very well!!! Absolutely no complaints here!
Now this is not a full-on shampoo and does not lather, but it really does work and you don't need to use a "normal" shampoo afterwards because it does a really good job of cleaning your hair; I've never had to use one afterwards.
It moisturizes my hair very well and leaves a very nice shine (the product contains Neem oil which is really moisturizing to the scalp and hair). It does not strip your hair at all and also claims to be "color-safe" but I wouldn't know cause I don't color my hair. I also LOVE the tingly feeling that it leaves on my scalp.
The smell does not bother me in any way. I actually really like the nice natural herby-type scent that this one has. I am a natural outdoorsy type person that can't stand the smells of the fruity-floral crap that the drugstore products have.
This is DEFINITELY my one of my ultimate H-O-L-Y G-R-A-I-L-S!!! I would not consider using another product for itchiness (and no, I'm not affiliated with the JASON Co. in anyway except for being a really freaking HAPPY and satsified customer). I really hope they don't discontinue this product because I really don't want to start searching for another product that I know will not even compare to the greatness of this one! You can pick this up in any health food store and I also found this in my local Harris Teeter.
If you have problems with your scalp, definitely give this product a chance...I'm so glad that I did! :D

OK, it's only been an hour or so since I washed my hair, but my itchy scalp already feels better. If it starts to itch again, I'll come back and edit! This shampoo reminds me of the old Fostex shampoo that came in a jar -- it was the greatest stuff ever for itchy scalp, and this stuff seems to be doing the same great job. I don't have dandruff, so I can't speak to its effectiveness for that. It has a slightly strange smell -- not unpleasant, exactly, but somewhat 'medicine-y,' and it's very thick, so you don't have to use a lot of it to work up a good lather. I got 12 oz. for $8.99 at Whole Foods, which, if the bottle lasts as long as I think it will, is a screaming deal. Right now, I'm giving it five stars for the relief I'm getting from the itching. If it stops working, I'll be back...
