I reeeeallly wanted to like this color.
In the bottle, it looked like the royal purple version of Aruba Blue (one of my favorites -- not just in the Essie line, but of all time). Unfortunately, the shimmer in this one is less dense than in Aruba Blue, so the coverage isn't as good and the color doesn't have as much impact.
Shimmer nail polishes are usually impossible to apply unevenly, but this one was almost impossible to apply evenly (in two coats that is). Since the shimmer isn't very dense, it applies somewhat like a jelly, which is always awkward. Once on, it's a fairly nice color -- but not earth-shattering, like it would be if it lived up to its bottle color.

LOOOOVE this purple and I am really not into shimmery colors...this is my HG deep purple and it pops on most skin tones

Against my very pale skin it just looked too dark and cold. I hated it and gave it away.

Beautiful deep purple nail varnish with some pink, red and blue micro shimmer, one of my Essie's favourites. Two coats give opaque colour that with a topcoat lasts on me without any chipping for 5 days. The colour is actually amazing - almost foil like !
I bought it when my favourite purple from Inglot (no177) got a bit gloopy but it is not an exact dupe (Inglot has more red to it in the micro glitter as well as in the base colour also appears darker on nails than Essie).
I am very pale and my skintone has yellow undertones so on my hands, with short neat nails 'Sexy Divide' makes a striking statement that gets loads of compliments.
The formula and a new wide brush make the application easy and flawless in just two coats. Actually some of my nails when applied with a steady hand had a good, non streaky look with just one coat but a second coat gave them a real depth of colour.
The only minor fault imho is that the colour requires a very glossy topcoat applied every two days as it can go a bit too flat for me and I like my nails to be very very glossy.

This is a moody deep, dark purple. I prefer cream polishes so when I got the bottle in the mail, I was a bit skeptical because it's got a lot more shimmer in it than expected. However, on the nail it is elegant and refined. It darkens up a bit but I think that's what lends to its sophistication. If you love purple, I think Sexy Divide is pretty damn perfect.

Just a beeeeeeeeeeet too dark for me, but I'm super pale. A slinky, shimmery dark purple that looks good with 3 coats. My roommate has OPI Ink, but I got this as a lighter alternative. Definitely recommended!

I like the color in the bottle but it falls short on my nails because....
It goes black against my dark skin. It did the same thing as OPI Ink just dark purple that looks almost black on me. I prefer OPI Grape Set Match for my dark purple nail polish because you can still tell it's purple.
Sexy Divide applied nicely and I can totally get how people with fair skin can like this but for those with dark skin steer clear of this purple.

This polish is a shimmery Crown Royal purple, which looks great in the fall and winter. I feel like its a little dark for summertime but when September rolls around I will definitely be putting it back into my np rotation. The formula is great - I would classify it as a 'good' Essie (non-streaky with great staying power). The only reason I didn't rate this a 5 is that even though the color is gorgeous and well done, I feel like I've have seen it before. I guess that is a hazard of being a serious np collector lol. But I would still rec. this color if you are looking for a cool toned dark purple as it really is lovely :)

Gorgeous rich purple with lots of gloss and depth to it, a very grape-y purple that reminds me of a grape popsicle - great coverage and opacity, too. One of my very favorite pedicure polishes.

In the bottle this appeared a dark metallic purple, with slight shimmers. On my nails (and in contrast with my pale skin) it's a dark shimmerless purple. In some light it looks black! But not exactly in a terrible way.
At two coats it was almost opaque for me, but a few patches weren't looking too well so I settled for three. At three it looked great, dried decently fast too! In efforts to make it a little more eye catching, I used a top coat of Gone Wishin' by Nicole by OPI. It has a clear base and is packed with purple shimmers dominating over the random blue ones. The outcome was very pretty, yet still subtle.
My only complaint really was that on my toes it could be a bit too dark looking sometimes without any sparkles, but on those with darker skin it is probably prettier! I still think I would repurchase, as I don't have any purples similar to this so far!

This color is gorgeous in the bottle, but be warned the shimmer does not appear once applied. It is still a great deep purple with great Essie quality.

This is first Essie Nail polish and it's great. The color is incredible. A gorgeous true purple, just looking at it makes you want to so "Wow!" Applied opaque in two coats and the formula went on smooth.
The Essie brush isn't one of my favorites, but it didn't give me any problems.

this is good stuff! Its like having the purple flash from OPI Ink..but all the time, lol. When I get this as a mani, people always ask me what color nail polish I'm wearing. I never get tired of this!

I got it as a Christmas present and it is such a pretty color! I love deep shimmery, not sparkly, colors during fall and winter, especially blues and purples. I love how it has dimension to it because it has pinks and blues and purples in the glitter. It applies nice and smooth and is one of the better polishes I've tried. I highly recommend this, but I might not buy again. I have a lot of polishes to try and I want to see if another polish can exceed this. It's a bit hard to track down polishes other than red and pink in salons where I live, but I will definitely look for this if I can't find one that betters this.
I'm still not the biggest fan of the brush though. I've had to wipe off the polish because the brush is hard to handle and the dark polish is too noticeable when I mess up. I'll keep practicing.

In the bottle, this is a bright, buy deeply-pigmented purple with shimmer (there is no plum or brown tones in it at all). When I first used it (two coats on my toes), it was evening and in the artificial light they looked black – which disappointed me. My husband suggested to wait and see the color under natural daylight. So the next morning I was pleasantly surprised to see the intense purple I was hoping for, much truer to the bottle’s color. I would buy this again.

OMG! Obsessed with Sexy Divide! By far one of my all time faves from Essie! It's such a sexy, rich, color that's perfect for the fall (even though I love to wear it during any season). I have yet to get a mani with this color & not be complimented and asked for its name. Gorgeous!

I love this color! I've been on the hunt for it for about a year since I had my nails done with it at a nail salon, but forgot to ask the color. It's a beautiful, dark, vampy purple. It only takes 2 coats and voila! Definitely would buy it again if I had to!

I want to love this product but it always falls short. It's beautiful in the bottle with a nice shimmery purple but after less than a day of wear the shine dulls even with top coat. Don't get me wrong it's still a nice fun color but different from what you see in the bottle.
I just bought Nars (limited edition) Purple Rain, this is beyond gorgeous, I'm going on 3 days with no chips and the shimmer and shine is still there!
