This serum is a miracle! I went to the Chantecaille counter to buy my foundation and I was having a particularly bad skin day so the sales lady used this first before putting on the foundation. I liked it right away because it was not greasy on my oily skin and absorbed right away. It left a matte finish but not too matte so that I look dry. Anyway I really liked it but didn't think too much of it until I got home. When I took off my makeup I couldn't believe it, my skin was so much better! My breakouts and the redness and unevenness they caused was faded so much! Plus my skin felt so soft and smooth. Love it! I will try the one with arbutin too for my freckles.

Love this serum. It sinks right in and plumps up my skin getting rid of any dryness yet doesn't feel like I've put anything on my face. It looks and feels the way it does right after I've washed it, clean and fresh. I have reactive skin but this hasn't bothered it. I use this only in the daytime and usually mix it half and half with their Just Skin tinted moisturiser to give my face a wash of colour which is virtually undetectable but improves the look of my skin 100%. I guess it's the same idea as the Giorgio Armani Face Fabric only natural. The added colour gives my face a subtle glow and covers up any uneveness and the Vital Essence makes it look....well... 'younger' is the word I guess Im looking for. Because I need to use such a small amount of this serum it lasts a long time so what seemed an expensive purchase ended up to be a bargain. I can't use some of the Chantecaille products but this one is a winner.

Caused burning sensation, possibly attributable to its concentrated botanical element. Sensitive skins beware.

This is a wonderful serum. It sinks in right away and has no greasy/sticky feeling. i love the packaging as it helps to get every inch of the product out. I have found that this used with the Flower Harmoizing Cream has really improved my skin's clarity. My skin is significantly smoother, softer, radiant and brigther. My scars have also faded significantly. What is even better is the fact that its 95% natural ingredients vs. chemical, plus it does not test on animals. I love the fact that i can use this as my eye cream as well. It makes my routine much simpler and quicker. Not to mention, I can feel it working too. I am totally sold on this serum and this cream. Definite repurchase for both. I wll try the Flower Fluid for the summer months to be used on top of this serum because the cream can be sticky and hence I prefer using it only during winter months and at night.Since I use the serum twice a day, i use it up pretty quickly but will buy again.

I have been using this for almost a year. It is expensive. I had never used a serum before, and I think it made a difference in my skin although I had nothing to compare to. It smells really nice and looks really pretty. It's a light gel, so I felt like I needed quite a bit to get full coverage, like 1.5-2 pumps per use.

My skin is really dry and it didn't really help with hydrating so much so I am trying something new now.

As a serum for both face and eyes, it is not pricy! However, it goes really fast! It does make my skin soft and brilliant after I finished 2 bottles.

This product is truly great. It has a nice broad spectrum of antioxidants and marine extracts which are quire hard to find in natural products. Its a great product to add your regime that won't overcomplicate or throw anything out of order. As a guy, this texture is perfect for my slightly oily skin and the smell is very subtle. My Chantecaille regime is: Rice & Geranium Cleanser, Retinol Intense and a TINY amount of Flower Harmonizing Cream to set it all in. I've been a long La Prairie, Paulas Choice and Perricone buyer but this is has been the most pleasant and effective product I've used.

I was given a very generous sample pot of this by a Mecca sales girl. This made my skin look and feel AMAZING and it smells absolutely beautiful. I was so scared to look up the price online. (I was right to be scared, it's $150 in Australia! YIKES!)

I probably won't end up buying this unless I suddenly strike gold, but it's an absolutely beautiful product (I love Chantecaille and all their products are vegan) so I put 'Yes' to purchase again - Never say never.

Today marks my one-month anniversary of using this product, which I thought would be a good time to review it.
I should note that I am no longer using this product. I will list why but first I want talk about the positive.
Why this serum? I have been curious about this serum for a long time. My skin is very reactive/sensitive and I've noticed lines on my face from dehydration. I had heard this was an excellent product for that, and I was also intrigued by the Vitamin C within, thinking it would help brighten my complexion. I do on occasion get breakouts, so I thought this would help with that too. It is targeted to those with an oily skin, but it says it is good for sensitive skin as well.
The price: Might as well get this part over with, this serum is painfully expensive-I paid $100. I rarely pay more than 40$ USD for skincare, so this hurt. But my curiosity got the better of me and I just had to try it.
Packaging: The packaging is among the best I've seen. It has an excellent pump system that never leaks or cracks, delivering a pea-sized amount each time.
It's also very pretty-the vitamin C within the clear gel gives it a lacy look that I really like seeing on the counter. The acrylic container has a nice weight to it that stays put-no teetering on its base knocking over.
Performance: The consistency is a gel, but on the face it feels like water, with no stickiness as with some gel moisturizers. It doesn't take much because a little goes a long way. I did not notice any stinging in my case, and my skin gulped this down, allowing me to put my normal moisturizer on top (Atopalm MLE cream). The smell is so nice too, just like roses.
After one month I have noticed that the lines on my forehead, especially in between my brows, have gone down due to the hydration factor. I have not had any breakouts while using this. As for redness, it did seem like my face did not get as "inflamed" as it normally does, but now on to why I've stopped using Vital Essence.
The fall: This product has increased the pigmentation on my face, especially under my eyes and my forehead. This is the only "new" product I have been using over the last few months, so I'm pretty sure it is the serum.
It's my own fault really, Vitamin C has been known to not be nice to those of us with very sensitive skin as it can be too strong, but I thought I would be okay. Which I guess raises the question as to why this is targeted to sensitive skin.. but in the end it's all about your own judgment of what you think your skin can handle. My skin is hyper sensitive and unfortunately I overestimated what was okay (as I usually do), and am now peppered with new pigment. :(

Having said that, I do think this is a lovely product for many other skin types. Hence why I decided to give this three lippies instead of two.

I guess the plus side is my mother was delighted when I presented her with this expensive serum, her skin is bulletproof compared to mine and she loves it. :) However it is too soon to tell if it's improving her skin.

Thanks for reading xx

This stuff is good !
i use it in conjunction with my dermalogica skin resurfacing clenser. i feel that , this combination has been working well for me for the past 2 weeks now and it's probably that time of the month now but i see no sign of any blemish and the past ones are clearing up !
my skin seems to have a sheen ... in a nice kind of glowy way...the texture is smooth ... if i use jojoba oil on top it's just baby bum soft !!! i feel like i need to use less and less foundation and that's my ultimate skincare goal (SUNSCREEN AND GO =) )

i think it's worth saving up for . just get rid of your past creams and lotions...stick to this and i think the results will show !

pros
soothing and calming for skin
moisturising enough for oily skin
works as a beautiful primer
under eye makeup goes on much smoother

cons
expensive but worth saving up for !!

Amazing.
I use it under my eyes, partly because it's blood expensive for me but sooo worth it. I can barely detect the smell but it's very subtle and does not linger at all. This product is perfect, absorbs imediately leaving soft and really hydrated skin. I have combo skin with slightly oily forehead and I used it on this area and I know it's great with controling the oil. The issue I have is that 85% of product I buy dissapoint me right away but not this. For me the only con is the price, but what the hell, you live once .

Great product and very reasonalbly priced for a serum. I love that you can use it on the eyes and I layer this under my eyecream twice a day. This serum is mosturizing without being greasy what so ever.

Sadly this is very good. I am not a fan of serums. To me it is an extra step. With my sensitive, prematurely-aging skin my friend suggested this. I will never ever go without this. I have a tendency try to "find something better, find something more economical". No thanks, won't be doing that. This is the best and you really do get what you pay for.

Hmmmm. It's ok. I love the smell and there are LOADS of really good ingredients but also quite a few bad. why put parabens to all these amazing antioxidants and healthy stuff? Also, i noticed (i have a combination skin), that if i use it in the morning under my mineral foundation my skin gets shiny faster during the day... i still use it during the day cos i love the way it quickly sinks in but prefer using it in the evening... It' good for the eyes as well but not moisturising enough for that area so you need to add something on top... I will not repurchase simply because there are similar serums on the market and cheaper and also cos i fancy trying doing one myself. It's too expensive for what it is although the bottle pump is very economical, i've been using it for several months once a day and i still have a bit left...

I fell in love with Vital Essence while living in the Chicago area. The product used to help diminish puffiness around the eyes and it used to have different ingredients, like Comfrey extract. The product is now just another nice eye serum. No one at Neiman Marcus can answer my questions as to why the product was changed and there is NO WAY to get ahold of an official Chantecaille representative. I am looking for a new product.

This is a "won't go wrong" product. I have been using it on and off for one year now, and my bottle is almost gone. I don't think it does more than moisturizing and calming, and in dry winter days, it may not be moisturizing enough. But in the summer, this can be used alone as the only moisturizer as well as eye cream, and it does not "ball up" under sunscreen or other skin/makeup products. In terms of moisturizing, it is very versatile. It is a gel-cream (more of a gel) with various humectants, like bio-sodium hyaluronate and r-GPA from fermented soybean, and other natural ingredients. I use it alone, over watery serum to create a "wrapping film" to force the absorption of serum, or under heavier moisturizer when more moisture is needed. It is very easy and comfortable to use this cosmetically elegant and problem-free product. I do not think it has strong anti-aging effects, but it is a very reliable product that never gave me any irritation or messes with application. Will buy again for sure! And if you are like me, often feel lost among all the fancy products in the department store and not knowing which to go for, then this is a product that won't go wrong.

UPDATE 01/09/09: This is a fantastic product. I have just returned from a long holiday under the sun and used this regularly to hydrate my poor parched skin. I realized that my skin starts suffering whenever I stop using Vital Essence and Biodynamic Cream or Lotion. I think I've hit the jackpot.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: Another MUA find that made me wonder where my mind was before! I was in Space NK and the people there were raving about Chantecaille. I read the rave reviews here and decided to give it a go. I recently tried to 'go organic' but honestly all those oils and waxes just weighed down my skin, broke me out and made me feel like a marmalade jar. I also noticed a mild pinkish tone on my cheeks which I was told could be an onset of rosacea due to hard water.
It has only been a few days since I started using Vital Essence and this is my first Chantecaille product. I use it day and night. I am already seeing results: The breakouts are completely dried out, the tone of my skin is visibly improved, no rosacea on my cheeks. I did not need another moisturizer on top until now, but I will try the Biodynamic Lifting Cream next. I will keep updating the progress with Vital Essence.
UPDATE 06Mar09: I love this. HG status. All redness on my cheeks gone, my skin tone is unbelievably clear, no oiliness, just glowing complexion. No need to use makeup. I use it with Biodynamic Lifting Cream as I found after a couple of days that VE is not moisturizing enough for my combination skin.
