Its a nice on the dark side berry color. However for a lip stain, its false advertising. It very easily wipes off. I had a feeling after purchase this was one of the stains on makeupalley to be wary of but at only $2 at big lots i had to have it. I will probably use it up, as it does seem to compliment my fair skin somewhat but will not repurchase. This does not stay put on your lips... at all. Also, seems to take forever to dry and yes I applied it to clean, dry lips.

This was not good. After purchasing this and eagerly trying it for the first time, I was surprised first by how dark it was compared to the color on the tube. That wasn't a dealbreaker, as I never used a stain before and figured I'll need to apply less next time; or maybe the color will fade and leave me with that perfect "stain". After letting it dry I licked my lips and the taste of this stuff was so nasty and bitter (like food dye) that I had to go spit it out and rinse my mouth out. When I did that, it all rinsed off my lips too. Thinking maybe I was doing something wrong, I tried again. Same result.
I returned this product right away and do not recommend it.

Best color but now it is discontinued! I am trying to find a match in other lipstains but Revlon Craze is too bright. Revlon Beloved is a very close match.

I love lip stains, granted most of them are drying there are those few that really step up the game. This covergirl one runs in the middle for me. The color came out quite even but i had to work at spreading the product. I am not sure if its just the shade i chose but berry smooch only darkens my lips a very small amount. Maybe this would work better on those of fairer skin than mine but overall i feel like i would never reach for this product.

PROS
- Lovely "I just ate berries" look
- This colour is very flattering on fair skin
- Long-lasting
- Inexpensive
- Buildable; by dabbing on a little it can deliver a flush of colour, which you can go over and make as dark as you like
- Cool texta-like applicator
CONS
- Fairly drying, you'd need to use a chapstick beforehand
- The colour can tend to be uneven - e.g. darker bits on some part of the lip
Overall, I really like this product and I look forward to trying different colours!

I love this product very much! This outlast lipstain is ideal for those who prefer high pigmentation OR low pigmentation on their lips. If you don't want very pigmented lips, simply just put a bit on and rub your lips together so the colour evens out. You can keep building the colour which is what I like about this product. It stays on for a whole day. But make sure to put a base on before you use it though because it tends to dry your lips out. And for maximum effect, put a clear or slightly coloured gloss over it. Your lips will look shiny and plump! Oh & Another thing that doesn't really matter but I'd like to say it anyway, is that it has a very nice smell to it that I really like. Unlike some other lip stains that have really bad smells. Anyways, I recommend this product to everyone! :D

I LOVE this product! i got it one day on a whim because it was on sale for half price and i tried it as soon as i got home and fell in love. it dosent have a lot of colour on it and it is not that bright, which is perfect for my colouring and taste in lip colour. the texter applicator is better then a lot of other lip stain applicators that i have tried but i dont know if i would buy this product at full price. i might just wait till it goes on sale again

My mom had bought this for herself, and I decided to try it one day. I don't really like this. There was barely any pigmentation, so I decided to wet the applicator, but still barely any color. Lip balm on top makes the color a bit more pigmented, but not by much. I've tried applying this to my hand to see if there was any color in there/left in this product. Sure enough, the product shows up (somewhat) on my hand, but it seems that it has serious issues when it comes to transference on the lips.
This color goes on just fine to my bottom lip, but when it comes to my top lip, absolutely no color will stick to it at all! And that's when my lips are exfoliated, with nothing on them.
All of the color ends up transferring from my lips to the inside of them, so the outer part of my lips are bare, which looks ridiculous, while I have a big circle of color in the middle of my mouth. The staying power isn't really that long, either, the color (on me) is gone in half an hour. But since I can barely see the color in the first place, it still might be there, I just might not be able to see it. However, for the parts that I can see, part of this lipstain tends to settle itself into some of the lines on my lips, even after exfoliation, a result that I find rather undesirable. (Though lip balm tends to somewhat mask this by only a little bit, as I tried.)
I'm happy that I didn't buy this, otherwise I would be disappointed. (I must note, though, that I wouldn't have bought this anyways because Cover Girl tests on animals, which I am against.) If I had bought this, I would not buy again.
Maybe this color would be good as a base before applying lipstick or lip gloss. However, I will stick to the product that I used for my lip staining purposes before I tried this product: My Tarte Cheek Stain in Natural Beauty, which I apply to my lips. On me, the Tarte Stain is a more vibrant shade of Berry Smooch. (That product has its flaws, too, as all lipstains seem to. However, I will not get into that, seeing as how it doesn't pertain to the product that is being reviewed here.)

This is the best lip stain I have found. I tried several from Sephora, and on a whim bought this at the drug store. It does stain your lips. I get whatever the darkest color is and then just through chap-stick, or lip balm over it. I would say you would need to reapply a couple times a day, but it stays on way better than lipstick, or those horrible lip colors that you can never get off.

I am not a lip stain person, but wanted to try it anyways. I picked one that had a nice color on the outside and went home to give it a try. The color is very off from what is on the packaging. I found this went on more reddish then anything. And it is so drying. There was no moisture at all. This wears off very quickly, even after just drinking water - it was gone. Not worth the money.

I really like the color because it matches my lips closely. It's great for a natural look, or for teens and t'weens. It doesn't last very long, and is a bit drying so I recommend using a lip balm over it. I like this product, but if it were discontinued I wouldn't be upset. Probably won't repurchase.

Lasts a LONG time- not all day but it defiantly will survive up till lunch.
Delivers the right amount of colour for a natural stain but if you want something more dramatic you can go over your lips again without having any of the clumping feathering drama you would expect from other lip products.
A negative would be that I really could not stand the smell. Reminds me of berry flavoured formaldehyde at the dentist.
Plus the felt tip looked a little worse for wear after minimal use.
Overall the price is right and it delivers what it says it does so I'll buy again.

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to try this through a BzzAgent campaign. Berry Smooch is a lovely, sheer stain that leaves the lips looking naturally flushed and defined. Unlike most stains, I did not find this drying at all. In fact, I found this lipstain to be slightly hydrating.
I jumped on the liquid lipstain bandwagon years ago when other companies first introduced them, and I was always disappointed - the colors were always too bright, or they wore off unevenly, or they were drying. This lasts a few hours and wears off evenly. It does not dry my lips. I love the flushed - yet -natural look. The pen applicator is convenient. This is the product I've been looking for all my life! I was therefore so disappointed to find this product contains parabens. I understand that a liquid product needs a good preservative to prevent it from going bad, but I do wish Cover Girl used a preservative with less controversy concerning possible health effects, particularly in the lip area where it may be ingested. So, for now, I will not repurchase - but you can bet that I will periodically check to see if the ingredients are revised!

I absolutely love the way I can shape my lips exactly how I want and don't have to worry about smudging when I eventually purse them together. Very cool. It's just like using a marker on your lips, and honestly I've kind of always had the urge to do just that! So this did fulfill my strange desire to smear a marker on my face. Cool beans.
I'm not really very fond of the color, though I have only tried it once and I didn't use lip gloss, just tested it as soon as I got home with it. It was basically the same color as my lips, just a tiny bit darker. I didn't like how the color became a bit darker in the very center, near inside of my top lip. They looked more chapped than stained. So this color I don't plan on repurchasing, but I am in love with the whole marker idea, so I'll be buying different colors asap.

YAY! My fave color of this cg lipstain (and ive tried every single one except flirty nude since i heard it is straight-up orange, ick!). The thing I love most is that it starts off super-light. It is more buildable than the others since some of the others are SO dark and bright right away. This is more ylbb than the others too. Starts off as a nice, soft purplish berry but looks kinda natural not TOO purple. Add more and it is a bit deeper and thus more sultry. Add even more and it looks a bit punk purplish. Definately the best color -for me-. I have fair to med slightly yellowish skin tone, blondish light reddish hair. These lipstains last long for me if i start with a clean dry lip (no lip gloss!) and let it set for a minute THEN apply balm. Lasts hours but fades when eating/drinking a little.

As with anything, ymmv. I drink a lot of water during the day and I hate having to constantly reapply lip color so I'm always on the hunt for something long-lasting. However, this doesn't even last through a cup of coffee for me. Love the berry color though. MLBB, a deeper shade of my own berryish color lips. I will use up the tube, but won't repurchase.

I bought this a few weeks ago and it sat unused because it's winter and lipstains tend to dry out my lips. Then finallly, I couldn't resist anymore and put it on and fell in love with the pretty, cool-toned berry/mauve color. You really can layer it to get the color intensity you desire. What I did was apply lightly and then I applied Stila Apricot lip glaze (this helps keep it from feathering, too). Wow - so pretty and lasts all day! Unlike some lip stains that come off if you add lip gloss, this one stays even if your lip gloss wears off. The lipstain does have a taste, which is not unpleasant and doesn't last long. I am really glad I picked this up.

This color is 100% better on me than the Teasing Blush, which is actually warm coral, not the cool neutral it looks like in the package and on the website. But moving on...
I really like how control-able the applicator is, far more even than trying to apply a lipstain with Revlon's rollerball, and the color is less popsicle. Weird fruity, chemical taste, but it's easy enough to not lick my lips, and nothing drifts, drips, moves or feathers, which is really nice. I start by outlining my lips, and if I go out of the lines on my upper lips just a hair to make them look more voluptuos, you can't tell that I'm cheating and it looks great!
Pretty crappy lasting power, though. I don't understand why none of the lipstains actually do much staining. I get a couple hours of wear under lipgloss if I don't eat or drink anything. Regular pigmented lipgloss does the same thing, though. No props there.
I guess I should address this color. I was worried about it seeming too purple, but it's actually quite natural, and looks good against my very pale self. Too many layers and it gets a little goth-purpley, but a few and it's lovely.
I won't be buying anymore since regular gloss does the same trick, but I'll use this up. If it could just last through an evening out, I'd be totally sold.

This is great! I haven't liked any of the lasting all day products I've tried. They tend to flake or suck out the moisture. Or the lasting stains are too dark.
This one is so much better. I knocked off a lippie because I wished it lasted longer. You can build this color from a sheer berry to more like a wine. I don't want it that dark, so I'm probably not putting on enough to make it last longer. If I use more, it seems like it lasts more. I'm waiting on everbloom in a swap and I think that one I'll be able to lay on more. I'll do another review when I have it and the swap is completed.
I smile when I put it on, so no dark and light patches. I've had no bleeding/feathering. It looks so nice under my gloss.
Can't beat the price.
Highly recommended!

i love this lip stain! it is not dark at all. i have very fair skin and it looks fine on me. tastes fruity, but does feel dry after a while, so i use the CG clear gloss on top.
mine fades rather quickly. but i lick and bite my lips all the time.
i also have the plum colored one and i have to be very careful with it, because it is way too dark for me if i put too much on. i may use it in the summer because it makes me look like i have been eating a red popscicle.
