If you're looking for a natural dewy highlight tone this is the best of the best. I use it for highlighting my cheek bones, brow bones, my Cupid's bow and down the center of my nose or just an overall glow. I've used it for years and it hardly runs out. It stays on well and is easy to apply I usually just use my finger tips!

I am very fair (NC15 at Mac) and I was looking for a highlighter that would be very healthy, and I wanted to steer away from "white-ish" highlighters such as Benefit's nightmare of a product called "High Beam". Some of my favourite Youtube beauty guru's such as Gh0stparties, Essiebutton and Kate's Beauty Blog use this MSF and they are all fair like me, so I decided to give it a go! It's worth every penny, you get an insane amount of product. I use this over top of my cream blush and use the Real Techniques Contour Brush to highlight my cheek bones and down the bridge of my nose. This stuff looks natural, but not SO natural that you don't even know it's there, it's the perfect, healthy glow, and it totally minimizes the look of pores. I adore this product, and I wear it pretty much every single day! It works well when applied with the Real Techniques contour blush or a stippling brush! If you're on the fence about purchasing this product, just do it...You won't regret it, I currently couldn't live without it!

I overlooked Soft and Gentle for so long because it looked too dark for my light NC15-20 skin, I had imagined it would be a shimmery bronzer. I had purchased Lightscapade and was disappointed. It was beautiful in the compact but BARELY showed up on my skin. When I went to return Lightscapade, the sales associate applied Soft and Gentle to my cheekbones and it was beautiful! Its a mixture of pink, pearl, and maybe silver. You do need to use a light hand with this, you can look a little crazy if you apply too much. Soft and Gentle last throughout most of the day, giving a pretty glow to my skin. I apply it to my cheekbones, forehead, nose, and inner corner of my eyes. I love this highlighter.

Age: 25-29   Skin: Combination, Fair, Warm   Hair: Red, Wavy, Coarse   Eyes: Hazel

Color: The main color is a light nude with subtle pink tones. About the same lightness as my skin tone (NC20), only cooler. Great color for highlighting fair to medium skin... or any skin tone really. There are also golden glitter veins running through the surface. When the pinky nude base color and the gold glitter veins are mixed together, they create a color that is fairly neutral... maybe slightly golden when on cheeks.

Finish: GOLD SPARKLES!!!! When I read that some felt Soft & Gentle was too sparkly, I figured "pssshhh, I own lots of MSFs and none of them are too sparkly for me. I'm sure S&G will be just like the rest". Well, I was wrong. This is far more sparkly than any other MSF I own (mind you... I don't own any other MSF in the regular line, but I do own a lot of LEs). The pinky nude base color is very shimmery, reflective, and fairly sparkly/glittery. The golden veins are mostly glitter and sparkle with very little pigmentation. When the base and the veins are mixed together, it creates an INTENSELY glittery look. If applying with a blush sized brush, there's really no way of getting the base color without the glitter veins. Definitely not to be worn anywhere except the cheekbones. I would only feel comfortable wearing this at a club or perhaps at Christmastime if I want something a little over the top.

Texture: Similar to any other MSF: Soft, but not too soft. Easy to apply, but needs a fairly light hand to avoid overdoing.

Wear Length: My only problem with MSFs in general.... 2 hours maximum with my regular application (on top of foundation and finishing powder). However, if I mist my face with water after applying, I can get it to last up to 5 hours.

Bottom Line: SPARKLES!!! GLITTER!!! I love MSFs despite their comparatively poor wear time, but this one is just far too glittery for me. Wouldn't dream of repurchasing.

The color is (as the name suggests) soft and gentle. The issue for me is in the wearability. It seems to lose its luster/disappear after a few hours. That said, it's versatile. I use it on cheekbones and on eyes as highlighter.
Like any powder based highlighter or shimmery product, if you apply too liberally, it can actually age you (it sits in fine lines). I have found using a smaller brush works better and offers more control --but again -- steer clear of the underage area...especially of you're over 35! :)

Ugh! Finally got this after so many people raving about it but I hate this evil stuff. I wanted a light sheen over my 30 something skin but this highlights every imperfection and the huge chunks of glitter travel down my face leaving me a overly shiny mess. I wanted to do my forehead and Cupid's bow too but this makes me look like I'm child about to go on stage for a dancing competition. Will sell it online when I can be bothered and search for something more sophisticated.

I love this highlight it looks good on my ski tone but I think I'll just use the hard candy tiki bronzer after I finish this since they are pretty much the same but 1/4 of the price. But great product!!

This product is not worth the hype in my opinion. There are plenty of better highlights out there. I had a hard time getting this to show up on my skin. It has almost a muddy pink/silver sheen to it when I was able to swatch it and build it up on my hand. I also tried using it under my brow bone and in the inner corners of my eyes, but it was useless. I do not recommend.

This is a great product. I wear it on my cheeks and also on my brow bones and it gives me a lovely sun-kissed glow. You can wear it over your full face of make-up, or in the summer you could easily just wear it on it's own! Very shimmery and pretty, love this product xxxx

I really like the glow this product gives me! But the thing with this product is that I don't always like it that much. Sometimes the shimmers are just too much and in some lighting you look like a discoball. But it the summer this looks great on most people and overall I really like this product. I think I will repurchase if I will ever run out of this.

I looooove this.. ive been using it on a daily basis and love the results. I like to add a little bit of creme base pearl on the top of my cheekbones and then slightly dusting this on top with elf blush brush from their studio line and it just looks amazing together. Will definitely purchase again if i ever hit the pan which wont be in a while.

Have been looking for a highlighter for ages. MAC's bronzer is great but a bit over the top for daytime and most skin tone.
This is great to wear to work. I haven't tried layering it with bronzer but have with blush (didn't really add anything to the look).
By itself it is the best product to give you a healthy glow that you see on all the celebs

Holy Grail type of highlighter product here...very, very shimmery and gorgeous. I put it on my cheeks mostly, a little bit on my t-zone. I always, always get compliments on my make-up when I wear this, and I swear it's really one of those ingredients that make your face look flawless when applying make-up. I put it over my foundation and contouring and underneath my highlighter and blush.
I understand how some people say it accentuates flaws/lines, and I could see that. It really is shimmery and bright, so if you have a lot of fine lines, you may want to skip on this. Give it a try first. I'm 26 with really light skin and it looks amazing on me. Another amazing highlighter is theBalm Mary Lou-manizer.

I am NC20, asian girl with yellow undertones, and get oily throughout the day. You might think oily folks should stay away from highlights, but this powder highlighter "Soft and Gentle" is amazing. Highlighters always make me look like I've had work done (Without any surgery yay!)

I model and when this is used it makes my face glow. I loved it when the makeup artist used this on me so much that I decided to get one my own.

I did the ultimate test: I slept in this, and after I woke up it was still on, no fading, nothing. This product lasted me at least 10 hours!

Really versatile product--- I like using this as an eyeshadow more than anything else. brings a beautiful glowy, warm golden type look to my face when used on my cheekbones, cupids bow and the bridge of my nose.
kind of hard to explain, all you need to know is that its a great multipurpose MSF.
I use it sparingly though, because whenever I get too heavy handed it ends up accentuating dry flakes, fine lines and etc.
if I ever do run out (seriously, I've been using this religiously for the past year and haven't even made a dent) I'll be sure to repurchase.

This product is my holy grail. I have fallen absolutely in love with this product. I adore MAC. I use Soft and Gentle everyday as a highlighter and it’s just so beautiful. It was so hyped and raved about and now I know why! It gives a beautiful natural glow to your face and I get compliments all the time when I use it. You can use this as an eye shadow as well. Definitely recommend to everyone and I have been repurchasing over and over again. Don’t walk to purchase this product, RUN! Get this product now you won’t regret it!

It is quite glittery, so I prefer to use it sparingly during the day because it can get very noticeable and obvious in the sunlight. Because I am so pale I feel that it gives me a tanned look when using this during the summer because it is not a translucent highlighter. Other than that, it accentuates my cheekbones, gives my makeup a nice finish, goes well with any colors etc. The price is a bit on the expensive side considering that there are many other highlighters in the drugstore that give the similar effect.

HOLY GLITTER!! Accentuates pores and fine lines. You can't put it on the center of your forehead, bridge of your nose, cupid's bow, etc. etc. ONLY on your cheek, because anywhere else and it settles into imperfections. I prefer highlighters that don't scream "HEY LOOK AT ME, I'M A HIGHLIGHTER" I prefer ones that are subtle, natural, and give a "lit from within", glowing effect. This is just a fake glittery mess. Will be returning it.

MAC has to be one of my favorite high end brands, I just love their amazing range of products and their variety. Not to mention, they are the only foundation on the face of the planet that perfectly matches my skin! I have heard countless things about this highlighter and I am the queen of highlighters lol. I recently have discovered how to use them and I am absolutely in love with it because I have super high cheek bones as I am part native. I normally use Hard Candy's 'bronzer' in "Tiki" and it is still one of my favorite highlighters. It is gorgeous, but I was on the hunt for something new. I also had this crappy Physician's Formula Compact with a bunch of bead looking things that's a pinky/champagne color, it was complete crap - not pigmented at all and looked pretty horrible all together. ANYWAYS, lol, I went to MAC for my usual Prolong Wear Foundation and I saw this glistening under the lights. I swatched it, and immediately fell in love. It was such a gorgeous champagne shimmer, nothing like a glitter bomb that you can sometimes get with highlighters (although this highlighter does have glitter, it is not chunky whatsoever and I can hardly tell). This stuff is SUPER pigmented. I mean, ridiculously. Which means a little will go a long way. I've had this for about 3 months with frequent use alternating between this and my Hard Candy highlighter, and there isn't even a dent in my pan. I can see this lasting me a very very long time. This looks stunning on my tan skin, it's not too white or ghostly looking and not too silver or gold or pink. It's juuuust right. It looks amazing in pictures and it lasts a decent amount of time, but sometimes I do have to reapply throughout the day. One of my Holy Grail products.

This has become my go to high lighter I pair with all my coral and peach blushes as it harmoniously works with them. Departs a lovely peachy golden glow that it's not glittery nor obnoxious. I normally apply all my cheek bone high lighter with a 188, but lately have been using a 168 with great results too.
