When I first got this eyeliner, I had a few complaints and didn't think I would buy this liner again.

1) It's NOT completely waterproof. Although marketed as "waterproof," the slightest watering of my eyes or a humid/hot day can require re-application or touch-up. Fortunately, it doesn't run or smear, especially the lighter color Cognac.

2) It's expensive. But it's lasted me at least a few months now and it's the one makeup item that I use the most (after my eyelid primer). So really, probably the most cost-effective thing I've bought. I have monolid/Asian eyes that get greasy from sweat and teary from contact lenses, so eye makeup had always been a chore/challenge. Since I've had this, I really don't hesitate to wear makeup or eyeliner if I have an extra 5 minutes in the morning.

3) It wasn't as easy to use as the Script, which is the super-fine tip liner by Hourglass. That said, this tip does make everything except the tips a lot quicker/easier to do. I was a complete newbie at liquid eyeliners before the Script/Calligraphy, but it wasn't difficult to master.

This eyeliner was really disappointing, and especially for the price.

I'd been really excited about cat-eyes a couple months ago, and this product had come recommended by InStyle magazine (though I understand that magazines will recommend almost anything; I think brands pay magazines $$ to suggest their products). I knew it was a ridiculous splurge, but I wanted the very best because I'd been doing cat-eye liner almost every day by that point. So, I went to Sephora and the Hourglass training representative was actually there that day giving tips and recommendations just by chance. I'd expressed my interest in the liner and she suggested that I store it upside-down so that it would last longer. I paid and happily went on my way.

I swear I'd gotten maybe ten uses out of it before it dried out. And I followed the woman's instructions! Forty bucks is a terrible price to pay for ... well ... it really is just a terrible price.

My advice: go to the drugstore and buy the Physician's Formula Eye Definer Felt-tip eye marker. It costs literally a fraction of Hourglass's price, has bolder ink, and lasts much longer.

I got this as I was testing out different pen style eyeliner. This one is pretty good. Its non irritating and easy to use. I got the cognac one and i love the color. The packaging is really pretty and definitely looks expensive. However for an eyeliner this is really pricey. I think I paid around $50 CDN for this at my Sephora, It is a great product but for an eyeliner I don't think its worth the price. The only good thing about this is I know that I will get my money's worth since I will be using all the time.

Dries out super fast (for $40 I expect this to last at least 1 month/aka 30 Applications, min!). It applies unevenly even if you swipe it with a steady hand and the tip started bending after a few applications and I couldn't get any ink out without pressing really hard. Even then it came out unevenly because the very point had lost its point. TOTAL waste of money. Please ladies and gentlemen, do support this sort of company! Learn from my mistake.

I got this product around a year ago at Sephora for $40 cause I was looking for a cruelty free, black liquid liner that would not smudge. I clearly got it as a splurge item since it is ridiculous to spend $40 on a liquid liner on any planet. The only thing I can say is that this eyeliner, sucks. I got the eyeliner in the colour ebony (black) and the pigmentation was terrible! It looked like a very washed out black colour which was extremely disappointing. Also, the eyeliner was so dry that I had to do a million tiny strokes and press really hard against my lids in order just to make the darn stuff show up- and it smudged. The only thing I did appreciated about this eyeliner is that the sponge tip was thin enough to get really close to my lashes that way I didn't have a thick and out of control line. Bottom line is that I will not buy this eyeliner again for any reason and it was a total ripoff.

I do like the finish of this product, it's much more matte than my Lancôme artliner. But for a liquid liner, I feel that the applicator is too dry, even when new. It tugs on my lid ever so slightly and makes a rigid line rather than a smooth one, which makes it difficult for me to get that crisp perfect line that I love. It does have lasting power that rivals the art liner, but for the aforementioned reason I would not repurchase this.

I picked mine up in one of those "Sephora Favorites" kits they offered - one full of eyeliners, back during the Holiday season of 2010.

It's good, overall. A lovely dark, rich black that's easy to grip, in sexy packaging and very pigmented. The lasting power as well is nice.

When it's in it's newborn-stage. Then it dries out.

I didnt use it /everyday/, but I did use it a bit, on and off and it dried. Here's the weird part - not the liquid, but the tip. Wtf?

It doesn't flake or smudge and is waterproof, but when the tip dries out, very quickly of course, its harder to get product out. A lighter application of the liner makes it more vulnerable. So it becomes smudge-able, has crap lasting power and if/when I cry... oh man. Oh m a n.

Here I am a year later and still owning it. Just because it's so pretty. Even though it's completely out juice. Which... is really weird. But needless to say, I won't be repurchasing even though I didn't pay full price in the first place - so in all honesty, I don't have a huge say in the price point because of that, however I will say that it would be absurd of me to buy it at full price. And I lied about the first bit. It's not completely out of juice. I can always use the base of the felt-tip to get some dark liquid out onto the back of my hand because that part doesn't seem to dry out... it stays moist. So it still's got juice. I just refuse to wear it.

It's a good liner. It is. But it's not the best. If you want more bang for your buck, I'd say check out Revlon's Colorstay Liquid Eye Pen or something else along the lines of that because there are tons that are offered by every company out there... for cheaper.

If you wear liner everyday and are not the type to switch up from pencil one day to gel to liquid the day after, I guess why not bite the bullet and purchase it. Just don't let it leave your sight. Use it everyday and love it like your child. Get your money's worth!

Long lasting, intense, precise and very much needed product in ur daily routine. I have tried the bobby brown gels, Mac's black track , stila kajal and everything out there but nothing comes close to the easeness of application of this fine pen eyeliner. Its just as it should be- perfect. The liner lasts all day and you can get a gorgeous Cleopatra eye with this.

nice brush, easy to use, and nice application. the only drwaback is it is not at all a dark black and cannot apply extra coats. maybe their new Script liner is better.

I really liked this product a lot!! I used it just fine and didn't have the issues with the felt drying out. It gave me an awesome line and stayed put all day long on my greasy eyelids. I wore this just fine during pregnancy. After I gave birth however I because allergic to it. I couldn't put my finger onto what was causing my eyes to pus until i stopped using all Hourglass eye products!! It's such a shame because their eyeshadow is AMAZING!!! I'm wondering if my allergy has stopped because now my hormones are back to almost normal. I might just go out to Sephora and purchase this again.

So I actually got this for a song in a Sephora black liner collection. It is my only Hourglass product and since I am a liquid liner fiend I was pretty excited to try it. I like the applicator and the thin line I wanted was fairly easy to achieve. HOWever on revisting the liner a month later I found it to be so dried I was getting a gray streaky application. Major no no. None of my other liquid liners, felt tip or otherwise, dried out so quickly.

I love this liquid liner sook much. the price sucks, but the liner doesn't budge, leak, or transfer onto my lid. it doesn't have a patent finish, which I prefer the matte.
the fact that it has ingredients that are GOOD for the delicate eye area make me feel better about the price.

This is soooo going back. Not so much for it being terrible, but for the price I paid, I expected much more. It is a handy liner and packaging is great to throw in your purse and not have to carry a brush to apply it. I wanted it for quick touch ups on the run, but the thing smudges on me too much for the price of like 32 bucks. With a primer on my lids it has great staying power but on my lower lash line it smudges after an hour, and forget about it even staying a minute in my waterline. Besides there are better alternatives and cheaper ones for my upperlid. I would try those first before splurging on this product.

seems i may be in the minority here but this product was just the worst. went on ok and had fairly good control but within the hour it was gone and i am not oily! did not feel the indigo color was that much softer than black. for $30.00 this should have been perfect.

I will always keep this product in my freelance makeup kit !!!! The felt tip is amazing and if you can not use a liquid think again! if you mess up take a Q-Tip add some water and correct the problem with a little water and pressure! No makeup remover. AMAZING !!!! Great for weddings or events where people will tear up and cry! Great job Hourglass

Expensive for a liquid liner, but the shades are gorgeous and very flattering. This isn't waterproof, per se, but def. sweat proof and water resistant. I like these because they don't go on in the thick manner of gels and other liquids. For as thin as the liquid is, the coverage is quite opaque and flattering with a slight glossy finish. You can do a cat-eye or simply line without the liner looking heavy, so very flattering to the eye. Would definitely repurchase. Have all three, and the black is a true black but lacks a garishness of other brands. The Cognac is perfect for those who can't wear a black but most browns are too light, it's more of a black/brown and looks very natural. The Indigo is one of my favorite shades of navy I've ever come across, it has a slight yellow undertone to it to prevent it from looking like an electric blue liquid from the 80's. I have prominent yellow undertones in my skin and most blues look very bright and harsh against my skintone, but this one is a very flattering blue. I reach for them all with equal consistency. If you love liquid eyeliners and a cat-eye, then these are worth the price. Def. a must have.

I got this in Indigo and it draws a dark dark dark smooth line. Love it for a retro look with a nude eye. My hands shake yet I was able to use this to make a flawless line. I'm getting more.

Hourglass describes this breakthrough product as a refined felt-tip precision eye liner, infused with botanical extracts and pearl protein, which creates striking, definitive eyes without tug or skip.

* Waterproof
* Longwearing formula quickly dries to prevent smear and transfer
* Contains antioxidant-rich Rosemary, Perilla, Chamomile, and Aloe extracts to soothe and moisturize the eyes

Yep. That is THEIR description. Mine is that if you are going to buy just one make-up item this year, this decade, this century even, make it this one!

I'm not big on eye makeup. I don't have anything against it, it just doesn't usually look terribly good on me. I have deep-set eyes. Even when I've had my makeup done professionally, it just isn't a look I like.

The tip on this eyeliner is amazingly thin. Furthermore, all you have to do is touch it ever so lightly to your skin. One application suggestion from the product's developer was to dot it between your eyelashes. It sounded incredibly labor intensive, but it wasn't. I'm not all that skilled at applying makeup and it took me less than five minutes. The result was fabulous. The thin dark rim around my eyes made them look bigger and rounder than they are. My eyelashes suddenly appeared very thick and lush. And, best of all, it didn't look like I was wearing makeup. That's right. It looked like I was born with these attributes! (I should mention that I didn't use the "ebony" which is a jet black, but the "cognac" which is a very deep almost black brown) 10 hours later and my eyes looked as perfect as they did when I first applied my makeup. And, included in those 10 hours was 45 minutes of fairly intense circuit training at the gym....

The following weekend, I went a step further. Rather than just doing dots, I lined my eyes with the thinnest of thin lines. The effect was very similar, just a little more dramatic. It was a perfect look for the nighttime event we were off to.

Although the product is waterproof, it comes off clean and easy. No hard to remove smudges.

The container itself is sleek and beautiful and feels good in my hand.

At $32, Calligraphy doesn't come cheap. And, unlike Hourglass' Trace eyeliner, I don't believe the took is refillable. I don't care. It is more than worth it. If I could give this 50 lippies I'd do it in a heartbeat.
