I'm a little confused by the other reviews, as my experience with this scent has been completely different. I wore this scent for the first time today, and I sprayed on entirely too much. All I could smell was patchouli, for hours and hours. Yes, "pure patchouli!" I was really surprised, because I'm a big fan of Fresh fragrances because of their beautiful complexity, and also because I had read the notes that are supposedly in Patchouli Pure and was eagerly expecting to smell a nicely blended patch-based oriental. But all I got was plain patchouli, with a sort of powdery drydown. It smells pleasant enough, don't get me wrong- its not a "dirty" patchouli scent, but despite all the other notes listed, I can only smell the patch. I've found that men really seem to like this scent on me, while most women do not! Interesting... I wish I knew what is behind these scent preferences.

This is a really overwhelming smell, compared to most of fresh's fragrances that go on and immediately start to disappear. I'm not familiar with what patchouli is supposed to smell like, but this is a really spicy, popourri smell that I just can't stand, it makes my eyes water and I can't wait for it to wear off! I can *maybe* see this being a fragrance you would get away with in the winter around the holidays...but only if you sprayed yourself very sparingly, and only if you didn't have anything else to wear.

Or not. Smells nothing like patchouli. Smells like a generic guy in a generic bar.

Holy cow what in the world are these people at Fresh doing? This has got to be the most revolting "fragrance" in the world. I immedietly had to wash it off my hand(x2). I then decided an hour later, maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance. I sprayed it in my room to see if it smelled better in the air rather then on my skin.....nasty. There is no way, no how, I would ever ever ever wear this scent. TOmorrow it goes back to Sephora to be damaged out.... where they should throw them all. YUK

The people that make fun of patchouli hurt my feelings. I happen to be very clean and classy and I love the smell of patchouli. I am not a hippie. This perfume, however, smells NOTHING like patchouli to me. It seems like the only people who like this fragrance are the people who don't like patchouli. I think Fresh needs to find a new name for this perfume.

I took a gamble and spent $75 to mail-order this fragrance from Sephora and I couldn't have been more diappointed if they sent me a bottle of...er...this is a family website, right?? Never mind! What a raunchy, overpowering smell (not scent!!)--it was strictly cheap and synthetically floral mixed with chemical floor-cleaner and "cheap-OTC-cosmetic" odors. Where was the patchouli promised? Not a whiff, I promise you!! I had signed up for a rich, golden, Oriental-type spicy, resinous, and slightly mysterious/sexy fragrance...so I thought. The rather tall, plain bottle was sort of pretty but rather unremarkable. The only "golden" quality about PP was its literal color. I actually feel quite foolish for not test-driiving a sample of this first, but I'll NEVER make the mistake of buying blind again without at LEAST trying to find consumer reviews. I did try the CdG Incense series (Avignon) based on several positive reviews and I got just what I expected. Avoid this Patchouli Pure at any cost! PURE WHAT??!!??!!

This is one of the only Fresh scents that bothers me! Atchoo! This is vile...should be called 'Headache is a Bottle'. I would not recommend this at all! Sorry Fresh, this is not a winner!

Patchouli Pure. Interesting name because this is anything but a pure patchouli scent. It's a lovely scent for people who think they don't like patchouli. However, they do have to like orange and sweet spices like cinnamon and ginger. I'm afraid this isn't quite as racy an image as Squirrelgirl had in her review below, but Patchouli Pure strikes me as being the love child of a soft patchouli like L'Artisan's Patchouli Patch or Les Nereides' Antique Patchouli and Agraria's Bitter Orange. The spices are certainly not overwhelming, but they are definitely there making this a warm, sweet patchouli, perfect for fall and winter.

I'm not a major Patchouli fan as I find this note far too overpowering for my liking. However, Fresh's Patchouli Pure is a wonderful surprise. It has nothing to do with traditional patchouli fragnances, this one is divine: warm, sexy, sweet but, at the same time, fresh and earthy as a previous reviewer mentioned. Highly recommend trying!

This is one of my favorite perfumes. I can't say enough good things about it. But as with all patchouli scents, LESS IS MORE. I find it best not to spray this on but rather to dab it lightly on a cotton ball and then, to dab the cotton ball lightly on my pulse points. That's all I need. The top notes are, to my nose, very strong ginger and bergamot (I know the marketing info says that there is orange as well, but I don't get that). After about 30 minutes, the patchouli and cinnamon and vanilla start to show up and it turns sweeter, but not sweet. If anyone is looking for something a little spicy and warm, this is a good fragrance to try. But apply it sparingly and let it warm up. Just the slightest dab and I get a warm, sexy aroma, and none of the dirty patchouli scent we all fear.

Receieved this sample in a swap from a very generous MUAer. Wasn't even going to LOOK at it, let alone sniff it...I ABHORE THE STINK OF PATCHOULI!! Patchouli smells like greasy unwashed dirty footed hippie funk, it smells ripe, it causes the best of fragrances to turn on me and make me smell like that kid everyone goes out of their way to avoid because they're smelly.
But.
This. This is something else entirely. This is warm, earthy, sensual, smells a bit sweet and and ambery...makes me proud to feel like a beautiful dirty hippie goddess woman!

What on earth? Is this what Patchouli is supposed to smell like? Not for $75.00 I hope! Did not like it, smells more masculine and and musky to me. Would definitely not purchase this without smelling it first. But then again, I'm no Patchouli expert...

I admit, I can be wooed with words, but allow me to alert you to this prose poem written by an overheated marketer at Fresh to describe Patchouli Pure:"We are in Spain. We just met. A big room with very high ceilings. Tall windows open onto the
balcony. Silk drapes are slightly swaying from a gentle breeze. The fan is moving slowly – breaking through a balmy, amber air." "It is very early in morning and still dark outside. Music echoes in the background from far away sounds of a
guitar. A gentle breeze of bergamot from a mountain nearby flows through the room. The scent of her body is on mylips." " Patchouli incense is burning – we just made love. There is a sweet feeling of tiredness and peace. We kiss each other one last time before we drift to sleep." Perfume "pornography"! LOL! ;-) Ok-I suppose the 3 paragraphs very nicely correspond to Fresh's "Index" to the top, heart and bottom notes of this fragrance, which, by the way, HAS won my heart! This index does make sense to me-which is not always the case with Fresh scents. The predominant top note to my discerning nose is ginger, although bergamot and orange are present too. The scent "heartens" nicely with
patchouli and cinnamon notes without being overly assertive, cloying or strong-which patchouli can be... The scent settles down beautifully with amber, vanilla and tonka bean notes. I'm not a lover of vanilla-but here it does not predominate. Altogether, a quite satisfying experience ;-)
