I have never reviewed any skin or hair products, though Im something of a product junkie and am always down to try new things and expand my ever growing product collection. That being said, my experience using this brand was so horrifying that i felt it was my civic and moral duty to warn any unassuming ladies who might be mesmerized by the hype surrounding this, and entertain the idea of trying it out. Let me be quick and dirty for a minute, hands down the WORST product i have ever used on my hair. I would buy the 99 cent shampoo over this crap any day of the week. I have medium lenght slighty curly hair that is somewhat on the dry side but very fine. After using this product my hair felt extremely dry and to my horror, the shower floor was about covered with fallen strands. After using the conditioner of the same brand (somewhat of a masochist some would say) my hair was extremely dry and after letting it blow dry i had the dreaded straw hair for about 1 week, no matter how many deep conditionings and hot oil treatments i did. Never again will i buy this so called proffesional brand, i wouldnt even wash my dogs hair with it. Not overly expensive, but after buying the shampoo, conditioner and deep conditioning mask i was out 50.00 dollars and 20 minutes of my life ill never get back. Ladies Please Please Please do not buy this. It is a huge waste of money, and ur hair will thank you for it.

This is a very average shampoo. Sure it cleaned well, but so do a million other products that cost half as much. Otherwise, my hair felt pretty much the way it always does. Not a bad product, but not worth the price tag.

Recently I have decided to color my hair from a 5/6 VR (medium violet red) as close back to my natural color as possible, an almost black 2N with a hint of violet for warmth. I am trying to grow my hair out and wanted to switch to something more moisturizing and repairing than the All Soft for example, which I still love!
I had a terrible experience with the Aveda Brilliant shampoo, which caused so much dryness and breakage on my hair I had to cut out an additional inch at my last trim because my ends were so jagged. I immediately went out and bought the Real Control after going back to my black hair. My hair truly couldn't thank me enough. It had so much body and moisture. I had no tangles and even with a light conditioner, my hair didn't feel dry.
Occasionally I do feel a little build up, so every 2-3 weeks I will use a clarifying shampoo in its place, with a deep conditioner, which I feel should be the case in anybodies hair regimen.

This didn't really do much except for make my hair dirty. My hair wasn't really dirty going into the shower, but I couldn't wait to try this out. So, I was massaging my scalp before I used this shampoo and it felt pretty clean, then I used this and instead of making my hair cleaner, it made it dirtier! It felt like I just washed with water, or a detangler or something but not shampoo. This did detangle my hair and obviously did not strip it, but not with moisture with some greasy coating. As soon as my hair was dried it felt like I hadn't washed my hair for days and my scalp felt suffocated if you know what I mean. Awful. Along with the conditioner, my hair didn't even feel moisturized! It helped to control frizz but that's it. Also, it smells kind of strange, like hand lotion. Not awful, but I don't want my hair to smell like hand lotion either. I can't wait to clarify my hair and get this gunk out.

My stylist recommended this shampoo for my thick, coarse, naturally curly, dry, long hair. She said it combined all the best things of Redken’s All Soft, Extreme, and Smooth Down lines. This smelled pleasant and didn’t seem to strip my hair of moisture. It does contain sulfates and since I do color my hair occasionally, I’ve stopped buying this shampoo and switched to a sulfate-free formula (L’Oreal EverStrong Hydrate Shampoo). L’Oreal is much cheaper and I like the creaminess of their formula, so I won’t buy Redken’s shampoo again.

After getting my dark brown hair bleached this spring, my hairdresser wanted me to switch from All Soft to Real Control, to give my hair a little more moisture and strength. I really like it! I only wash my hair every~5 days and I use a lot of oils and creams on it (I have a TON of thick hair that is very wavy and long), and this shampoo cleans very well without making my scalp feel dry or tight. I like the scent too. I use this shampoo in conjunction with the conditioner, the Crema Care for days I wash my hair, and on the nights before I wash my hair, I'll put the Real Control Overnight Treat in and sleep with it in too. It does make my bleached hair feel a lot silkier and look a lot shinier!

This shampoo along with the matching conditioner (which I also reviewed isn't anything that great. It seemed to make my thick, wavy and coarse/dry hair feel yucky. I also don't care for the different size of shampoo and conditioner. I like to use the same brand when doing my hair. Well not repurchase.

Great lightweight conditioning shampoo.I have voluminous, medium hair. Never dyed, dark brown and I have a lot of hair. So much that I can make a Persian rug.
Cleans my hair, but doesn't make my hair oily in two/three days time. Very conditioning and smells pleasant, slightly like sweet chemicals.
You only need a small amount to wash your hair, it doesn't foam up too much. Vry expensive product to purchase in Australia $21 a bottle for 300ml.
I would buy again but this time, I am buying off international sites that sell them for $15 a bottle. Best shampoo and conditioner that I have tried, and I would prefer to always buy this product if I have the extra dollars to fork out.

I live in Japan and so when I go back to the States I stock up on shampoo because Japanese brands leave my fine hair really greasy. I was skeptical but an Ulta employee talked me into buying Real Control. Japan has super hard water and tons of humidity. Lets just say, my wavy hair that looks smooth and silky in America looks like a frizzy mess in Japan, especially in the summer. So far, my hair looks and feels much better without any extra weight. I'm sure the summer will still be a challenge but at least now I feel I have a better chance at more good hair days.

Nice shampoo. Moisturising but still cleans very thorough. great for women with thick, coarse and dryish hair.
I actually like this one more than the all soft shampoo, i cant tell you why exactly but my hair just responds better to this one. It Doesnt cause tangles as its very gentle despite giving a very good lather. you only need a small bit of shampoo.
I will continue to purchase this shampoo, ive tried many of redkens other shampoos but this one seems to suite me best.
Every other week i use a clarifying shampoo, i think this is very important to do so when using moisturising products continuously on hair to maintain their effectiveness and to ensure your hair and scalp are not getting suffocated with build up.

i use this shampoo to remove silicones from my hair it works great because its very moisturizing, i have fine curly hair but ALOT of it and i apply kenra blow dry spray and leavein conditioner to my ends but i am VERY FEARFUL of "silicones suffocatting my hair" so i use a natural sulfate free shampoo by ABBA "pure moisture" its amazing :)then i take a small drop of the real controll shampoo and put it on the ends and midlengths of my hair to remove the silicones <3 i love this shampoo also on my roots if i use alot of hair spray for an updo this shampoo smells great too<3 then i follow up with joicos intense hydrator as my conditioner, deep treatment joico revitaluxe once a week i finally found my HG hair care routine

Love!! works great for my frizzy colored treated hair!! I use this when I want to blow dry and flat iron or use the curling iron. I am very impressed with the shampoo, as it did not weigh my hair done, nor the conditioner. It left my hair silky and shiny, without feeling greasy. I used just a touch of the Redken Heat Glide after gently towel drying but I can tell my hair was already pretty smooth and silky. I have yet to use this on a long term - basis, we shall see if it keeps my hair in real control.

I love love this shampoo. I have thick, straight, long, non dyed hair. My hair is so long that my scalp tends to get oily but the ends of my hair tend to dry out. After using this my hair feels so nourished and clean. I don't know if I will re-purchase this as after using it a couple of times in a row my hair is getting tangled and has alot of build-up? So I use this more as a 'treatment' shampoo'. This just feels like it repaired my hair. I might repurchase if I haven't found the perfect shampoo yet.

I had thick, long, blue-black hair and recently i decided to lighten it up. Bleach and lighteners damaged the hair and without THIS shampoo I would be a dry, damaged, frizzy, flyaway mess! Forget that the bottle is shaped weird or that it smells good but not delicious or that the name doesn't do it justice what really matters about this shampoo is how it makes your hair look and feel. It made my hair as soft as a baby's, no dryness or frizziness. Redken Real Control made it shiny and manageable with absolutely no greasiness (my scalp tends to oil up only the roots after a day or two with most shampoos) , it even gave me something extra; VOLUME! Yes the nice smell doesn't last too long but this is like taking your hair to the spa; its hair therapy! If it made my hair perfect (which before it was faaaar from it) it can make yours too! Trust me on this, its worth the money. [[After shampooing, I used the Redken Real Control Intense Renewal Super Moisturizing Mask]]

I bought a trial size and no complaints. I have dry, frizzy, heavily highlighted hair that gets straightened. Did not leave my hair feeling heavy or gunky but it was heavy in the scent. I usually use Redkin All Soft and this I thought was a heavier version of that. I will probably rotate b/w the two because this may be little too much of a good thing. My big complaint it the name - I must have passed it up a million times at Ulta based on the name. to me at least the name does not match the description of this product. Edit: I had to rotate this out. It's a little heavy for summer. May go back to a trial size to rotate in the winter.

I can't praise this shampoo and conditioner more highly.
All my life I have had frizzy, dry, strong and coarse hair, many flyaways, its very thick and unmanageable and generally 'boofy'. I'd given up on finding a HG s&c combo after trying Matrix, L'Oreal Expert, KMS, Joico and many other brands with lines specially designed to tame frizzy coarse hair. I had some success but it never sustained itself; eventually after a few weeks it would stop working, i'd get buildup and my usually non-greasy dry hair would go oily. Also the success I did have was just cosmetic - on the shorter term my hair was softer and shinier, but it was never like it was treating it.
So I got Real Control as a last resort, thinking it would follow the same path but was astounded by the results. I swear to god that it worked after ONE wash, my hair was soft, shiny, frizziness was reduced and it was very clean. And it gets better - i've been using it now constantly for six months and my hair is in better condition than it has ever been. Its like over time my hair has been treated and it literally has been controlled by finally finding the right products. My hairdresser is stunned.
I'll keep using it - I hope my hair doesn't get used to it like it has with other products. If so, I am such a convert that I will simply switch to something else for a month or two then go back to Real Control.
Seriously - all those with boofy thick coarse hair who have given up on finding a good s&c, try it.

I absolutely love this line. I bought the holiday gift set at Ulta that includes a shampoo, conditioner and trial size mask. I have extremely dry natural 4a/b hair that I wear flat-ironed. Before using this shampoo I had yet to find a shampoo that felt like conditioner was being rinsed out. My hair was so moisturized after using it I was shocked. I could run my finger through my kinks easily. Of course the true test is after my hair is dried and styled, and yes my hair was incredible soft then. I think this line was created exactly for people like me, dry desensitize (especially from all the heat) hair.

I am transitioning back to natural (fine, thin, wavy, 2b/3a) from being Japanese straightened 9 months ago. So my hair has been brittle, dry, and very tangled. I recently did a BC to get most of the TR'ed hair off, but still sport a fair amount of it. I don't shampoo every wash, but I am of the mindset that most shampoos do the same thing for me and feel the same. I didn't know what I was missing until I tried this shampoo at my in laws house a few weeks back! This shampoo left both my natural and TR'ed hair softer than any other shampoo I've tried, even natural and organic shampoos that are supposedly better. Needless to say as soon as I got back from their house I went out and purchased this!
My only complaint is the shape of the bottle- it's slipped out of my hands every time I have used it in the shower because of it's narrowed top and wide bottom lend it to being slippery. Perhaps that's just me being my clutzy self! I could not recommend this product enough! I have found my HG shampoo!
