This grey color is a softer grey than that of Industry. I'd call this a daytime grey. If you want a nighttime grey, use Industry. You can build the intensity of this color. It can go from a soft light/medium grey to a deep medium grey if you layer some. Application is smooth and even. I love it! :)

I am a blue eyed NW10 (NW20 when tanning from a bottle).

I don't find the matte-ness of this product shade to be as flattering as my Cover Girl Liquiline in Silver Spark (SAME EXACT gray, except with silver glitter in it, adding a metallic sheen). Will add to my swap pile, as I personally don't find enough uses for a medium cool toned gray liner as to justify keeping two.

This has been my *go to* colour for the past year. I wear it every other day as it takes seconds to apply and can be worn smudged, on the waterline or as a smooth line. I'm surprised this doesn't have better ratings. The price is high which sucks but if I were to find this exact liner at a drugstore price ($6-$11), I would rather stick to that as it isn't that unique of a colour to justify the price. However, that being said, I would say that 75% of the time when I go for the drugstore dupe of a product I love, it ends up not being the same and then I have to go buy the original so I wasted money purchasing the supposed dupe. MAC eyeliners are great in that they do not dry out unlike many drugstore brands. This pencil doesn't tug and stays put all day. I love the colour and find it the perfect shade for me - I have blue eyes and didn't find that it was a navy blue like another reviewer - it was a perfect flat medium grey. I see that "Industry" eye pencil by MAC gets much higher ratings so I will check that out next time but I am quite happy with this liner and would repurchase for sure.

I AM not a grey eyeshadow person. BUT this is a great alternative to black liner!! Brown tends too look a little too warm/reddish around my eyes, so this grey gives me a less intense look than black, but none of the warmth of a brown. Perfect! I use this to softy define my lower lash line, and sometimes on my upper lashline (instead of my normal blakc liquid/gel) for a very soft look. As all Powerpoints, once this sets, it lasts all day without smearing or transfering.

Loved it at first..... wonderful, versatile colour. After a couple of weeks it became dry and difficult to apply. It doesn't smudge, though, which is a plus.

This was the first grey eyeliner I every purchased, being a lifetime brown eyeliner gal. At first I did not like the color on me, it is a flat grey with a bit of a blue undertone to it. I decided to try it a few days before making up my mind to keep it or not. It turned out to be a keeper! The color is beautiful for green/blue eyes like mine, it looks very natural and makes my upper lashline pop! I use it only on my upper lashes so I can't say how well it stays on the waterline. I recommend this to anyone who wants to make their eyes pop while keeping a natural look. It does not smudge on me or fade too terribly after being on all day. I do use a primer and eyeshadow under it (for reference). My HG grey eyeliner.

Super colour - I love grey eyeliner and this is the perfect grey. Softer than black but still punchy.

Goes on very smooth and stays put fairly well - although smudges a bit (but not that much, esp compared to my previous grey Personnel pencil).

But I am shocked at how quickly it's getting used up. My previous Personnel pencil was as soft but lasted me must longer (and was much much cheaper). So not sure about value for money. Which is why I'm taking a lippie.

It doesn't sting my eyes (and I have very sensitive eyes) and comes off rather easily with my gel eye make-up remover.

Would buy again - great colour, doesn't pull, comes off easily. Yeah! :)

Really nice color. It's the perfect color for blue eyes. It's a nice, I guess neutral shade; it's not harsh, but it's just dark enough to complement my eyes. It lasts pretty well all day, too.

I love Grey Utility for its color (a neutral medium grey) and ease of use -- this thing seriously glides on like a liquid liner! This has been a wonderful replacement of MAC lithograph fluidline, which was sadly limited edition. The staying power is also very good, and I find it the perfect alternative to your basic brown or black eyeliner. It is a bit expensive considering HOW QUICKLY it runs out -- because it is so soft, you'll have to sharpen it pretty often if you want to maintain a sharp point. Also, it is one of the few MAC items that aren't B2M-able. For those two reasons, I'm dropping it to 4 lippies instead of 5. When I can find a grey eyeliner that is this easy to use in the drugstore, I'll switch, but until then I'm sticking to this one.

I always feel too over done when i wear black eye liner during the day because of my fair complexion and hair. I used to swear by estee lauder navy blue liner but felt i wanted a change and the SA recommended the grey. It looks SO fabulous with blue eyes and a lovely subtle colour for daytime. The consistency is nice and smooth and can also be built up for a more dramatic effect as well. I'm really happy with this and think it is perfect for anyone who can't quite muster the jet black.

Well my main problems with Grey Utility is that it changes colors on my lids! On my hand, at the store, I swiped it and it was a nice flat grey color. I was looking for a grey and so I took it home...Only to find that it turned navy blue on my lids! Not even a hint of grey! Completely a different color than on my hand. I even swiped it again on my hand at home to see if it was just the lighting.
Apparently this color change didn't happen to the other reviewers on here, but I just wanted to give a heads up to other girls on here, you might want to try this on at the store first to make sure it stays grey on you. I'm going to return it to Mac and see if I can find a true grey for me. 3 stars for the powerpoint though- Smooth, easy to apply, doesn't smudge very much, no tugging, easy to sharpen!

This is the VERY BEST Grey eyeliner I have ever encountered (and I've been wearing MU for a loooooong time now!). I have fair skin, blue eyes, sensitive skin, and am very picky and demanding about eyeliners.
This eye liner goes on easily and does not budge until you choose to take it off.
The colour is SO flattering. It is my everday eyeliner. never ever fails me or an outfit or a time of day. A true best buy can't live without it item.
Lasts a long time. Doesn't get icky on the end.
If you only have one grey eyeliner, get this one. It's fabulous!
And if you like to pair liquid eyeliners on the bottom, get MAC Disc or Sephora grey to go with it. Gorgeous!
YES i recommend this product. YES i repurchase, time and again. Best eyeliner out there.

So i am a fan of powerpoint pencils. I use to be a pure liquid or creme eyeliner gal but i converted to pencils! and i really like this color. Great for a day time look when you dont want to look like you have too much makeup on. Great matte color. No glitters fuss or must. Would definately recommend for daytime look. Looking for something more dramatic try other grey alternatives..and didnt change to a different color (ie. blue, green) on my skin like other pencils..recommend!

I use this light-charcoal-colored eyeliner as my daytime liner, since it's less harsh than black. It makes my blue eyes seem more vivid and is flattering to my complexion. I agree that it's good for business attire since it doesn't have any glitter or shimmer in it. Also, it goes on easily with a good color pay-off, stays put all day without smudging (on both lower and upper eyelids), and is definitely water-proof. It doesn't always stay on my water-line very well, though. This liner is good for when you want people to notice your eyes but not notice your makeup (when I wear it, I get a lot of "you look nice today. Did you cut your hair or something?"). Definitely a staple in my eyeliner collection. I'll re-purchase it when it runs out.

Love this! I am blond with fair skin, so Grey Utility is my alternative to black eyeliner since black is too harsh. The grey has a blue undertone, which I love. It is a flat grey with no shimmer or sparkle, but the hint of blue just makes it perfect IMO.

Grey Utility became one of my HG eyeliners within one week of using it, and it has maintained that status to this day. The color is a medium grey, lighter than charcoal but darker than dove grey. It's slightly cool toned, but also neutral enough to flatter any skin tone (including very warm skin tones like mine). The finish of Grey Utility is a smooth matte (not dry or chalky, no shimmer, no glitter, no pearl) that is perfect for every day use. My favorite thing about this eyeliner is that blends into the lash line sooo well that it gives off the illusion that you're not even wearing eyeliner. Sometimes i even wear this without mascara because it looks so natural. And because it's a MAC Powerpoint, it goes on without dragging or pulling and stays on amazingly well, even in the water line.

Grey Utility is a basic grey eyeliner that doesn't have much to distinguish it from other grey eyeliners besides the fact that it is a powerpoint. If you have tried the powerpoint e/l pencils and love them and are looking for a basic flat grey liner then I would recommend this one. My only problem with it was that I found it difficult to smudge...every time I tried to I felt as if I was wiping all of it off. I haven't had this problem with all of my powerpoints, just with Grey Utility...so I am not quite sure what to make of it. Other than that, it serves its function as a grey liner and is a powerpoint (which are my favorite e/l formula by mac). If you do not particularly necessitate either of these things though, you may be able to find a better e/l elsewhere at a better price.

The texture of Powerpoint is my absolute favorite of all my eyeliners, and I have numerous MAC Eye Kohls and Kohl Powers. It applies very very smoothly, no tugging at all. It smudges well right after application, but when it dries it doesn't budge! I can line the waterline without it migrating down my lower eyelid. And it doesn't smudge at the outer corners of my upper eyelid like most pencil liners do. The color is alright-- medium flat blue-gray. I wanted something that wouldn't be as dramatic as black for day, but I think it looks a little dull with my brown eyes. It would great with blue eyes, though. The only reason I wouldn't buy this again is its color, but I do want to try Permaplum (dark plum), Prussian (navy) and Engraved (black) Powerpoints.

This is a good, basic, flat gray liner. I got it because the SA said it matched the color in a pic I was trying to recreate and it is a nice blue-gray, medium toned liner and it does last ALL day long. But it doesn't smudge like I wish it would and I think it's such a basic color you could get the same thing in a drugststore for half the cost.
