This is my favorite cleanser out there right now. I've been using it for months and its gentle enough for my sensitive skin and eczema, but effective enough to handle my breakouts. It's not a miracle worker (what is?) but it's a great product and a great value. I've tried all kinds of things from the cheapest drugstore cleansers to La Mer and I like this one the best!

Hands down the best cleanser I've ever used. Simply (and eloquently) put: there's no shit in it, just what you need to clean your face without SLS. It's a clear gel that lathers up nicely without drying my face out one bit, and I have sensitive skin. The smell is "sterile". I only use one pump of this instead of two; I find two pumps of cleanser to be too much and a waste of product. FYI: this is not a make up remover, you will need to buy a separate product. If you're looking for a cleanser that will wash the day off and won't dry out your skin, this is 100% a HG product.

This does a good job removing makeup and making my skin clean, but it's kind of boring. I guess it's similar to Cetaphil, Neutragena ultra gentle, or Olay sensitive skin foaming. It's not special enough to order over and over. The price is great, and I will keep ordering the treatment and AHA.

This is a great cleanser that is comparable to other gentle cleansers such as Cetaphil, Cerave, and Basic. It is great to use if you are applying topical creams and gels because it is gentle on the skin and will not cause additional dryness. Acne.org's cleanser is expensive but well worth if you are looking for a cleanser that removes makeup, cleanses, and hydrates skin.

I love the acne.org system. I got this to go alone with it but its nothing special. I will repurchase because the price is great for all the product you get. Works ok on my sensitive skin. Doesn't cause me to break out. I have to lather up twice if I have make up on.
It's a less expensive dupe for cleataphil oily skin formula.
Nothing bad, but nothing really good about it. I wouldn't get this without the other acne.org products. It's just soap.

I'd ordered the treatment gel from Acne.org several months ago. Instead they sent me the wrong thing. I told them so, and they merely refunded my card.
So, I had a brand new bottle of this cleanser sitting around. Previously I had been using Simple Kind to Skin Refreshing Cleansing Gel, and had started to get bad pimples. I realized that Simple was leaving some kind of film on my skin.
I thought I'd try the Acne.org cleanser.
It's pretty good. My skin is highly reactive and if something bothers it it's immediate: hives, redness and itchiness. This cleanser did not cause me any problems. I was fairly surprised because I am reactive to glycerin when it is high up on the ingredient list.
Acne.org's cleanser is colorless, fragrance free and truly non irritating. Like I'd said it's a pretty good cleanser, but nothing special. At 35 years old I am looking for a "wow"cleanser; one that makes my skin fresh and bright. While a younger person might be thrilled with this cleanser I was simply underwhelmed.
However, if it were available in Canada, if I did not have to buy it online and pay shipping I am pretty sure I'd buy this cleanser because I don't react to it, but it is a little drying. That said, it did clean up the mess that Simple had left behind.
But I am moving on.

Coming from a girl who went on Accutane twice, Differin, antibiotics, and any other acne treatment you could possibly think of, I would say this product has definitely helped me maintain relatively clear skin after my teens. I've tried using other gentle cleansers i.e. Cetaphil, but none has been as gentle as the cleanser from Acne.org. I buy this product in bulk!
Yes, the packaging is simple-- I like that it is. All it takes is one pump of the cleanser each use. It's clear, looks clean, and is unscented. Dan provides you with a list of all the ingredients in the cleanser so there are no surprises. I've been using this cleanser for the past three years and have absolutely no complaints.
Though I have ventured off to other moistruizers/treatments for my face, I cannot imagine my life without this cleanser! Seriously, if you haven't tried this product before, I suggest you do!

Please look at reviews and research this product before buying, because I made this mistake:
I didn't realize that this was just a basic cleanser and would actually do nothing for acne. In order to get super clear skin or whatever you need to purchase the entire Acne.org kit. I haven't purchased it but I heard it works well on most people. So, if you're gonna buy this cleanser alone to clear your acne, don't. It won't work.

Gentle, effective cleanser that goes with the acne.org regimen. The regimen is a must have if you are struggling with acne!
At 40 years old I started having severe cystic breakouts along my jawline, the side of my cheeks and occasionally around my mouth.
After googling 'acne' a million times trying to find answers, I clicked on this site that kept coming up and started reading. I was skeptical, but had nothing to lose. If I had before and after photos to show I would! This has been a miracle really, I am so grateful to Dan.
I have never written a review on anything, but I feel this is so important! The regimen works!

This is one of my HGs. I've used this cleanser (in rotation with PC One-Step, now Moisture Boost Cleanser) for about 5 years. It thoroughly cleanses my skin, but is gentle--and contains none of the allergens that trigger my skin issues. Every time I try something else, I get rashes and breakouts. This cleanser is simple, relatively affordable, and never does me wrong. I don't use this in the context of the "acne.org system". I have oily skin (at times extremely oily skin) and I use Retin A and AHA/BHAs. I have backups of this cleanser, and will use is as long as it's made.

I am completely in love with the acne.org regimen, which includes this (the cleanser), the treatment, and the moisturizer. The complete regimen has saved my skin from breaking out again into the horrible acne I had before (read my review on Tazorac which saved my skin in the first place). This cleanser is very gentle and has no noticeable scent for me. It latters up really good and cleanses my face completely. It can be a bit drying but then again I have very dry skin to begin with. It is no miracle product since it is just a basic, gentle cleanser, however along with the rest of the regimen it is amazing for my skin. Have purchased three times now along with the regimen and would definitely recommend!

There's something in this that I'm allergic to, I'm sure of it. Which is ironic, because it's supposed to be so gentle. I like the treatment and moisturizer from the regimen, but I won't be repurchasing this and suspect it's why I've felt like the entire regimen doesn't work as well as it claims. When I use the treatment with a cream-based cleanser, I get decent results, but not when I return to this cleanser. I get really red, irritated, overly-dry, itchy skin that actually breaks out MORE.

My HG Cleanser! I discovered this cleanser when I decided to try the acne.org regimen.
Although the regimen wasn't for me (my skin is way too sensitive and it was way too time consuming and depressing to keep up with it, especially that I was not seeing any real imporvements) I discovered this amazing cleanser. I have stopped the regimen, but I have kept on using the cleanser and have repurchased over and over. I now buy bulk quantities of this to ensure I never run out (last order was for 12 bottles!)
Why is it amazing? It is the only cleanser that has not aggravated or dried up my extremely oily, acne prone skin. The reason why my skin got so out of control was due to stopping the pill Diane 35. Before taking Diane 35 I had great skin, I was on this drug for 7 years and after stopping it, my skin has been a total mess, it's been over a year since I've stopped *sigh*
Anyway, the acne.org cleanser is just a basic high quality cleanser that doesn't contain any of the useless ingredients found in so many products on the market. For example, it is fragrance-free. If your skin is very senstive and acne prone, the last thing you want to use is something that contains tons of useless ingredients just to make the product more marketable.
This cleanser does what it promises, it gently washes your skin without overdrying or making it worse.
Will it resolve your acne problems alone? Probably not, but it will not make things worse, like so many products I've tried that promise to clear your skin and end up aggravating the situation instead.

I am on my third big bottle and let me tell you it has taken off those pesky little bumps(not zits or pimples) that I had on my arms and my face feels great! I am a lifelong customer this is the best cleanser I have used baby shampoo, carley acne products, axsepsia and a myriad of other acne products and this beats them all by a looooong shot.

out of the whole system this is the only thing i didnt like and would never repurchase....It made my skin super dry and flaky and i had to switch to a more sensative skin formula soap ....now i use the Clean & Clear Oil-Free Foaming Facial Cleanser for Sensitive Skin and it completely changed the dryness of my skin....this cleanser wasnt helping since the treatment is drying enough

I've been using this cleanser along with the treatment gel for the past 6 years. It is the only thing that has ever, and I mean ever, gotten my skin clear. Sometimes I get fussy about having to pay the higher than normal shipping prices and try to switch to a drugstore cleanser only to break out again. This cleanser is very mild, lathers and rinses nicely, and the packaging is about as good as it gets. If you are not familiar with Daniel Kern's acne.org treatment regime, do go check it out. You must be gentle with your skin in order for it to clear up. I have proven this to myself time and time again when I follow this regime vs. when I don't. Overall, this is my HG cleanser and one I will always repurchase.

This is a very mild cleanser.
It's exactly alike to the cetaphil cleanser.
This cleanser is great and gentle, but so gentle that you definitley need to use a makeup cleanser first.
What i use to wash off makeup is a knock off clarisonic brush. It's just a giant toothbrush that spins around that i got at walmart for 10 bucks and really gets down to my pores.
If you don't feel like ordering online just go to your local drug store and buy the cetaphil cleanser!
I got the biggest bottle and it had lasted me for 6 months and still have a little (use it twice every day except one night where I like to use an exfoliating cleanser)
Price wasn't bad but it was pricey due to shipping in Toronto :(
Overall, a very nice and gentle cleanser!

I have mild-to-moderate acne depending on my diet and what products I use. I also have very sensitive skin in general and everything seems to clog my pores, so if I find something that keeps me clear I'm pretty loyal to it. This cleanser is my HG because it cleared acne I had and prevented clogged pores. It's mild but cleans well and doesn't have a strong scent (which I'm also sensitive to).
The 16 oz. bottles is only $9.50 and I pay about $6-7 on shipping. I don't like paying for shipping, but when I tried to save money by buying a cleanser at the drugstore I ended up breaking out again. So now I'm back to what works.

This is a great basic cleanser. It's very mild and the cleanser itself does not leave your face tight or dry after washing (it's more the BP). I agree with some of the reviewers that it doesn't seem to treat the acne (that's step 2's job, again, BP). But it's a good cleanser if you have sensitive skin. I used it (and the regimen) for about 5 months before my skin started to clear up, I've since strayed from this and have been hopping around the market. The high shipping cost is what is deterring me from going back to it but it's worth a shot if you're looking to try a gentle cleanser or checking out the acne.org line in general.

NC25 Chinese, oily acne prone skin living in AZ's dry desert climate.
3/22/13 UPDATE: After having gone thru near 2 bottles of this, I used this as a double cleanse in the shower after some kind of makeup oil remover (Fancl, Boscia or jojoba oil). Always still found some makeup residue during my tone routine, so it was really good.. but still not perfect. I've just done a test w/ uber gentle Paula Choice's Skin Balancing cleanser, and it removes makeup and leaves my toner pad pretty clean. So Acne.org still is great and had a place in my heart and still would recommend for others as part of the total regimen, but for my waterproof sunscreen and heavier foundations, I'm ready to move onto PC (and probably also remove the makeup oil remove part too).
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
From most to least stripping:
Avene Cleanance > LRP Effaclar > Acne.org cleanser
I live in a dry, dry, dry climate, so after double cleansing (either w/ oil pre-shower but always 2x beginning and ending in the shower), I immediately can tell how stripped my skin might feel when I exit the shower since we have no humidity in AZ.
Acne.org cleanser is the most gentle and effectively removes make up (if you count the oil cleanse plus the 2x in the shower)... it will remove regular mascara just fine and not completely for waterproof (nor do I use eye makeup remover).
