This product is the absolute best for lining the waterline, allowing you to do the upper & lower at the same time if done right. I have tried every eyeliner there is to line my inner rims & none lasted more than an hour or two & most smudged all over. This product has instructions for both Eastern & Western methods, but it is truly made for Eastern as the applicator shows. I hold it horizontally on my bottom waterline then close my eye and pull the wand across. Voila! Perfectly lined, no fallout and my rims stay lined perfectly until it's removed! Never a hint of smudge or bleeding. The odd small speck occurs in my eye but disappears with a blink or two. To all of those who complained about the applicator, fallout, etc please watch the video & use the product the way it's obviously made to be used. The applicator is perfect for this & the application will be perfect. For outside the eye Dior makes a wonderful creamy pencil liner that smudges & is made to rim outside.
I have been using this product since finding it in Spain years ago. I tried it the wrong way (on the outer rims) & hated it so put it aside. I had the same opinion as a lot of these reviews. Then I saw the video & now cannot live without this product!! When I think of all the money & time I spent looking for the perfect inner rim liner...well that makes this worth every penny! There will most likely be people with issues doing the Eastern method. But it took trying it twice & I had it down! So before harshly reviewing I would recommend trying the product the way it was made to be used...again it is very evident by the applicator!! I'm sorry if you don't love my review but I have been on both sides, so I can be very strong about my opinion.
Something that may help: shake the powder up well before use, and yes tapping the wand very lightly just as you are about to remove it will take off any tiny excess amounts. The container is actually designed to scrape off the excess & leave the perfect amount for lining the eye.
My opinion was not meant to offend but it's an amazing product if used correctly & seeing reviews bashing it when it was being used incorrectly just bothered me.
I currently have Secret Glow, Brun Dore and Oriental Metal. I had the regular Brun but gave it away before learning how to use it the right way!!
Oh and almost all of the colors are Limited Editions....

It's sad how many people apply kohls all wrong and then get frustrated over the fact that they don't do what they expect - it's like using cream blush on your lips... you CAN do it, and it MAY work, but getting upset if it doesn't perform as well as a lipstick is unreasonable.

Oriental Metal is the most beautiful and most perfect eyeliner I have ever used - in fact it's the only thing aside from a white or flesh-tone that I can use on my lower waterline that won't make me look awkward. It's a subtly metallic cool grey brown that doesn't run too dark. Applies well and lasts, lasts and lasts - out of all the make up I own this may be the one thing I would deem irreplaceable.

I do not understand why so many good reviews. I bought one of these as the package looked amazing and I thought maybe the product would be too. Colour was very nice but it did not last in my eyelids for more than a few minutes (even when applied over my Urban Decay primer potion). Also the line was not precise as the wand is so stiff and impossible to blend..anyway, as I said it didn´t last so my eyelid was completely dirty after few minutes.. Thumbs down.

Would I buy it again? Yes! If I could shell out another 33euros for the second flacon, which is still sitting pretty in my local Sephora.
Ok, here it goes: This is by far the most flattering and easy to apply eyeliner I ever came across, meaning, I shall never use anything else. HG material. I still have to perfect the application, but for a person that was not applying makeup in the past 10 years except for lipstick (watery oversensitive eyes, oily lids, managed to poke the eye with mascara brush... get the picture?), this is a godsend. Stays put on the waterline. And the colour... perfect for my everchanging blue/green eyes and looks great paired with Shiseido' eyeshadow in Spring Plum (HG) which does not crease at all, and some black mascara (still searching...). The flacon is plastic and looks tacky to me, so here goes a thumbs down to Guerlain for that, and another for making Oriental Metal a LE.

I have mixed reviews on this. I dont hate it, but I also dont love it as well. The application gets messy and it doesnt give a define line, like other eyeliner would, but it is one of those must use product for smokey eyes, therefore a must have!
I only use this on my lower lash line and I usually smudge it out for late lower smokey effect. A little goes a long way with this product. The packaging it very unique, especially for a high end product.
This is very expensive, but you usually get a lot in one vial.

LOVE this! I use it to line the outside of my eye (ie not in the "Eastern" way which I find closes my eye in just a little bit). It gives such a lovely natural look, but not as if you don't have make up on. You just look really polished and pretty :) This shade (Oriental Metal) is gorgeous against my hazel eyes. I find application incredibly quick, easy and precise. I don't get much fall out at all. I do have very long lashes, so perhaps the fallout gets caught on my lashes and I don't notice it? Anyway, I just lay the wand flat along my lid at the base of my lashes and swipe to the outer corner. Perfect line every time which doesn't need blending. It's not harsh at all, yet not too soft so it loses it's precision. You can tell it's there, but it's not screaming out "I'm wearing eyeliner!". It's perfect for me because I don't like to look made up at all (it's not flattering when you start to get wrinkles!). I also notice the subtle shimmer in this colour and I LOVE it. Others have said it, but I'll say again, the packaging is gorgeous and my husband actually thought it was a pendant I'd bought! I will definitely buy again and am looking at getting it in other shades (WISH they had a purple shade!!).

This product delivers a truly stunning effect on my eyes. Somehow subtle and dramatic at the same time, that's fine by me, I love the captivating result. It is neutral but also has depth and an almost prismatic effect. I swear people look at me like they're trying to figure something out. My sister just asked, or rather, said something was different. I told her it was my eyeliner, she ran out and bought this.
The application can take a little practice and in the beginning there was beaucoup fallout, but after a few applications I got the hang of it.
Love Love Love this product. I bat my lashes and bow down to the beauty of Guerlain.

Reviewers calling this "unique" and "innovative" should check out the museums in Turkey. Ask to see the "kohl display." This stuff's been around for centuries, and in prettier containers too.
.
Anyway the colour is really pretty and it's definitely worth checking out! <3 This colour is the exact colour of the herbal Ithmad Surma/Kohl which my gran uses {and it's way cheaper}. But it's hard to find, so this is the next best option.

My favorite eye liner! Yes, it can be messy at times, but the results are well worth the effort. It is not too hard to draw a line on my upper lash line in a neat way. For someone who has a hard time to find a lasting eye liner, this was awesome. It stays... stays... and stays, and accentuates the shape of my eyes perfectly, giving them an intense and mysterious look...
As for the shade, it has been described already, so I do not attempt to repeat the process. It's perfect for a neutral warm like me. Browns tend to look sickly red on me, but this is classy, elegant and neutral enough. Lovely taupe with an understated shimmer.
The vial is likely to last for a long time, so I won't purchase in the near future... Altough maybe I should stock it up before it becomes one of those coveted collector's items that cost a fortune on eBay.

Nice light taupe with shimmer. Pulls purple against my skin and can accentuate my dark circles though. Too light for my tone, perhaps better for a pale blonde with cooler undertones. I have to reapply this every 2 hours or so just because its so light as soon as it fades it nearly disappears. Another Guerlain kohl I had to add black e/s powder to intensify. Now it's a charcoal gray taupe purple if that makes sense. Product itself is better IMO than the Brun kohl simply because this along with the Noir are a shimmer as opposed to a glitter. I like the shimmer formula, and LOVE the concept of application, but not the ideal shade I was seeking. Would not repurchase.

Great product - at least the actual powder insde the container. But I find the container and the applicator rubbish, so emptied the powder out into a small e/s container w/ a lid.
I'm not a fan of the oriental kohl look, as I think it is too dramatic for my tastes, but the quality of the powder kohl is epic, so I don't want to miss out on the product, I just use it my own way. I simply apply it on my upper lash line w/ an angled liner brush for a subtle daytime look, and it works great. Doesn't budge the whole day until I remove it.

I have been wanting this a long time and it's almost what I was hoping for. The color is very subtle on me and I don't think it does much for my eye color like the black seems to do. I do like that it is smoky but not overwhelming and appropriate for any occasion. It's also ok to wear with a darker lip look on me without looking to heavy. There is less fallout from this one. My biggest complaint is it sometimes feels gritty. Other then that I really like the product!

Oriental Metal is the most subtle of all the Guerlain Kohl. It's a softened dark grey colour and looks beautiful even for day at the office -- not too dramatic. Love the ways it melt and doesn't give you a harsh lined look and is perfect for a soft smocky look.

This one seems to have the least fallout imo (I have Bleu, Brown, Black and Oriental Metal and Oriental Bronze). I wear it eastern and usually slide the stick along the top of my upper lashes too as this balances out my eyes. I love the wand application -- super easy and fast. The colour on my waterline lasts the whole day at the office for me too.

I absolutely love this product. It takes some time and practice to learn how to apply it but it’s so worth it. This kohl makes my eyes look so incredible: it brings out the color and accentuates the darker rims of the irises.
The color is just great for me. I also have the Oriental Bronze but this one is a bit too dark.
It has a great staying power. It stays on all day long with the exception of the outer corner of lower lids.
I think it’s sold out LE but I was able to purchase it at the airport duty free store.

This eyeliner is amazing. Its a beautiful silvery taupe that opens up my eyes and complements my skin beautifully. I don't expect it to completely define my eyes because it's too light so i always line my upper lashline with black liner. I use it more as an accent and it is perfect with taupe looks. I love pairing it best with my Shu ME brown 850 or ME silver 945 shadows. Of the 6 i own, its definitely my favorite and I reach for it very often.

After reading the reviews I decided to buy this on ebay, not having tested the shade.
The descriptions are accurate, and it's a very good color for pale people that don't want the harsh look of black kohl.
Applying it oriental style was easy after watching the tutorial on youtube and a couple of tries. No fallout, not even as much automatic smudging as I was hoping for, I run the applicator under the bottom lashes afterwards to soften the look.
Even this color that is pretty light looks very dark on me, especially when adding mascara. I would actually like something even lighter fro everyday wear, but then I am nearing 40 and dark eye makeup is looking harsher during the day.
I would buy it again, but it seems like it will last a long time, not much powder is used for each application.

My absolutely all time favorite liner!! The color is a silvery taupe and is absolutely gorgeous with all different shadow colors. When I am going for more of a natural eye look I like to use this, it gives a smudgy liner look but more softer than black. It is pretty easy to apply, I use the eastern method and this color doesn't have much fall out (another plus!), it lines perfectly! I will definitely be buying this again and again!
I'm lm nude in tm and tender rose in mmu for reference

edit: I purchased a back up in this! I had to, I was so worried I would run out and not be able to find it anywhere. It is worth the price!

I've been using this with a wash of taupe shadow, such as Bobbi Brown Ash, or Velvet Mauve for a natural look and also with smokey looks using BB Charcoal shadow and Stila Onyx liner smudged in the lash line. I love using it in the waterline with smokey looks because it gives a dramatic look without making eyes look smaller.

I was facinated by this concept of lining the eyes. I also loved the packaging, so I tried it. It did not take me long to love this. After one or two uses I had all the practice I needed. It's so super quick to apply. Love it.

This is an amazing kohl!! It has such a great staying power- normally if I wear any type of kajal/surma in my eyes, it gets all other the place within a few hours. This kohl lasts a long time before it starts smuging (not to say that it does not smuge). Also, the color is very beautiful. I have dark brown eyes and medium-tan skin tone (Mac C-4) and this color really brings out my eyes. I really like it because it is more subtle than the darker alternatives.

This is my fourth review for the Guerlain Loose Kohl products (for each colour one) and for the most part it will be a copy of the other 3. I LOVE KOHLS. PERIOD. That's where my review can end, but I do think the product deserves a few more accolades :-) I started using Kohls about a year ago. I started with Blue first (posted a review), then Noir (which is my favourite of all, posted a similar review), then Brun (loving it!) and I also most recently bought the Oriental Metal (which I think might be discontiuned now but I was able to find it in Shoppers in Canada). Kohls have become my HG eye makeup ever since I discovered them and although I technically prefer the Noir the most, I just love them all. I am one of those people who have to be REALLY careful with coloured eye makeup due to allergies... Well, tried and tested - no allegies or any irritations with Loose Kohls!!!! For all of you who have read my Blue, Noir and Brun reviews, this may be a repeat, but here is why I like Loose Kohls: 1) This has cut down the time for my eye makeup SIGNIFICANTLY. It now literally takes me max. 2 minutes to do my eyes (I am sure everyone has seen the video that circulates around on the best way to apply this the oriental way - thank you to the lady who did this!!!!) 2) I have ABOSLUTELY no allergic reaction to this 3) Eyes just look GORGEOUS with this and some mascara - better than with anything else: sultry, sexy, not overdone, yet noticeable 4) This lasts and lasts on my eyes, with maybe a minimal touch up before I leave from work at night (and only if I'm going out). In this regard, the Noir has the best staying power of all Kohls, but others are good, too. Is it difficult to apply? Maybe in the beginning, but it took me only 5 attempts and a watching of a video to become a pro at this. The key, in order to ensure no product falls onto your cheeks, is to TAP the excess product from the wand. As the wand gets wet from your waterline, it tends to accumulate a lot of product and that is what falls onto your cheeks. If you tap the excess (while the wand is still half-way in the bottle so you don't throw away product, or on a Kleenex if that doesn't work), you will have absolutely no problem with product falling onto your cheeks. In my other reviews I also mentioned that for those of you who bought this and aren't happy or can't do the oriental method, I suggest mixing the product with a drop of water and using it as a regular EXTREMELY longlasting eyeliner. Kohls would get 10 lippies for me if they were available :-) but I agree that there is a learning curve that needs to be overcome to learn how to use it. However, once you learn, I am sure you will love it more than anything else! As far as the colour is concerned, the Oriental Metal is a beautiful taupe, significantly less intense than the other three colours, but still noticeable enough. Perfect for fair ladies instead of darker colours, or for anyone on those days when you wear a strong lip, yet still want to subtly emphasize your eyes. Love it!
