Absolutely BEAUTIFUL color. it has a shimmer in it, it's like a deep charcoal grayish purplish blue. It's hard to explain but it's such a gorgeous color. Perfect for smokey eyes. LOVE LOVE LOVE

Alaska is a deep bluish purple grey- in the pot it looks blue-grey but once applied you can see the slight purple tone. It has a bit of shimmer, but its really not noticeable unless you are in direct light. The texture of this shadow is harder than other NYX shadows, which I don't like. I love NYX shadows because of their satiny texture and high pigmentation, but Alaska isn't as fun to apply since the texture is harder. Don't get me wrong, its still a beautiful shade and is easy to apply, but the texture's just not as luxurious as other shades. For this reason alone I probably would not buy it again. Gorgeous shade, though- great with other blues, greens, browns, greys, pinks...almost anything.

Pretty dark slightly shimmery charcoal with a midnight blue undertone in the light. Its better than straight up grey charcoal in my opinion

Nice shimmery charcoal. I can't discern any real blue or purple undertones - maybe different batches are slightly different? I use this for a smokey eye with NYX Grey. It blends really well, and isn't too soft like some NYX colors.

Beautiful color, accurately described by the other reviews: a plummy charcoal. Smooth texture and good blending, shimmery. Love it.

I love NYX, this is one of my favorite and most used from the brand, I donīt know how to describe it, itīs like a charcoal, but it has like blue or purple-ish undertones, I use it for softer smokey looks, and something I like about this shade is that it complements the color I use it with no matter which, I donīt know how to explain this, but itīs like it goes with every color I use it with.

Like all nyx shadows, it's creamy and smooth in texture, goes on well, has great pigmentation, and blends like a dream. Alaska is like a shimmery charcoal with some blue or plum in it. I love this color!

Based on the reviews I thought this would be a greyed down plummy color but it's really a shimmery charcoal with a hint of plum, no brown or blue. Not bad but not my cup of tea, think what I wanted was Odyssey...

This is a shimmery smokey plum purple that applies smoothly and blends great. I haven't worn purples of any form since the 1980's and was hesitant to revisit the color. This shadow is best described as a heathered plum and would look great on most ladies. I blend this at my lash line and carefully add a matte grey to make a smokey eye, the plum adds just enough color for visual interest and softness without looking hard. I have also used this as a liner and am quite happy although I find there is a tendency for color to transfer to my upper lid if I don't seal the powder adequately. This is my second NYX shadow purchase but not my last.

Really pretty! Shimmery purple-tinged charcoal/navy. Looks very dark grey in the pan, but the purple tones become much more visible on the eye, in a very flattering and unobtrusive way, whereas a lot of purple shadows are more make-upy, this is more subtle, and I think you could achieve a variety of looks with it. I've never used moth brown either, but this looks nothing like any moth I've seen, more like a butterfly actually, one of those really dark blue/purple ones. Also I thought that shadow had brown in it?

I'm told this is a Moth Brown dupe; I don't have Moth Brown so I can't comment. On me it's a dull, shimmery charcoal blue with a lot of purple. It's a beautiful colour, goes on smoothly and actually works with my very warm-toned PPP skin and green eyes. ETA 5/31/08: Can I just emphasize how much I LOVE this colour? It makes an awesome smoky eye.
