To be honest its not THAT bad, in fact I quite like it. This is one of the thing I'll swap and keep just for the packaging. I had Ruby one before and swapped away, now I have this one, and its a keeper. I use MAC 210 to apply, yes you might need a few more strokes than applying eyeliner gel, but the finishing result is comparable. Lasting power is not bad too, at least it did not smear.

I disagree with the previous reviews and must say this is an amazing color!
Yes its a technique that most people do not have the patients for. But if you are willing to take the time to learn you will reap the benefits!!! this is a beautiful color. It is not meant to wear heavy or cakey. you must be precise with this liner! I love the two tones it gives you when the light hits. For everyday wear its just a finishing touch! If you "tight line" LM eyeliner technique its just what the eye needs to look complete! If you want heavy eyeliner use LM pencils! this is not the product for the busy woman. It is for the woman who takes the time to appreciate her beauty and show everyone what she has to offer the world. If you want your eyes to be soft and bold at the same time i say grab this liner!!!!

Gorgeous colour. Rediculously hard to work with. It's thick, its lumpy, it takes time and effort and the metallic sheen does not show.

I'm going to corroborate the review before me. In the little nail-polish jar this comes in the eyeliner looks like a very pretty black with olive glimmer in it. But upon application I found that I couldn't get the shimmer to show up unless I applied it heavily, and then it got in my eyelashes and was a huge mess. I've tried all kinds of liner brushes and it seems that I have to apply very sparingly over a long period of time (to let it dry). If I have the time, this can be a very pretty eyeliner, but otherwise it is too time consuming. I was told when I returned it that Laura Mercier made these sheer on purpose, so I guess it does exactly what it was made to do. I, however, like my eyeliner to be a little more punchy.

First off, this is from the Seduction collection, and is LE. There are four liners: Onyx, cobalt, violette, and golden. Onyx has a black base with an olive colored sheen, which gives it a lot of dimension in the bottle, but isn't so apparent on the eye unless you apply it Amy Winehouse heavily or someone is very close.
This is very similar to NARS liquid eyeliners, with the same liquid gel consistency and bottle packaging. You don't get as much product as you do with NARS, nor do you get the silly brush. However, it applies much the same as a NARS liner - it's a bit messy unless you have the correct brush, and it tends to separate under the pressure of the brush when you line with it so that there are skin colored streaks in the line. I often have to go back and touch up the line to ensure an opaque line. Because it's so liquidy, it gets stuck on my eyelashes, killing the curl and causing clumps when I try to put on mascara.
As for the long wearing claim, I prefer gel eyeliners as I have very oily lids, and this was just as good. When I messed up during application, I actually found it very difficult to remove properly, much more so than a gel eyeliner.
Overall, I prefer a less liquid consistency if I have to use my own brush. It's a nice color, but it takes more time and perfecting than I am willing to give it.
