Review of L'Oreal True Match Super Blendable Compact Makeup by pmburk

I typically wear department store foundations - Laura Mercier, MAC, Julie Hewett, Lancome, etc. However, I'd heard such good raves from friends, and also knowing that Dita von Teese swears by this (she wears the liquid in N1), I just had to try it. Walgreen's was running a sale and I also had some coupons, so I bought the compact foundation in W1. I'm a natural auburn redhead with fair skin & freckles, golden undertones & brown eyes. I was skeptical about W1, because it actually looked a little dark in the compact, but the application sealed the deal. It applied as almost stark white, but blended beautifully and perfectly matches my skin. As in, this is probably the single best skin-matching foundation I have ever used in my entire life. It applied like a dream, contrary to other reviews. Now, when I use cream, liquid or mousse foundations, I always mist my skin with a product like Mac Fix+ or Julie Hewett rose water (for a cheapie try Elf mist & set), and use a cosmetic sponge dampened with the same product. I find that using this method (which was taught to me by a MAC makeup artist), my foundation blends much easier, lasts longer, and I get more sheer coverage. Especially if your skin is dry, I highly recommend trying that application method. I think this is very buildable, probably to medium-heavy coverage, especially if applied dry. I prefer a matte finish, so I top with Coty Airspun powder in translucent extra coverage. The result is perfect, flawless skin. Probably the most perfect foundation match I have ever worn. I will definitely repurchase this and plan on stocking up!

Edited 10/3/11: I tried applying this today with a completely dry sponge instead of my above-mentioned (usual) method, and it actually worked better! It applied evenly and blended beautifully, and wasn't at all cakey or heavy. Still very impressed with this foundation.

Edited 10/26: Still using this foundation daily and I am amazed. I apply dry with the sponge - one swipe on each cheek & my forehead, then blend. It blends beautifully and perfectly matches my skin tone. Topped with powder, it easily lasts all day with a flawless finish. This easily surpasses many more expensive foundations.
