Soft & Gentle is a permanent shade in MAC's Mineralize Skinfinish line. The current retail price is $30.
About Me: Fair with warm yellow undertones (about an NC18 right now, only quite a bit more yellow toned). Hazel eyes that look blue in daylight. Natural brunette currently dyed aubergine purple with a lot of deep red highlights.
Color: The main color is a light nude with subtle pink tones. About the same lightness as my skin tone, only cooler/pinker. Great color for highlighting fair to medium skin... or any skin tone really. There are also golden glitter veins running through the surface. When the pinky nude base color and the gold glitter veins are mixed together, they create a color that is fairly neutral... maybe slightly golden when on cheeks.
Finish: GOLD SPARKLES!!!! When I read that some felt Soft & Gentle was too sparkly, I figured "pssshhh, I own lots of MSFs and none of them are too sparkly for me. I'm sure S&G will be just like the rest". Well, I was wrong. This is far more sparkly than any other MSF I own (mind you... I don't own any other MSF in the regular line, but I do own a lot of LEs). The pinky nude base color is very shimmery, reflective, and fairly sparkly/glittery. The golden veins are mostly glitter and sparkle with very little pigmentation. When the base and the veins are mixed together, it creates an INTENSELY glittery look. If applying with a blush sized brush, there's really no way of getting the base color without the glitter veins. Definitely not to be worn anywhere except the cheekbones. I would only feel comfortable wearing this at a club or perhaps at Christmastime if I want something a little over the top.
Texture: Similar to any other MSF: Soft, but not too soft. Easy to apply, but needs a fairly light hand to avoid overdoing.
Wear Length: My only problem with MSFs in general.... 2 hours maximum with my regular application (on top of foundation and setting powder). However, if I mist my face with water or finishing spray after applying, I can get it to last up to 5 hours.
Bottom Line: SPARKLES!!! GLITTER!!! I love MSFs despite their comparatively poor wear time, but this one is just far too glittery for me. Wouldn't dream of repurchasing.
