The market is lately so glut with hyperbolic mascaras (from Diorshow to Phenomen'eyes) that grow ever gimmicky from launch to launch, that when I tried out Definicils, for the first time again in years, it was almost a shock: mascara that other people won't know you're wearing, can you believe it? The name says it all; it gives the lashes subtle definition, as if nature grew them minutely thicker, but without much change in terms of volume or length. This is probably the mascara for subtle polish if you like your lashes as they are. It does not smudge throughout the day, though not waterproof. The brush grabs and coats individual lashes more or less evenly, so the standard "wand wiggle" only promotes clumps. Because the formula is quite wet, it will flatten the curl on lashes, even when the brush is wiped clean and the product begins to dry; on lashes as flimsy as mine, I prefer the lighter weight Shiseido Perfect Mascara for a softer look, L'Oreal Voluminous for drama, Kiss Me Heroine Make Volume & Curl for feathery curls. No mascara counterfeits nature exactly, but Definicils is very nearly self-effacing: the lash equivalent to wearing a loose powder instead of foundation.
