Review of Revlon New Complexion One-Step Compact Makeup by christi4200
This is a decent, and I think it would work well on combination to oily skin. I've always loved cream foundations for their convenience & portability, the fact that they can be sheered out or easily built up for more coverage. I like that they're kinda like a concealer and foundation all in one.
I use this for my dark circles which are fairly bad, and the redness around my nose and chin, and any random spot or discoloration on my face. It does cover fairly well. I've never been one to wear foundation all over my face, I usually just spot conceal, so I need something that blends in really well with my skin and looks uber natural, being that I'm not putting it all over my face and blending it down my neck. This does blend in fairly well in the summer, but even the lightest shade is too dark in the winter.
Revlon DEF needs to come out with some lighter shades. I absolutely hate this about DS companies, they never have very pale (or very dark shades for that matter.) Everyone should be able to wear makeup, and it really sucks that some women can't even find their shade! I am not even THAT pale, and I still have a hard time with DS cosmetics. It must really, really suck for girls that are paler than me! That's why I generally go for HE, it's so much easier to find that perfect color match. But even some HE companies have a terrible shade selection. Lisa Eldridge just did a great video on foundations that work for very pale skin, if anyone is interested, u can go to lisaeldridge.com to watch it.
I'm NC15 and the lightest shade in this, Ivory Beige, is more of an NC20 or NC25,. If you're NC20 the lightest shade will probably be perfect for you. This foundation has this weird ability to kind of blend in with your skin and sort of adjust to your skin tone. Even when I was all fake tanned last week, I could wear this on my face and it looked fine, and I was probably NC30 then.
I am mostly a mid/high end makeup lover but there is def some DS makeup that I still like/love. This is one of those DS products that I always go back to. I don't love it, but I like it. I've never used it up, you get a lot of product, and the packaging is really great, it's a nice slim compact, with a separate compartment for the sponge. I just use my clean fingers to apply tho .
The only thing is, I have more normal to dry skin, and this is NOT great if your skin is very dry. It will accentuate dry patches, so I usually use a heavier moisturizer like Nivea Creme underneath on really dry days, and it's fine. That's why I said it would probably work better on more oily skin, because it's a creme to powder foundation with more of a matte finish. I do prefer more of a dewy finish, but in the places where I use this, like undereyes and around my nose, I don't care that it's not a dewy finish. Who wants to be dewy around their nose?
I don't see myself repurchasing this simply because I'm always looking for the next best thing. Ahhh, the perils of a makeup junkie! I did put yes I'd repurchase tho, because I didn't want to bring down the rating because it is a good product. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a good DS creme foundation/concealer. I recently got the fancypants Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua creme compact foundation as a gift, & even tho I have that, I still find myself reaching for this some days, so it must be pretty good! Sorry if this is too long. I tend to write very thorough reviews so that I can be helpful to others because I always turn to reviews on MUA to help me!
