I have been using this product since the 80's and I think it is the only reason why my hair has not fallen out! LOL! This product actually forms a web around each strand of hair. To test put a little between your hands and rub really quick the heat created will help form that web pull your hands apart and you will see the web that is what will be protecting each individual hair when used. If you're hair is damaged I would suggest using Therapee Shampoo and Humectress Conditioner(this conditioner may be too heavy if you have thin hair) along with the emergencee. This is an absolute must for a monthly treatment. You DO have to use heat and leave it on for at least 30 minutes. If not used correctly you are not going to get the results given on the bottle.
I was really disapointed because I bought this product on the strength of it's reviews on this board.
I'm one of the unlucky few I guess, I didn't notice it made much of a difference to my hair (maybe a slight bit of repair) even after using it with heat. I also hated the texture, it starts out as an oil/gel and then feels almost like oily cement going through my hair, if that makes sense. It took quite a lot of it to cover my head and the packaging is tiny so even if it is cheaper now it's still not worth the money for those with thick and long hair.
Considering what I went through just to purchase it (every salon and drugstore in town practically and DOZENS of websites emailing me back post-order to say it's sold out) I'm left with quite a bad taste in my mouth.
The jury is still out on this one for me. I just tried this about an hour ago. It seemed to make my hair a smoother and when I put on conditioner afterwards the tangles came right out, but its not shinier. My hair feels like it has a little build up, but I'm not sure if that's from the Emergencee or from the Therape shampoo and Humectress conditioner I used afterwards, as all of them were new products for me. I'm curious to see what my hair looks like in a few hours (it never looks good until its been smoothed in a bun for a couple of hours, I think the products need to absorb or something). I will try it again using a different shampoo and conditioner.
I thought it was just okay, but I may be a bit biased. First off, I have very long hair, so I only got a full four or so treatments out of the small bottle, which makes this pretty pricey. I left it in as stated for 1-2min, then re-shampooed and conditioned. I didn't notice that big of an improvement unfortunately. After seeing some of the reviews below, I'll try one more bottle and leave it on longer and possibly with a plastic cap and apply some heat and see how that goes. I will update soon.
First of all, I have really damaged and dried hair from too much dyeing, bleaching, and perming my hair. My hair literally felt like straw! After using this product my hair seems to be growing faster, and it prevented my hair from getting more damaged. It wont magically restore your hair to healthy, smooth and shiny, but it sure does help repair your hair.
Just bought this product last week. When I first tried it I didn't see much of a difference but I put a lot on my scalp area and not the ends. The second try I put on my whole hair and under foil- then blow dried for 10-15 minutes........really made a big difference. I love it! I use Aussie Moist as a conditioner....
Make sure you use a shower with good water pressure.... or wash hair in a tub under the running water.... or else the tangles won't come out as good and the results won't be as great.
My hair: Naturally wavy, coarse and THICK. Heavy highlights every 6 weeks. Blow dry and flat iron every other day.
I read all the reviews yesterday and went up to CVS and purchased this product along with Nexxus Aloe Rid clarifying shampoo. I use a lot of product to protect my hair from heat The Aloe Rid got rid of the build up and the Emergencee treatment worked beautifully. I towel dried my hair and applied it rather heavy, finger-combed through and put a plastic cap on for 10 minutes. Rinsed and used a little followup conditioner. My hair is soft again, not straw like before. Very impressed.
This product it great. I have fine, relaxed hair and due to improper application of a relaxer - I suffered from some shedding. I have always been a fan of Nexxus. However, I apply it a little differently. Instead of placing a plastic cap over my head, I sit under the dryer and let it dry in my hair (like Aphogee) the results seemed 10x better than using a plastic cap. I then shampoo with Therapy and use Humectress. My hair has so much body, not shedding, growing and is much stronger. My regular regimen (between treatments) is using Fermadyl's leave in (Fabulous stuff) it does not weigh my hair done and give me a lot body.
I have tons of fine, dark (ash) blonde slightly wavy hair. Chemically treated--salon colored & highlighted--I'd say slight damage to moderate on some small areas. It has never been silky (even as a child). It has always naturally had more of a dull/porous look to it. I always envied the grils with the silky like glass hair. Anyway, so I secretly hoped that Emergencee would give me that "smooth as glass" that everyone in these reviews talks about. Well, I guess I got my hopes up and probably didn't have realistic expectations. I do see improvement, just not a "Wow! Miracle!" as I have been reading.
I first clarified with Paul Mitchell II, then generously applied the Emergencee and put on a shower cap for about 3-5 minutes. It does give your hair an odd, straw-like feel (which I expected from reading here). Rinsed & shampooed w/ Therapee. Moisturized w/ Humectress for about 5 minutes. Rinising off the Humectress my hair did feel smooth as silk.
Some skeptics of this product say that it's probably not the Emergencee that is getting their hair in better condition but rather the other products along with it--I don't agree with that because I've been using the other products without the Emergencee and haven't had the same results as WITH the Emergencee.
I also read that this will continue to improve hair over time so maybe I need to keep using. I'll try again in two weeks, just before my next salon chemical process.
I have wavy-to-straight, long, naturally dark hair with several pieces dyed unnatural colors (I have every color of the rainbow), which means I've had to bleach it several times - sometimes to the point of being nearly white! That means two things: damage, and that unpleasant, straw-like feeling. This product really helped the condition of those damaged pieces! I have tried it in the past and remembered not heeding the directions, but after reading these reviews went back and tried again following them very closely. The results were amazing! The damaged parts felt healthy, and basically like the rest of my natural hair! What I did notice was that this products effects aren't very significant on already-healthy, normal hair - but for my DAMAGED hair, it did wonders! The results were honestly like magic! Definitely a holy grail product. I used it in conjunction with L'oreal's Nature's Therapy Mega Moisture Nurturing Creme (which is a spectacular moisturizing conditioner on its own!) and left it on while in the shower, so I didn't even have to leave it on all night.
EDIT: I've been using this for a while now, and thought I would add these tips: one, this product feels most effective when you don't use it too often. Maybe it's because by then your hair has damage and thus the improvement appears that much more drastic? All I know is that when I use it less than once a month, my hair just feels more soft and smooth.
The other great thing is that I also notice all of my hair exponentially improving, even the natural parts (versus the bleached ones). This makes my hair so luscious and silky. It's awesome!
