I am addicted to these! I have
3 – light dusty purple
7 – medium coral
10 – dark, bright red
15 – medium pink, bright and blue
19 – light, peach-pink-beige nude
I buy these even though I balk at spending $32 on a lipstick. I’ll spend the moon on a foundation and powder but think that there are good inexpensive lip products to be found. That was before I tried these. I have little use for anything else. No need for lipliner, the finish looks lovely, no need for a topcoat, oh, I love.
Most importantly, I think you should buy these in a color depth that matches your lip pigmentation. I am PPP with pigmented lips, but by no means are they deeply pigmented. I look best in light and medium colors: 7 is my absolute favorite, 19 is a great nude lip, 3 would be great if I was into purples at the moment, and 15 is new to me but it applies as well as 7. 10 is too dark for me; I wear dark and bright cream lipsticks without a problem, but 10 requires many coats for the finish to look even and I think it destroys the look for me. These go on sheer and can be built up – I think they look best at one or two thin coats where the liquid just hovers over your lips. I generally wear 10 by wiping it into my lip as a stain, not a gloss. It looks good that way, too, but doesn’t have the same longevity. You can mix shades; I sometimes put 19 on top to pale things down.
The gloss lasts for 2-3 hours and then you are left with a slight stain. I may go 5-6 hours without a touch-up. The gloss can last through meals. It reapplies extremely well, and the color looks more intense with more coats throughout the day. Wipe the first coat off if you don’t want the increased intensity. The lip applicator works fine unless you want a really precise line, then use a lip brush to apply. I use a lip brush with 10 if I keep it glossy. I’ve had no problems with the container.
I look forward to cheap dupes in the future, but until then, I will buy these. I would like more of a selection of light and medium colors; it seems like most of the colors are too dark for my lips.
I think these are great quality, but could be a little better. They feel comfortable and are long wearing. I took one lippie off since there are no light nudes as a part of their colour selection. I took another lippie off since they are very sheer and I feel for the price they should be more pigmented. Until YSL makes a colour for suited for me, I will not repurchase.
I have 4 shades 5, 7, 16, 17.
Packaging: Feels a bit cheap because it's plastic but I do love the way the bottle is designed. Clean and sleek black and gold color with a narrow window for you to see how much product is left and the color inside. I love the spade shaped sponge applicator. It provides precise application on the edges and cupid's bow of your lips.
Scent: It's weird. it smells like roses and wine/beer at the same time. I don't mind it but if you're one who is sensitive/picky with scents, I suggest you try these out first before purchasing.
Feel/Look: Wet upon initial application and dries down after just a few seconds. Gives a decent amount of color and shine for one coat. Second coat gives full-on coverage and high shine. Very light and comfortable even though it looks as if you have one lip liner, lipstick, stain and gloss in one.
Lasting power: Glossiness lasts for about 2-3 hours. I tried drinking and only the glossiness came off little by little. Color is still full on. When I eat, I find that most of the color fade in the center. I don't have to re apply that often though, maybe 1-2 times a day. When I am busy at work and I cannot re apply until after 8 straight hours, I am left with a faint stain on my lips but not dry feeling at all.
Color range: I find it limited to oranges, pinks, and reds, few purples. I wish there were more browns and nudes.
Price: Expensive, $34 CAD but I find it so worth it because it's like lip liner, gloss, lipstick, and lip stain in one and I don't have to keep re-applying throughout the day.
Overall: I AM CRAZY IN LOVE FOR THESE! I purchased 17 first, got obsessed, then purchased the other three next. Cant wait to get more of these! Eep!
This made my lips peel badly! I love YSL products but I felt the packaging wasn't as nice (and heavy) as their other lip products. I returned this and got the Lip Balm and I am much happier.
Unfortunately I bought this when they were still new and everybody was raving about them, and I thought they would be my all-time favorites, but nope...
I bought #12 Coril Fauve, and it's not the most flattering shade on me, it's more red than coral, and too bright for my liking, but ok, that was my error, I'm the one who chose this shade. It's actually not too bad when it's fresh on, it's glossy and looks good for a night look...provided you don't eat or drink or kiss or anything that involves messing with it!
Which contradicts the concept of a "stain".
The scent (dried up roses) doesn't bother me at all, but the tacky feeling once it dries does. It looks pretty glossy for a short amount of time, then the glossy look fades, leaving behind a meh-looking stain. If I eat, there is nothing left on my lips.
To me, this is just not a good product, and considering the hefty price tag, I was expecting this product to perform.
I'm giving it a 3 based strictly on the way it looks upon application and as long as you don't touch it, but any more than that, it would be a negative score!
I am a HUGE YSL fan. I had high hopes for this product. It sits on top of your lips and makes them tight in a weird way. That I can deal with...but the smell? It's atrocious and nauseating!!! Others say it has the signature YSL lip product smell, which it does not. It smells like wine gone sour. True the colors are nice and the finish looks good. But for this price, no way! I got sick from wearing one and took it back. YSL, which never lets me down, failed to deliver the complete package with this product. Don't know how it ever passed the quality check. The packaging is tacky as well. If you want a pretty stain, buy a rouge volupte perle in a bright color and skip this mess of a product.
This is my first post so hopefully i make it good :)
Ive tried MANY lip stains; from Revlon to Benefit and everything in between. I was looking for a 'clear red' colour (which Revlon had in colour flame but got discontinued) and i was looking online for the best Red Lip Stains when someone mentioned this one.
Gloss - a really nice non-sticky high-shine gloss that looks amazing. The gloss i found goes away quite quickly, and only the stain is left over.
Stain - i found that the stain colour was a bit different to the 'gloss' colour, but it was still nice.
A bit pricey, but still reasonable if its a good product which it is.
I thought i might mention that the moisture level of this product is substantially good. I am currently on Roaccutane for my skin at the moment, and my lips are beyond damaged. I can put this product on (after applying lip balm) and it doesn't make them look too dry. The stain also stays on to give it a nice colour.
I love the colour, and adore the idea. Try it ladies :)
I really enjoy this. I have really dry lips so I was hesitant to try a stain.. But even though it does dry down on your lips. It doesn't dry them out and leaves a hint of gloss. It stains your lips a nice wash of color. Smells divine and the packaging is excellent. I highly recommend this
I would not call this a glossy stain at all. The product is very high maintenance and patchy when it goes on, I had to run my finger over my lips for even application. It instantly dries down and what you feel on your lips is not glossy, but sticky, it doesn't look glossy either. Just a very uncomfortable feeling on the lips. I wouldn't dare apply this without a mirror. I got this in 18 and the colour is lovely but thats about it as this product goes.
At this price point ($32 a pop), this gloss better knock my socks off and make my bed. In short it didn't. First, the smell is absolutely revolting, like wine gone bad. I've tried YSL products in the past and have loved the rose/mango scents, but the scent on these new stains are just disgusting. I also found the packaging cheap and plastic-y. As for the gloss itself, it bleeds easily and the color is not true to the tube. They're also quite sheer, so if your lips have any color to them whatsoever, you're unlikely to get the color you see in the tube to show up on your lips. The consistency is also weird, it goes on watery and then slightly solidifies to become sticky. I tried #8 and #15 and loved them swatched them on my hand, but on the lips they were a huge disappointment.
