Thanks to GWP, I had a couple of samples of this and could use them for several weeks. Since it was sample size, I tried it only on the fine lines on my forehead and around one eye (I wanted to be sure I'd see a difference).
This product filled my forehead with blackheads. Furthermore, I had to quickly discontinue the use around the eye, since it cause small red bumps to appear. I looked at the ingredients... the first few ingredients is a bunch of silicones, what was I expecting? All the lines are still there, no reduction at all. Be very careful to use this if you are acne prone.
After daily use for approximately 8 weeks, this product produced no reduction in fine lines or hyperpigmentation caused by sun damage. I used this morning and night until the bottle was gone. I wasn't expecting a miracle, but some lightening, brightening, or exfoliation effect would have made the purchase somewhat worthwhile. This product made my makeup look creased and cakey, which is not a reasonable side effect when I need to cover melasma and dark circles. There was no logical reason to repurchase and continue this serum, as there are products that produce some results for hyperpigmentation after 8 weeks of continued use. Now that I am more educated about product ingredients, I realize that there is nothing in this so called "damage corrector" that is powerful enough to effectively produce those kinds of results. I love many Clinique items, including some of their skincare products. But unfortunately their skin treatment lines tend to to be weak and ineffective if you are targeting difficult problems that come with age and UV exposure, such as fine lines, wrinkles, or hyperpigmentation/melasma.
I had intended to do a review in three parts: initial, couple weeks in, then a couple months in. Well, I am already a couple weeks in and here I am finally making time for a review.
Initial thoughts on texture and application: product is thin and lightweight, completely non-greasy. Absorbs all the way into my normal/combination skin with no problem, leaves no feeling of moisturization. Didn't notice any results whatsoever the first week. I use this immediately after cleansing morning and night, right before my moisturizer.
Two weeks in: I NOTICE A DIFFERENCE. In the car today, looking in the rear view, I noticed that my skin has a smoothness and clarity I have not seen since I used Retin-A. Granted, this is not the same level. But I definitely see similarities, Yes, my skin feels a little more dry and sometimes a touch scratchy. Very low level but similar effects to what I experience when using Retin-A or Renova.
The results thus far are nowhere near as dramatic as the first couple weeks on Retin-A. I am not experience the crazy peeling and purging of cells. And I do not expect this to boost collagen in the same way that I get with Retin-A. But I do see a clarity and smoothness. Have had a few compliments this week on my skin and that's nice. I used to get that every week and haven't had one for awhile.
I will check in again in a month or so with an update.
I liked the idea of this product, and it probably does work in the long term as they say, but it dries my skin (despite using a moisturising cream on top of it) and makes my foundation feel so uncomfortable, that I've had to discard it after just a week. I liked the fact that you could use it around your eyes as well, but it's not great under make up. The skin around the eyes dried up a lot and felt uncomfortable, so much so that someone asked me if I had a condition around the eyes!
I am going back to Capture Totale One Essential now, which is twice the price, but worth every single penny.
I guess I was hoping to see an improvement in skin tone and texture, but I used the whole bottle with no difference. I guess, I got nothing really. The applicator was weird, I think I wasted a bunch. I ended up just focusing on areas where I had sun damage and hyperpigmentation, but nothing. Oh well...
Used it for a month. It seemed wonderful at first.... felt good on my skin, didn't cause problems and provided a nice base for powder foundation. I was full of hope but I didn't see any benefits to keep up with it. Half a bottle sits there waiting for warmer weather where it can provide a nice matte finish under makeup. Can't bring myself to toss it yet.
I was so excited when this product came out, it sounded amazing. I had often used the repairwear serum, which I adore! My main issue with this was the texture and finish. I like to layer products, however with this product I was unable to do this. It pilled/balled up and rubbed off when I tried to apply my moisturiser.
I wanted a serum that would brighten my skin, or at least get rid of any imperfections or dark spots. I thought this thing was GREAT at the beginning (first 2 weeks). My usual routine would be: wash face--> clinique toner--> serum--> moisturizer. However, I dont know what happened, but after a while, I dont see much difference any more. I think the effects (at best) plateau-ed. When I stopped using it, I dont see much different with my skin... Also I would definitely recommend using a heavy moisturizer after this because it doesnt do anything to moisturize/hydrate your skin (especially seeing how its winter and all).
The packaging is absolutely horrible. I hated the squeeze dropper and I'd rather this comes in a pump bottle. I've been using this for about 2 months. I'll definitely not buy this again.
So far, I have used the Sephora large sample and 2 full size bottles of this stuff. I used a bit more than the recommended 3-4 drops morning and night before moisturizing. I loved it at first. I have combination skin that tends to be flaky in parts and oily in others. This seemed to smooth everything out and reduce the amount of oil that I experienced. However, when I started on the 2nd bottle I noticed that my skin was getting increasingly dry and reactive. Instead of a bit of oil in the afternoon, my skin felt tight and dehydrated; it got red and irritated much more easily. I chalked it up to the freezing winter air and added a heavier moisturizer to my routine. No luck. I stopped exfoliating, I exfoliated more, I changed my cleanser, etc. Since this serum was so great in the beginning, I didn't think that it could be doing all of this to my skin. I didn't put it together until I ran out of the 2nd bottle and did not have time to replace it. Within 2 days, my skin was noticeably less tight and flaky. I should rate this product lower than 3 lippies; however, I do think that it would be great for someone with very oily skin. Since I am much more oily in the summer months, I intend on trying it again later. I also think that using much less product and using it less frequently would help. So, 3 lippies - because it doesn't work for me, but maybe it would for you.
So far I am really liking this serum but worried about breaking out, thus the 3. I am using this with 2 other products which may also be working in conjunction to even out my skintone and erase my fine lines. I am using Clinique's Mild Toner, EL Night Repair, This serum with the Zero Gravity cream for combo skin.
So far, no breakouts or bad reactions and no clogged pores which is a MAJOR issue for me. My skintone has become very even (I was very blotchy looking), My face is very smooth and feel tighter and firmer. Since I have only been using a week, I will do a 4 week update which is when the directions say I will see real improvement. So far so good.
Update: I'm bumping this up to a 4. I have been using this day and night for the last 4 weeks and have actually seen some significant changes. My skin is finally eventoned, my post acne marks are dissapearing and the fine lines on my forehead have definitely diminished. this also makes my skin very smooth. Wears well under makeup. I am also using the Zero Gravity moisturizer with this and the Clinique toner. My skin looks great, no breakouts, brighter and clearer. I just ordered a second bottle. I will say I do not like the bottle at all. Mainly because when you get to the end, the dropper does not pick up product anymore and you have to tilt the bottle to get the rest out. I rarely repurchase skincare unless it's actually doing something good. I'll give it a 4 and not a 5 because I know there are better products out there but my finicky skin seems to like this. After my second bottle I will reaccess.
