I would love to know who started the rumor that this is the greatest mascara ever!!! I'm thinking the marketing dept. over at Maybelline had something to do w/ it. It's OK for a drug store mascara but it's just OK. Most drug store mascaras are OK. If I see this mascara on1 more list of the best mascaras ever, I'm going to scream!!!!!

I don't understand why this gets really bad reviews. I have been using this since I started wearing mascara. I have tried so many different ones that I have a huge collections of mascaras. I always go back to this one. The only one I have found that I really like is Loreal. I even hate my Lancôme one. Mascara doesn't last long in general. The air gets in the tube and dries it out. Once it gets clumpy throw it out. This is a buildable mascara. I love that the brush is small and sleek so I have more control and it also allows you to go in lash by lash if need be without making a hot mascara mess.

Oh, how I despise this mascara.
I have no idea why this mascara has a reputation for being the "classic" mascara. Immediately, this mascara made my curled eyelashes wilt and droop. My lashes clumped together after only 1 coat and the product itself was gloopy and a little gross to be honest. Since I was in a rush to get to work when I applied this, I used a pencil to separate my lashes as best as I could and ran out the door. When I had time to check it on my lunch break (about 4 hours later), I was shocked that no one had said anything to me! There were not only black smudges under my eyes and all over my lids, but there were black crumbly pieces that had fallen onto my cheeks.
Overall, stay away from this mascara, I've never used a more horrible product!

I really think somewhere along the years this mascaras formula was changed. While I know teenagers use cheap products, due to money issues, I never recall years ago this mascara being as bad as it is.
It seems majority lately are horrible, more than they use to be like something extra horrible is being added.
I put this at a two "lippie"/"star" because while this is bad, I have found worse in my search for something that doesn't make me look like im wearing fake eyelashes, black lash dandruff or that does nothing.
This comes in clear, black or black brown. I find it doesn't clump if you don't use a huge amount of it. Just a single swipe it more than enough for each eye.
After all this talk of this mascara I had to try it. My lashes are very easy to work with (I have great lashes), so this mascara worked o.k., but I could see that those of you with short lashes would not appreciate this mascara. As it says; it's very black. I would see this better as a easy, everyday - look mascara in a brownish shade. Nothing special at all with this mascara, "dessverre" (as we say in Norway) ;)
All this product needs is two words: CLUMP CITY. Your welcomeee.

This was the first mascara I ever uesd and the one my mom used for years before. It used to be better (don't know if they changed the formula) but I simply wouldn't buy it because there are so many better drugstore mascaras.

makes my lashes brittle and makes them look like spider legs. ugly. the version with the cone brush is only a tiny bit better, the very skinny tip of the cone helps to get inner corners... but only for your right eye. you would have to flip the brush over to get it to be that way for the left eye... awkward for me at least.
There must be something magical about this mascara that I do not get. I've tried this mascara twice- years apart and it was a complete waste of money. Its just GLOBBY, messy, it gets everywhere, clumps...
I hate this stuff, too much work to get it to work.
FAIL.
