Some pros and cons: I love the way this foundation looks and feels. It gives a flawless, fresh, baby skin look to my uneven, combo skin. I love the natural ingredients and fresh scent, also it doesn't transfer to clothing which is great. I've received many compliments while using it; BUT it takes too long to apply as it is a tiny little square cake and the clumsy sponge applicator cakes up/clogs quickly. It takes many swipes to cover the entire face. If you have a lot of patience this is a great choice but for me, time in the morning is a luxury! Also you have to buy a magnetic compact to put it in. I use the Aveda compact and sometimes the cake tin slides around on the magnet when I'm in a hurry and swiping quickly, it has even popped out a few times which resulted in broken bits of foundation everywhere! Also the 2oz at $20 doesn't last very long, about two months for me using it once a day, every day. After 5 years of using this I've switched to L'Oreal Cashmere Perfect Creme Powder Foundation. It looks almost as fresh and is so much easier to work with and not so harsh on the wallet.
Just started using this and am really liking it. I'm using the 03 Linen, which is the perfect color for my fairly light skin with yellow undertones. The foundation has a very light, silky feel when you first apply and lasts fairly well on my combination skin through the day. I wear this over moisturizer and concealer on my undereyes and any blemish spots. It's great for the office and the weekends, when I want to look put together but not overly 'made-up.' For an evening out this is great to wear over a sheer coverage foundation or tinted moisturizer for a bit more coverage and a more polished look. It is less expensive than some other powder foundations and even though you do seem to get less with this than others, that has never been a problem for me as I always seem to be throwing makeup out because it's past its prime long before I've reached the end of the container.
This is my favorite powder foundation. The only reason for 4 lippies instead of 5 is that it can settle into my pores and requires a little blending. Has SPF and makes my skin glowy, not matte. I Wish you didn't have to buy the compact seperately, but I guess less waste is good. This is great for my summer oily and winter dry skin. No rosacea flares for this unlike Jane Iredale and Bare Escentuals.
I was so bummed when I discovered my beloved Dual Base Minus Oil was discontinued. I was even more bummed when I tried the Innerlight powder foundation and found it to be a streaky, uneven mess when I put it on. However after a bit of experimenting (I sure as heck wasn't going to let $20 go in the trash!) I discovered something....the best way to use this makeup is to take the sponge that comes with it and throw it away. Far away. The sponge was the reason it looked so icky on me. Once I used a nice dense powder brush this stuff looked DIVINE. It's exactly what I wanted Bare Escentuals and other mineral makeups to look like on me but did not (BE left my pores enormous and slid off my face). Even though this isn't a "mineral makeup" per se, Aveda could definitely advertise it as one since it performs so well...just remember to avoid the sponge like the plague! Definitely one of my fave powder foundations!

Oily skin HG product for sure. I bought this yesterday thanks to the reviews posted here and can now stop the search for powder foundation. I have combo oily skin and prefer matte powder foundation with full coverage that stays put. I have tried most minerals (Glo, BE, Pur, JI, Monave, Philosophy, Mineral Secrets, and el-cheapo zuzu) but none delivered exactly what I was looking for. The Aveda dual is lovely- so easy and quick to apply. I apply with a flat top dome brush and it just covers and blurs imperfections beautifully. Stays matte, delivers great coverage and lasts longer than those previously mentioned brands. Feels like there is no makeup on my face. I appreciate that there is no bismuth or talc in this product.
This is a great powder foundation for extremely oily skin. I found it to be a little too drying for my combination skin...it emphasized the flakes in my dry areas. But on oily skin, I imagine it keeps shine away for quite awhile.
The lightest shade, Cream, is just a little too pale for my NW15, LM Porcelain Ivory skin. The next shade, Aster, is just a little too dark.
I do like the fact that the compact you can buy for this is refillable and has a lipstick holder. Just wish I could get a color match...I would wear this in the summer when I am a bit more oily if I could.
Even though I realize this is a completely different formulation, this product reminds me a lot of the discontinued Dual Base Foundation. It has the same smooth silky feel and offers medium to full coverage. I used Aster in Dual Base and find that I can still use Aster in the Inner Light. While the Aster in Dual Base was a slightly orange and got more orange throughout the day, the Aster in Inner Light is slightly pink and does not change color at all. Like any good powder foundation, this is quick and easy to apply and covers well. It can be used wet, dry with enclosed sponge, or dry with a powder brush. I think this is a great alternative for those looking for a mineral foundation in a pressed form. As far as performance, I find this gives more coverage than mineral foundation and better oil control.
If you apply this wet..it gives a more sheer dewy coverage..applied dry its more coverage and matte.
I love the option, the colors are great and it looks great on with no breakouts. A big plus for me is also that they dont test on animals or use animal bi products or us petrochemicals..
Ill play the extra cost it takes to support that. I second all the reasons to buy this from the post below me
I love this foundation. This is the first foundation that doesn't break me out. It feels silky soft and the look is so natural. I love how this foundation does not cake or turn orangy.I'd recommend it for anyone with combo to oily skin. Aveda's earth friendly philosophy makes you feel good about buying this and all of its products. Even the packaging of their products are made from recycle.

I've been using this for almost 2 years now, and I love it-it's my HG. I had some pretty bad skin, since I was 13 and I started paying attention to what was in my makeup. My friend worked at an Aveda salon, and I found this when I stopped in, and I loved it since day one. I don't bother buying the compact to put it in, I just keep it in the plastic case. I use a stiff 'powder foundation' brush to apply it, mainly on my nose chin and forehead for shine issues. I have tried other "oily" skin m/u but my skin looks the best when I stick with this. And I'm hardly ever shiny in it. I will probably buy this for a long time to come.
