I LOVE this! I used this foundation for years, I get many compliments on how nice my skin looks when I use this.
So my never ending search for a perfect foundation match lead me to try Bare Minerals. A bit about me.
I am bi racial half English half African and have light brown skin with fairly yellow undertones.
I've been using MAC for a few years and was always matched with NC 45 which is far too orange, NC 44 is too pale in the studio fix formulation anyway.
I was given a sample of Golden Tan in bare minerals original formula despite me telling the MUA that I had combination skin. The colour of the original formula was almost perfect but looked a little pink at first then when oxidised it would match me better. Decided to bite the bullet and buy the Matte version in Golden Tan and it's a perfect match. One thing I have noticed though that it does oxides slightly orange but it looks more like I've got a slight tan. My skin has cleared up and although I get the odd pimple most of my previous post inflammation hyper pigmentation (us brown skin girls know all about that) has gone making this an ideal foundation for me.
This foundation makes my skin look airbrushed and luminous especially once my oil comes through. It doesn't stay matte for long nor does it make my skin look like a frying pan. I'm searching for a better primer for oil control which will help.
I wouldn't recommend this foundation if you have a lot of acne as I don't think the coverage is there but I really am impressed with this.
I am not in any way a super oily skinned gal, but there is nothing in this world that I hate more than sparkle ALL OVER MY FACE, which is what turned me off the the bare minerals original formula. This does not have nay of that shimmer. And for that reason I love it.
I was breaking out something fierce a few months back due to an allergic reaction to a makeup product and my mom was concerned my foundation at the time (Rimmel Lasting Finish) was breaking me out further, so she bought me this.
Becasue bare minerals is natural and very light (it claims you can sleep in it!!) it let my skin breathe and let it heal. And it did! My skin started to settle down and now I wear this whenever I notice my skin acting up.
It definitely doesn't compare to a real liquid foundation in coverage, so if you are expecting that kind of coverage you may want to try something else. But it isn't totally sheer, it does cut back the redness on my cheeks and forehead considerably and makes it look very smooth and even, not quite flawless but even :)
I will for sure be continuing to use this (just for reference I am in the color fairly light and I'm about an NC15-NC20). I would suggest going to either a bare minerals store, an Ulta, or a Sephora to get matched for color :)
Was using Mac then went to ultra had a 30 day trial so I picked medium beige in original and matte.liked the original but then after I washed my face had little bumps.so I tried the matte with my sunscreen and it looked horrible. So I went to buy the sunscreen moisturizer for normal to dry skin.OK applied the primer and then added the matte.it was too dark but it did cover my laugh lines. Then used the summer bisque. To cover the deal spots it was OK but still didn't cover it up.At the end of the day I washed and bumps again. So I read that hour skin had to get used to it OK.So after 2 weeks more bumps and it horrible.so I went back to Mac!
I was matched to fairly light which was WAY too dark for me. I am an NC20. Oh my goodness. It highlighted every last dry flake on my face. I tried to apply it differently on many occasions, but it just caked on everywhere. It made me look like I had a severe case of peach fuzz. I really wanted to love this foundation since I heard so many great things about it, but I will not be re-purchasing.
I have this in my color and in a much lighter shade to highlight, conceal, and brighten. I'm very dry and VERY sensitive, and I've only used tinted moisturizer in my whole life. This is a really light weight powder that is very concentrated in pigment, so you only need the tiniest amount to cover things up! I got this in the matte formula because I heard the original has shimmer particles in it which is not ideal for day time ( for me at least) This is a little drying for me but I use a TON of moisturizer any way so it works fine but when I don't it does cling to my dryness :( I also found that I can cheat a little and use a darker shade to make myself look a bit more tan and it looks SUPER natural!!! ^_^
Yeah, I think this gave me cystic acne.... Dang it! 3/5
Overall Rating: 4/5
I picked up a sample of this at Bare Escentuals. I have tried the original version and was NOT a fan. It felt tight on my skin, and made me look old and had way to much shimmer. I then looked at the reviews for the original version, and saw how bad they were, which is ironic, giving the fact that this product is so insanely hyped about. Anyway, I decided to try the MATTE version. The woman at the counter gave me the sample in "Medium Beige", which is a tad dark, but it will do. I have acne prone, oily skin. I am NW20-25ish.
-For me, and my oily skin, it really does keep me mostly matte for quite a long time. I do have to blot a bit here and there, but not excessively (which I HATE doing).
-Although the foundation is matte, I find the finish to be more satin/natural. It is definitely LIGHT-MEDIUM coverage, and I have to go over some stubborn acne scars I have.
-Application is quick and easy. I use the ELF flat top powder brush, which I LOVE for loose powder. I love powder foundations because it takes about half the time to do my makeup with them than with liquids.
-Coverage is moderately buildable, but I wouldn't try to reach full, or you will look cakey
-No transferring, which is a HUGE plus. I hate having to worry about my makeup transferring to people, clothes, or my cell phone. It is very bothersome.
-It is pretty expensive. Especially given the fact that you really don't get a whole lot of product (6 grams). If a foundation is going to be that expensive, I feel it should last me a long time.
Overall, the pros definitely out weigh the cons. I am still not quite sure I will repurchase, because I do have to use quite a bit of product to get my desired coverage. However, I heard that this makeup clears up acne, so maybe I won't have to use as much make up in the future! Will update if I find anymore problems.
- Great pigmentation (a little goes a long way!)
- Matte finish
- Easy to use
My first foundation was the original BareMinerals foundation, but with my oily skin, I wasn't a huge fan of ending up with an oil slick on my face at the end of the day, so I rarely, if ever, wore it. Naturally, I was quite happy when BareMinerals came out with a matte line as well. Like the original formulation, the matte formula is also lightweight. It is a light to medium coverage foundation, so if you're looking for heavier coverage, then BareMinerals is definitely not for you (try MUFE or MAC instead). But for those looking for a lighter coverage foundation, I suggest that you give BareMinerals a try.
Purchased this because I had been interested in mineral makeup for quite a while~
My face and neck are different colors, and I figured that mineral makeup would be a better choice as it is typically more forgiving (in terms of color) than liquid foundation.
I have extremely prominent dark spots (hyperpigmentation) from old acne, so this by itself does almost nothing. However, this paired with my Pefecting Cover concealer looks FANTASTIC after application.
I bought this along with the Bare Escentuals primer (the one formulated for oily skin), yet it tends not to last all day on me =\ However, I can't say I've EVER had a makeup that's lasted all day on me, so that may not be a fair criticism to make.
After a few hours, this oxidizes and starts looking dirty and muddy on my face. This may be because I picked a color that was a bit darker to match my neck to begin with, and the oxidation throughout the day crosses the line of acceptability.
This product is extremely subpar in terms of everyday usage, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Despite this, I find that it looks fantastic in photography. That's about the only positive about this foundation, and I'm fairly certain that there are other foundations that look just as nice in photography AND for daily wear.
This in mind, DON'T BUY IT.
This is the only thing I continue to purchase and use from BE and have used bare minerals for years to set my tinted moisturizer. It works wonders and minimizes pores and shine really well. I think people have such issues with this b/c they try to do the blend buff thing that can make u end up looking powdery and cakey. if you have oily skin like me try this for a setting powder. I have medium skin and use medium beige in matte b/c it is made for neutral undertones. It does not leave you orange or pink. I am all about natural looking light coverage and this is it. Price is kinda steep but it lasts for quite some time since I only set my TM. Check out ebay for great deals on BE from many authentic sellers.
