I used to wear double wear foundation cause i like a full coverage foundation to cover blemishes. So i thought i would try double wear light... I'm just glad i got a sample first. It went on well, looked good for a while but just didn't stay in place for me. My skin is oily and very blemish prone so it would maybe be more suitable for combination/normal skin!
I used to like the original DW, but I could never find a good match for my complexion. Canada didn't have the lightest shades, so the one I used, Ecru, was a bit too dark and orange and you could see the dreaded line of demarcation at my neck.
I got the Light in Intensity 1, worrying that it would also be too dark, after reading the reviews. I'm glad to say it's actually a perfect match, even slightly too light (which is easily fixable with a darker powder). It does not oxidize, or change color on me - huge improvement from the original.
My face is generally clear these days, I have some left over darker acne marks from my pre-BCP days, some pitted scars, some uneven texture to cover up, and this foundation does a pretty good job. I don't think it would cover fresh pimples entirely though.
It glides on smoothly, it has only a very slight fragrance, it doesn't dry instantly so you can take your time applying it. The finish is even and a bit glowy, but not oily or anything. I do top it off with setting powder (MAC Blot Loose at the moment), and the combo works nicely.
The only minus I can mention is the (lack of) oil control, for me. It might control the oilies for a little bit longer than the usual foundation, but definitely not until the end of the day. I still have to blot and reapply powder after 2-3 hours.
Overall it's become my favorite at the moment. Love the finish, how it minimizes pores and together with the powder, gives an almost airbrushed look. It doesn't cake, or settle into pores/fine lines.
EDIT 10/16/2008: I still prefer the original over this, especially since the Ecru matches me much better these days (did they change anything?). Anyway, the Light seems to break me out a little, doesn't keep me as matte as the original, and the coverage isn't as good. However, it looks more natural on the skin than the original... I like both though...
This is one of the better foundations I have tried. I used to wear double wear in college, but I haven't in years, but I'm not really sure why. I figured I would try this product. The SA gave me a sample in shade 1. I loved the staying power, consistency, finish and coverage, but I thought that the shade was a little too light. I am an NC 20-25. I finally decided to buy it myself in shade 2, and kept the receipt in case it didn't work. The shade is very nice! It is virtually undetectable and matches my neck well-it is not at all too dark. I do wish that it had a little bit more yellow in it though; it isn't pink imo, but it is just a neutral shade. I used MAC studio fluid for years, and I do love that foundation, but it is a little hard for me to blend since it dries so fast and I think it may break me out. This foundation is creamy and can be blended very well with your fingers (how I apply it). I set it with powder, and I swear, 12 hours later, my makeup still looks good! Before going out again after the end of the work day, I would just blot wtih a little powder, but the coverage is still there! I also think it has a nice matte finish that isn't "too matte"- I guess it still looks natural. I would buy this again for sure, but I do wish they would broaden the range of shades! The shade 1 was only slightly too light for me, and I am fair, but not extremely fair, so the very fair girls would find shade 1 being too dark, which is a shame! I think this is worth a shot- I think most sa's would provide a generous sample so you can at least check it out. I'm glad I decided to! I admit, the wonderful reviews on here influenced me, but that is what this is about!
Thank goodness for samples as otherwise I would have spent $32.50 on a foundation that I do not like. I went to the Estee Lauder counter so I could be tested for the correct color, boy was I surprised when she said I was an intensity 2 as I am pretty fair and wear a natural ivory color in all other foundations. She gave me generous sample to try for the remainder of the week and after just 2 days I knew this was not the foundation for me. At first I really liked the coverage and it didnít feel heavy on my skin. However what I did notice was it really dried out my face, especially around my nose and mouth area. As the day wore on it was quite apparent that the intensity 2 was indeed too dark and it looked like I was wearing a mask. I did not think that the staying power of this foundation was that great as it looked smeary and cakey after about 6 hours. It also settled into my pores after about 2 hours which made them look extremely noticeable. Needless to say I am very thankful for the sample of this makeup as it saved me $32.50 that I can now spend on something else.
This is by far the worst foundation i've tried including cheap drug stores ones......i can't even blend evenly on my forehead(the smoothest part of my face) which has no pimples or dry spots whatsoever........even right after my heavy moisturzier....it makes my skin looks dry dry dry with white dry patches everywhere....it seems liked i'm putting Wall Paint on my face..........i dun see how this foundation is moisturizing at all.........due to the price i think it's really crappy............
I have been on a mad search for a liquid foundation that gives me enough coverage, but doesn't break me out or clog my pores. I've tried MAC SFF, Chanel TI liquid and compact, Revlon Colorstay (love the coverage, but clogs my pores something fierce), Chanel Mat Lumiere (close, but doesn't last that long). After trying all those....I decided that DW Light is it!
It covers my acne scars and blemishes beautifully without looking too heavy or cakey. The finish is amazing --- matte, but with a glow. I use my 187 and it goes on light & blends like a dream. Awesome staying power --- goes on at 7:30 AM and looks perfect when I remove it at 7:30 PM.
I'm an NC40-42, Chanel Soft Honey/Wheat, MUFE Duo Mat in 207. I tried samples of both 3.0 and 4.0 and 4.0 is a perfect match.
Dare I say this could be my HG foundation? Love love love!
love it!! Unlike most of the reviews I've read on here,, I haven't tried the Double Wear. I was going to buy it, but then I saw that Double Wear LIght had a higher "buy again"percentage so I bought that. I'm so glad I did! I still love my Stila Illuminating Foundation, don't get me wrong, but my face was breaking out SO BAD(still is!) so I decided to try a new foundation. I figured that since I have to switch moisturizers every so often, maybe I have to do that with foundations as well.
So I bought this without the help of an SA, and I got shade Number 2, which blends flawlessly. It covers up nearly all my blemishes and what isn't covered, I use the YSL concealer on. On that I use the Transluscent Powder. With all three, my skin looks gorgeous and flawless. It doesn't hold all oilies at bay (at least not right now-I'll update in a week or two when my skin is clearer or when the vog is gone), so by about 12/12:30, I have to blot and repowder. Not a big deal to me.
Once again..I am in love...(=
UPDATE:my skin is getting clearer(= however...since this coverage is kind of sheer, I have to do several steps to make my skin perfect: moisturize, then put streaks of Benefit You're Bluffing concealer on my tzone, which blocks out the redness and covers up spots, THEN I put on the foundation. If there are any marks left that I can see, I use the YSL concealer, and finish up with the Aeromatte Pressed Powder(= flawless skin and only one touch up all day at lunch time(=
I have been so jealous reading these reviews as I live in Thailand and this product is not going to be launched here till September. Anyhow my lovely Mum sent me some from the UK and I received it yesterday.
Well I can definitely say it was worth waiting for! Thanks to MUA reviews here I chose Intensity 1 since I am between Bone and Sand in the original EL DW. The colour is almost perfect (if any criticism it is a tiny bit pink), and I agree with other reviews that the paler skins are not going to get a close match under the present colour range.
The consistency is lovely, it glides on really easy with the fingers, no need for a sponge. You have longer blending time. I would say the lasting power is similar to the original DW but the look is much more subtle. I still like the original and I will still wear it (cos I have tons left!), but when I am ready to repurchase I think I choose the LIGHT version over the Original.
Just wish they would make it SPF 15 !!! Despite this I still had to give it 5 lippies!!
Overall this is a nice finish, but the color isn't exactly what I'd like it to be. I'm NC20 and they matched me to Intensity 2. It's too dark and just too pink my taste- I guess I prefer more yellow-based foundations. Have had a few bad experiences with Estee Lauder and will not be going bad.
I love this product. I am not a fan of foundation, but I wanted something to even out my skintone. Double Wear Light is perfect - it blends well, evens out my skin and covers small imperfections, and lasts all day. I never need to touch it up. It doesn't feel like I am wearing foundation. It also doesn't make my sensitive skin itchy like many other products.
