I've been using this since around age 12, when I first started to get acne. For-ever. It always did make my skin dry, ESPECIALLY in the earlier years. Not so much now. I like this product because it's cheap and easily available at every drugstore, and has a great pump. but more than anything, it does what it needs to do-- delivers salicylic acid in a cleanser. I know now that my skin needs it because I went most of 2006 without using it-- MISTAKE! I didn't know how much good it was doing me, so I stopped-- but now I know! I got a TON of bumps all over my face--not pimples (although they did occasionally get infected and become pimples-- argh!) but closed comedones that don't go away, period. Using this wash again has helped to make them less noticeable, but not go away. Still, the wash prevents them, as it did for so many years, and for that I am glad! Will continue to purchase as long as my skin is acne-prone.
Update: I've decided to stop using this. It dries out my face every time, and I think that makes it oilier later, so it cancels out any benefits. I'm using MUAC 3% BHA now.
I currently us this product however I am thinking of trying the Cetaphil normal/oily wash. The neutrogena seems to work good, but I think it is overdrying my face and the smell is not very good. If you have oily skin and are not using any other acne medications then I would say this product is great, but for me I am using Tazorac (topical gel) and combined with this face wash, it seems to be a little to hrash on my skin.
This is supposedly the absolute best cleanser out there, but I have to disagree. I started using this when i was 12, and all it did was dry up my skin for a year until I wised up and stopped buying this dumb cleanser. The SA content in it isn't enough to prevent acne, and the other ingredients are way to drying to be of any use. My advice for people using this cleanser is to try a water soluble cleanser instead of this junk. This is yet another acne product out there that does more harm than good. You'd be better off with Cetaphil gentle cleanser.
I was a loyal fan of this when I was younger.( am 26 now). Back then I believed that more was better- I liked that it left my skin feeling really dry and tight and clean, thinking that it would help with the acne.. If you try using it in conjunction with retinoids or any other acne treatment, it is far too harsh and strips your skin of its natural barrier. I learned through years of experience to use a gentle cleanser that can clean thoroughly, because skin needs a little moisture. If its too dry, pores are more likely to be clogged, and skin looks aged and dry. Overall it's not a good product, because it's not effective on its own to treat moderate to severe acne, and too drying to use with the effective acne treatments out there.
Neutrogena products are usually good to me, like the oil-free acne stress control power-foam wash and the oil-free 60 second mask scrub. I have oily/acne prone skin and I have tried this product a few years ago and it helped for a while but then it stopped and broke me out. I thought I'd give it another shot but this time it gave me bad results. It gave me these little pimples around my cheek and on my chin. I definitely will not try this again and go back to using the acne stress control power-foam wash.
This is the only product that I am completely loyal to. There are products that I love, but I am always willing to try something new; not with this face wash! Nothing compares. I started using it several years ago and will never go back to anything else. You must use a lotion after, but really everyone should use a good moisturizer after washing their face. I just wish they made the orange liquid formula in another container that was easier to travel with!
Make me break out and dried my skin so bad it was almost raw! Won't be purchasing this again!
ick. dried me out, broke me out. will never buy again!
well the price and packing were ok. you get quite a alot of what you pay - however, i will never ever buy this again. After using it twice i got a very bad reaction on my face. My whole face was covered in tiny bumps and was really itchy. it took 2 weeks to go away. i will not use this again. i do love Neautrogena blackhead eliminating scrub though!
This did not dry out my skin and I liked that but the pump leaked the product out way too much.
