I really like this cleanser. To me it's more of a scrub. It's pretty abrasive, but I feel like it really gets in pores and clarifies them. It has an herby, coaly smell, but I like it! It's definetely unique and one-of-a-kind. If my blackheads, and dead skin ever begin taking a toll on me I whip out the dark angels and scrub away! Now this won't cause your blackheads to go away, but I think it helps some. Good price for something that will last a LONG time, and perfect packaging.
I have been slowly working my way through the LUSH cleansers. I had to go to three different stores before I found one that had Dark Angels in stock. It is marketed as a cleanser, but I think it is more of a scrub. I really liked the grainy texture and thought it was more gentle than my usual apricot scrub. I used it daily after my cleanser and felt my skin get noticeably smoother. Minus one lippie for the messy factor. This scrub gets EVERYWHERE. After washing my face, I would have to blow my nose several times to make sure I got it all out. Also, make sure you rinse well as sometimes it can leave a grey film on your skin. I paid about $13 for 1/4 pound and still have about 1/5 of it left after 2 months. Will definitely repurchase.
This is an okay exfoliator, not a facial cleanser in my opinion. I went to lush and asked for a face wash for oily skin and this is they recommended. I found this product very messy to use! The black charcoal pieces get everywhere in my bathroom and stain my wash cloths. This stuff gets all over my clothes when I use it and really hurst if you get it in your eye! I tried using it in the shower and got too much water in the container which messed up the consistancy. ANYWAYS, to use this I pinch a small amount in my hand and mix it with water to make a paste, then I rub it into my face for a little bit and then rinse it off. You really have to wash this stuff off your face really well because the smears of black charcoal settle into your pores and with a bad lit bathroom you may not notice it. The results of this product was okay, it made my skin really smooth and soft but I found this too annoying to use and will not repurchase it again.
I have oily skin that is getting more normal with age, mostly concentrated in my T-Zone.
I use this when I'm breaking out or when I feel I need an exfoliator. You can vary the harshness of Dark Angels by the water/product ratio, which I love, depending if you're using it daily or a couple times a week. I like the smell and I believe this was the key product in getting my skin until control in my late teens when I was non stop breaking out. My skin feels soft and clean after using this. If you don't use this in the shower, you definitely need to use a toner or something to make sure you have rinsed off all of it after cleansing.
Just be careful when using this as you do not want to irritate your skin by adding too little water. This may not be for people with sensitive skin.
For reference - I have combo skin, oily t-zone and normal-dry on cheek bones. I loved the smell of this product, smells kind of like black jelly beans and aniseed only not as sweet. I also love that it's black, it's a lot of fun to use and it was funny seeing my dad's face (he's a coal miner) when I put it on. I have noticed that my skin is never as oily now, I used to hate touching my face in the morning because it would feel so oily, but it doesn't now, and I always use a moisturiser. This scrub is quite rough, but I am having no problems using it once a day. If you have sensitive skin I probably wouldn't recommend it though. While it does have an effect on the oiliness, and it definitely makes my face a lot softer, I wont be using this as my daily scrub anymore as it doesn't have an effect on my blackheads, and it doesn't seem to help prevent recurring breakouts. I may still use this once a week or so before a mask or something, but I'm going to try some other lush cleansers to see if one of those works for me.
This product costs around $18NZD for 100g here, which, considering how long it lasts, I really don't think is a huge price to pay. If I was having to buy this product every week I would probably complain. And as for the packaging, I'm lucky enough to live within 30mins of a lush store in one direction, and 1hr 30mins in the other so I was able to buy mine readily packaged in a little black tub. And for everybody who is complaining about sticking their fingers in the tub (it's quite shocking how many people do this), wouldn't it make a lot more sense to use a spoon/mini spatula to get product out? That way you don't introduce bacteria/water to it.
My skin is oily in the T-zone, plugged pores, some pimples...
I decided to buy this one, and I got also sample of herbalism.
And I LOVE this one! I use it 2 times a week usually, I use it as peeling before masks and sometimes as a mask.
Works very well, leaves skin cleaned, exfoliated, soft... I use it with Mask Of Magnaminty. And my skin now really looks better, does not shine that much, pores looks a bit better(not a miracle here..).
Yes its quite messy, black, not the most pleasant smell, but it works and I love it!
Lush markets this as a cleanser but it is really an exfoliant - you wouldn't use it every day. But I use it twice a week or so and really like it. It's kind of messy so I only ever use it in the shower, but I actually love the blackness! I feel like it's really good for my skin, although that could just be my mind.
It's a pretty rough exfoliant, although the grains are small, so your skin gets a really good rubbing. I try to remember not to use this at the same time as any kind of chemical exfoliant because I think it's just too much for anyone's skin, but as long as I remember that I'm really happy with it. I like to use it before my cosmetic warrior mask.
I never use this if my skin is broken out, so it's kind of my "good skin" exfoliant.
I'm not sure that this has any particular acne-fighting qualities, but I'm sure it does something. It certainly gives me a good glow post-use.
Great value - one pottle lasts ages because you only use a tiny bit at a time.
I used this after using angels on bare skin...and I have to say I wasn't all that pleased. The woman at the store was very curt with me when I told her I wasn't impressed by angels on bare skin (which really has nothing to do with the product, I know.). I explained that angels on bare skin had cleared up my acne prone skin as much as I would have liked, in fact, in some places it was worse. She told me this would be better.
For the first little while, a week and half or so, it was. My skin was visibly clearer...until it wasn't. I started breaking out more and I used this product for one month and there was no change. And it is VERY VERY messy! I used it in the shower because it was so messy and fussy. I usually like LUSH products, but this was a major let down.
Tonight I used the cleanser slightly differently, now I no longer have the black-residue problem that many other users also complained about. After the first use, I also had a bunch of black residue on my face. When I used the cotton ball to apply toner, the cotton ball turned grey. So I never touched the cleanser again -- it sat there for over half a year. Given so many good reviews, I decided to give it another try tonight. I followed the instructions exactly this time. I worked the product into a paste in my hand first, and then applied it to my face. After gently massaging my face, I let it sit on my face while taking the shower. About a minute or so later, I rinse off the product thoroughly, and it felt clean! To test whether any residue remained, I used the toner and there was nothing! I still need to wait and see how well it controls the oiliness over time. I will update later if any surprises arise.
I read some reviews of this and wanted to try it out. The price is so cheap. I'm not a fan of the container but oh well. I must be doing something wrong here because I'm one of the people who's face turns BLACK like a chimney sweep after using this! And it doesn't come off!!! I don't get how those of you who are getting it all rinsed off are doing it. No amount of scrubbing, rinsing, etc., will get this off. It's terrible! It also leaves an oily greasy residue on my face. It's really unfortunate because where my skin is actually rinsed, it's clean and exfoliated. The smell is pleasant. But the black residue is seriously bad. Is there some sort of trick to this? I make it into a paste, I tend to use it in the shower, I sometimes use a face cloth to rinse... EVERY SINGLE TIME no matter what I do it leaves the black goo. Unless Lush reformulates (again), I will not repurchase. I do not want to have to re-cleanse my face to remove the black residue after each use which is what I've had to do.
EDIT: I've changed my rating to 1 lippie just because the black residue problem is so atrocious. I stopped by a Lush store the other day and mentioned it to the SA who said to bring it back even though I no longer have the receipt for an exchange for another product. I will GLADLY return this terrible cleanser.
