I'm actually quite impressed with this mascara. It adds a lot of length and volume and holds a decent curl, even after 12 hours of wear. After about 8 hours, it smudged a little if I put it on my lower lashes, and it did flake a tiny bit after 8 hours or so, but that's about it. It takes a while to dry and can sometimes clump with a lot of coats or on the lower lashes (although every mascara I've tried does that). I put on two coats, curl it, let it dry, and then run an eyelash comb through my lashes, and they end up looking super-sexy. I love that the color is a deep black and not a grey or dark brown the way some "black" mascaras end up looking. The formula takes a bit longer to dry than some other mascaras, but that's not a big deal to me. Also, I got the non-waterproof formula and found that it comes off quite easily with water once you're ready to take it off. For the price, I'm very happy with this one and will definitely repurchase, as it gives me more length and volume for the price than pretty much any other mascara I've tried.
This is my HG of mascaras. Although a few members mentioned they do not see any visible difference between the carbon black and the original, I feel that the carbon black comes out much darker. The original is somewhat grayish, nothing wrong with that but I like the intensity of this product.
At first i thought i really liked this mascara but after using it a couple more times i feel like it clumps my lashes. It is very black though, so if you have fair lashes this would be amazing. But from trying different mascaras I realized i prefer the ones with a rubber wand so i wont be repurchasing this.
Gosh, why do I keep trying other mascara when this one is out there? It's still my favorite, besides a revlon mascara that is not made anymore. I've tried the deptarment store, expensive brands, and I still have not found anything that compares to this one. I love the black color of it. I love that it doesn't flake off during the day. I love that it separates my lashes, and adds a tiny bit of length, and volume. All around..........GREAT MASCARA.
OMG! why do I keep leaving Voluminous?! This is an oldy yet goody mascara that I have been using for 10 years. I always keep jumping to other mascaras just because I noticed that price has gone up to almost $9, or I just end up receiving samples of other mascaras so I stray away from it. I bought this recently again in Carbon Black color because it was on sale for $4.99 at walgreens, my conclusion is this is the mother of all mascaras. I think other mascaras have come close to this such as Mark Make it Big Mascara, Avon SuperShock and Too Faced Lash Injection but still this mascara lasts the longest, most mascaras I own dry out quicker due to the dry cold since I live in the north.
This mascara has really nice black pigmentation. However, my beautifully curled lashes completely went straight after application. WTH? This is something that I cannot deal with. I returned this immediately..
I bought the waterproof mascara. I love this Carbon Black color as it makes my eyelashes look very dark and dramatic. It also adds some length and volume. I apply only one coat as more coats cause clumping. After 2 months, the tube of mascara dries out, becomes clumpy, and has to be thrown out.
Added 03/15/10: I have found a way to wear 2 coats of mascara using Carbon Black. First I use one coat of Cover Girl Lash Blast Very Black waterproof mascara as a primer. Then I add one coat of L'Oreal Carbon Black mascara. The combination of these 2 mascaras is perfect as it makes my lashes look very long, thick, and dramatic. My girlfriends are asking for my "mascara secrets".
whenever i wear this mascara on my lashes, i always get complimented on my lashes or get asked if i'm even wearing fake lashes! i love that this mascara lengthens, dramatically volumizes, and stays put all day. my only complaint is that it seems like it takes forever to dry!
At first, I admit...i didn't like this mascara because it was really wet and made my lashes clumpy. The lashes were really black, similar, if not equal to, Diorshow Blackout, but the clumpiness put me off. Then, another day, i thought i'd give this mascara a final try...if i was unhappy with it, then with my other unwanted makeup junk, i'd toss it in the bin. However, i am really glad i gave this mascara another try because i LOVE it.
I had previously used Max Factor false lash effect, and i loved the effects of that...especially the definition, but it jus was not as pigmented as i wanted it to be. However, Loreals Voluminous in Carbon Black is solid black and defines and volumises, lengthens and curls really well...so i think i'd give the false lash effect award to this loreal mascara! :-)
I would highly recommend this mascara, but i would also like to warn you for the first messy usage, but stick to it and you will learn that although it requires a different technique, the patience is well ''worth it''! LOL
