Okay, so I also bought this as a dupe for MAC Vibrant Grape and Bright Future. I have to say, I wasn't expecting much from the purple, but was from the gold. The purple goes on nice and vibrant on my skin. I'm NW20. The texture is matte and yes, you do have to build it a bit but it does show up as a noticable grapey, purple shade. I use a stiff brush to apply, so maybe that is why I can get it to show up more. The gold is a very pretty vibrant, shimmery, yellow gold. Overall, this is a wonderful duo and I would buy it again.
I bought this duo because i heard it was a good dupe for MAC's Bright Future, and Vibrant Grape. I feel like I got my money's worth on this. The size of the pans are generous. The yellow side has great color payoff. The purple side doesnt have great color payoff. I applied mine over UDPP but next time I'm going to use a purple eyeliner as a base. I have a feeling it will improve the color. I like that the purple is a matte shadow in contrast to the frosty yellow. I liked this duo and I thought it was fun to play with.

Like in my previous reviews, I do like the HIP line, but this one falls flat. The color payoff on the yellow is mediocore, and the purple is basically non existant. I really wanted this duo because I love anything purple, and yellow is a color I normally wouldn't wear but since I got into makeup hardcore a couple months ago I promised myself I would branch out and try crazy colors. This is one is a flop. If the purple came by itself I would MAYBE consider it, but I doubt it. Look elsewhere for a better duo because this isn't it.
I bought this yesterday. Luckily it was buy one get one free so therefore I am not too perturbed. I've been on a hunt for a vibrant pretty purple, and unfortunately my search continues! I thought this purple would be va va voom...and is so was NOT!!! I had to apply about 4 layers to BARELY achieve any color or pigment. And even then, it was a really muted purple. I was not impressed whatsoever. I did not try the gold side yet. I also bought the Magnetic, Platinum, and Gilded duos...so luckily I will have better results. But like I said before thank goodness it was buy one get one free!
Purple is one of my favorite eyeshadow colors and the more bright and pigmented the better. I was really excited when I found this because the purple just looked gorgeous. I used it for awhile I applied it wet sometimes to help make the color bolder, not sure if its meant to be used wet but oh well. It does take time to apply because you do have to keep layering it to build it up which is annoying. I didnt really use the gold side I have like three or four of these comapcts where the purple side is all used and the gold side hasnt been touched.
After awhile i noticed my eyes were watering really bad, so bad it was taking the eyeshadow off with it and my eyelids started to itch. This stuff started to break me out on my eyelids. Im not sure why but im positive it was this eyeshadow because I stopped using it and the itcy eyes went away. Started using it again, the next day..itchy watery eyes again. So yeah I loved this at first but now I cant use it at all so boo!
My 5 stars is for the gold side. I ADORE it. My skin tone/eyes look great with it. My eyes seem brighter and awake when I wear it.
However, the purple. Not so much. It's weird, sometimes it works and sometimes it looks grey. I tend to mix it with another purple, but whats the point in that?
I will repurchase just because I love the gold so much.
The two colors in this duo are my favorites for eyeshadow, but when I put it on I noticed that the color doesnt apply evenly at all and doesn't last as long as other eye shadows I've tried. Although it looks nice when blended together with other eyeshadows.
I love the mirror and the applicator in the bottom of this, the packaging is very clever and easily the cutest and best part of the shadow.
This duo really disappointed me. The shimmery gold colour was really nice and pretty. It was nice and soft, easy to blend, what I'd expect. The purple in this duo however SUCKS. It's chalky, really hard, very sheer. Just horrible lol. Looks gross no matter what base I use.
Not the best HIP product and I wouldn't buy it again. The golden colour is pretty easily dupable, so not really worth the money for this particular duo.
The purple side of this compact sucks! It's sooo matte and almost sheer-like. Once, I wet it thinking that it would help bring out the color, but it ended up ruining the eyeshadow, so I really can't use the purple side of this compact. The golden-yellowish side is ok. I liked it when I used it but I don't use it much anymore.
