I got a little set of the shampoo and conditioner as a pressie, they worked very well but I was not a huge fan of the 'overripe banana' scent.. blargh, if you like the scent you will love this shampoo though.
TBS must bring this shampoo back!!! It's really one of a kind. I would pay twice or 3X its price if I could still get it. I've always had a great hair day with this shampoo. This is THE BEST shampoo (and conditioner) in the history of all shampoos I've ever tried. I like it much better than the current line of TBS shampoos. It just had this wonderful effect on my hair that's indescribable (silky, shiny, resilient, great body). It smells ok but the smell is not really that important. There are simply no other shampoos quite like this one. Period. TBS paired it with Banana Conditioner, which I rank the highest among conditioners. The other shampoos I've owned are Aveda Brilliance and Rosemary Mint, B&B Alojoba,Sea Weed, and others, all of which smelled fantastic but otherwise not memorable at all. I am always on a quest to find that perfect shampoo but alas... TBS had this gem forawhile but they had to discontinue it?!? IMO they're trying too hard to replace good products in their lineup too soon -it's not a fashion runway - I wish they cut that out. continued >>

Of all the shampoos I've ever used on my straight, fine, Asian hair, which is neither oily nor dry but lacks volume, The Body Shop's Banana Shampoo was the best. It was noticeably softer and smelled great too. Unfortunately, here in Manila, they tend to phase out Body Shop product lines really quickly! I'd love to get some more bottles of this, but it's no longer available in my part of the world :(
After a year of use, I still find this shampoo to be satisfyingly 'nourishing' (as the name claims) for my thick, coarse hair. Because I don't wash my hair everyday -- as that'd be damaging and over-drying -- many shampoos for my hair type leave my scalp a bit oily after a day or so, but with this shampoo my hair's softness and shine last several days. Nor have I experienced the residue/build-up some other reviewers note. (I haven't tried the banana conditioner; rather, I follow this with the Garnier Fructis Fortifying Deep Conditioner 3-Minute Masque -- which ends up overriding, unfortunately, TBS's yummy banana scent with its own less yummy green-apple-Jolly-Rancher scent -- but the two make a great pairing!) One lippie taken off for TBS' continued use of parabens in their products.
Excuse my lack of a more sophisticated vocabulary, but this smells SO FREAKING GOOD! The people at TBS must be idiots to discontinue this. I found a store that actually had these during the first day of the sale for a mere $4 so I grabbed a bunch. The SA even commented that she had better set aside a few for herself before they all disappear! This one NEEDS to come back as part of TBS's regular hair care line.
I was surprised to find that the smell of this shampoo was like real bananas. It gave me a very natural feel just because of the smell, unlike the kind of artificial smell you can find in most of other shampoo products on the market.
Ok, I will admit it, I bought this simply because of the scent. You cannot find anything banana scented that actually smells like real bananas, and this smells like real bananas. I have bought this on and off since 1992, and am sorry that they have discontinued it. It may not be the best performing shampoo ever, but it is decent, and for God's sake, it smells like real bananas!
I thought htis shampoo was okay. It was a fine, gentle cleanser. I liked how it left my hair very soft. But halfway throught the bottle my hair just felt blah. I'll finish it, but I won't buy another.
The banana smell is quite pleasant, but this and the conditioner dried out my hair and made it really flyaway and frizzy.
