A very expensive (CAD 50) disappointment... It looked really great in the shop - I loved the smell and the colour (01 light) as well as consistency. Having been bitterly disappointed with some cheaper brands, but still hooked on the "all-in-one" idea, I decided to invest in Estee Lauder, which I generally like a lot. But the consistency turned out to be far too thick to blend in, and my oily skin would end up VERY shiny within 1-2 hours...
I'm not saying it's a bad product but it simply does not suit me.
However, having read some other reviews I'm now going to experiment with applying it on top of various moisturizers and possibly using powder on top. Will report back if discover a combination that works for me :)
This is the first BB cream I have ever used, so I have nothing to compare this too. I've read countless reviews about other BB creams leaving your skin oily, so after doing some research I decided to go with this one. In the morning I wash my face with clinique's 3-step acne system, then I put this BB cream on after and apply some of my bare minerals foundation over it. This BB cream didn't make my face look/feel oily at all, and I think it actually controlled some of the excess surface oil on my face throughout the day. What I liked most about this was how moisturized my face felt all day. I didn't think this cream was too heavy, and my makeup still went on fine after putting this on. The only reason why I did not give this a 5 for an overall rating was because it has a slightly strong sunscreen smell to it, while it claims to have a cucumber scent- which you can somewhat smell, I think it has more of sunscreen scent.
This is a great found for my rosacea skin, it covers well, and on a good day I do not have to use make-up over this. I wish there were a better colour selection and a little more staying power and less thickness, but any of this isn't big problem, because to find cream which does not make me break out, even my skin and makes it really look better is not easy. Definitive stay in my skin care. Love this one!
**Updated 11/10/2012 ** I am so, so, soooo pale and likely have undiagnosed rosacea. I'm an easy blusher - not a pretty Princess Diana blusher. A lifetime lobster type of blusher.
That said, after reading reviews here last winter I tried Revlon's Colorstay Foundation #110 to cover up some acne scarring. I liked it well enough but found that if I wasn't very careful it looked like my face was cast for a mold and I forgot to clean up the aftermath.
Last spring I wandered past an Estee Lauder counter not intending to purchase anything at all (it was my grandmother's makeup, after all), but was dazzled by the lipstick display and paused for a look. The girl behind the counter introduced me to this product. Though I had my heart set on a particular shade of lipstick I ended up with this - ouch quite expensive - BB creme. Honestly I think I mostly bought it because I fell in love partially with how it looked but also with it's light, fresh, cucumber smell.
I didn't expect to love it as much as I loved it under those department store lights, but I do. And this little bottle has lasted from March until September and I still haven't run out. Though I've used powder over it, I prefer it without. I still use Revlon's Photoready primer underneath it (even though I know this is supposed to be a primer too). The very complexion that has always been kind of a bane to my existence looks rather dewy fresh under this stuff. I'm loving it.
I've ordered the Missha BB creme just to give it a go - I'm curious about the source of the BB creme craze. But overall, given how long this has lasted it's a great value for the money and I'm happy with it. A little goes a long way with this product.
11/10/2012 Update - I did indeed order the Missha Total Coverage BB Creme 21 from Amazon seller seoulglamour as recommended by other reviewers. I was completely turned off by the smell which is just yick. But I gave it a go, and haven't been back to the EL BB creme since. It may be a seasonal thing, because I do think the lighter EL coverage was perfect for summer. But I'm sold on Missha now. I'll save further analysis for that product itself.
Looks beautiful on, controls oil well and gives a beautiful dewy finish which I loved. So I was fooled at first and used it for months to even out my complexion before I realized that it was probably the cause of all the little congested pores I've been getting all over, even on my cheeks which I never get! Argh!! After stopping, my skin cleared up a lot. The cream is pretty thick and heavy, especially in comparison to tinted moisturizers like Laura Mercier and Tarte. I've switched to Tarte's Smooth Operator tinted moisturizer (now also labelled as bb cream by Sephora) and I love it, much lighter in texture and no breakouts so far! It's also paraben and fragrance free, and has lots of natural ingredients which I love.
This BB cream has a creamy texture which smells like a cucumber and you feel very refreshed when you put this o your face.
On the contrary of EL claim, this has nothing with the moisturizing effect. If you have oily skin with no acne marks or acne I am sure that you will love this BB cream.
Coverage is almost same like a tinted moisturizer (maybe a little more) However if you expect to cover acne, acne scars, acne mark and etc, this product will not meet your requirements.
As a NC 20 girl i picked up the lightest shade: LIGHT and it was okay for me (Not a perfect match but was good)
I can say that this shade may look yellowish but it has also pink undertone. By the way i have used many different brushes to apply it evenly but i could not succeed. I think using fingertips is the best way to apply this evenly on your face.
I like it has 35 spf and anti-oxidant properties but it is expensive for this coverage and dry feel. Please ask for sample before you buy it
This is my first BB cream and I am quite impressed so far. I was never one for foundations, opting for a light concealer where needed and powder to top it off. But this gal has been feeling the strain of a busy life, so she needed a little "pick-me-up-off-the-floor" to refresh her look. At first, my skin broke out into a couple of small zits. Nothing to panic about, then settled after a week of continuous use. A miracle product from an established cosmetic/skin care icon: foundation, concealer and matte finish all rolled into one squeeze tube. I also like the fact that you don't need a lot of product for the desired effect and medium shade blends well into my olive/tan skin. Will purchase again.
This is my HG "foundation" at the moment. It's creamy and very blendable and covers the redness in my skin without looking like I have anything on at all, even in bright sunlight. I love the smell and the packaging, the squeezy tube is very good and it doesn't squeeze out too much product which is good because a little goes a long way with this. I have dry skin and can use this with no powder on top and even without concealer (which is a big deal for me, cause I have a bit of redness in my skin and blueness under the eyes). It makes me look very fresh and awake and like I don't have makeup on at all. I like that it has high SPF, but I don't know if it will flashback on camera.
Finish: slightly dewy and fresh, covers well
Price: a bit pricey where I live but I think it is worth it
Color range: not very good.. Though the color 02 medium is a perfect match for me now in the summer when I'm quite tan. Would love to have a shade between the light and the medium because the light is very fair.
Overall it's a product that worked very well for me, I absolutely adore it.
I don't get the hype of this product. For me this is just another foundation with few color choice. Texture is pretty thick and coverage is obvious. Does not feel like skincare at all. I also detected the typical SPF smell from it. This is not what I expected for a BB cream. Disappointed.
I really like the look and feel of this product, it gave me a sheer beautiful complexion without shine (I have combination skin and usually have to use powder several times a day, but not with this product, it mattified my t-zone well) - however, on the third day wearing this I developed some pimples on my cheeks, so I stopped using it. I guess now I will just be using it for an evening at at time when I am going out, but it's not fit for everyday wear which is pity. My search for the ideal TM continues, it seems most products on the market will dry my cheeks or make me break out...
