I bought this mascara because I had read some pretty good reviews on this website as well as the reviews on Sephora's website. After taking 2 days to decide between Bare Escentuals Buxom Lash or Make Up For Ever Aqua Smoky Lash, I decided to go try out the waterproof one. I hadn't bothered to take a look at the tester before purchasing this one. BIG MISTAKE. I normally would check out the brush for all mascaras that I buy, but for some odd reason, I hadn't for this one. I just picked it up, paid for it and left Sephora.
I'm the type who's ALWAYS excited to try new makeup products, so I rush home and quickly apply this stuff on my eyelash. I was very disappointed in this product. First off, the brush was all wonky and not a brush I was used to for a volumizing mascara. The bristles weren't densely packed and thick. It's one of those weird rubbery ones and it's all spikey all over. There's a bunch of spaces in between that traps a lot of product and will basically clump up and make a mess of your lashes when you apply. This brush is also very bad for people who have sparse/thin/short eyelashes. It'll basically give you spider lashes and product always seem to get onto my lids when I try to apply this stuff onto my lashes. It also clumps a lot (due to the excess amount of product on the wand) and makes your lashes look sickly. I basically had to use a lash comb as well as a CLEAN spare mascara wand to remove a lot of the excess mascara off my lashes to correct the spidering.
The effects of this mascara is a whole different story. After having to correct all the nastiness that is this mascara.... It did make my lashes longer, but the volume was almost nonexistent. My lashes still look just as wimpy as it did without this stuff on, just longer. It did however, do a great job as a waterproof mascara. I tried the crying test and wiping my eyes with kleenex, and lo-and-behold, no mascara residue on the tissue. Or perhaps it's all due to the fact that I had to remove a lot of this gunk off my eyelashes because it was a clumpy excessive mess, and had left hardly any product on my lashes? Either way, no mascara on the tissue. This product did flake all day though. That is VERY disappointing. It also smudged a bit through out the day, though not as badly as Diorshow did.
Removal of this mascara is fairly simple. A good eye makeup remover (I use Neutrogena) will do the job just right. However everytime I remove this mascara off my lashes, I always seem to lose a few lashes along the way. This is a big no no for me. And it's not like I'm rubbing my lids with makeup remover either. I'm just dabbing at my lashes, being as gentle as possible..... All in all, this is a very disappointing mascara. The brush was what made me dislike this product the most. I will never buy this product again, nor would I recommend it for people with sparse/thin/short lashes.
I've gone through a few tubes of this and have to say this is my favorite mascara. I love that it gives me volume and holds curl well. This along with my Shu Uemura lash curler gives me a false eyelashes look, and I have short straight Asian lashes. My only complaint is when I first open this the first couple weeks it can be really clumpy and wet, and I have to wait for it to dry out a little bit which can be annoying.
I really wasn't expecting much from this mascara. I'm not sure why since it is highly recommended by a few of the YouTube gurus that I like. I'm glad that I caved and purchased it because I absolutely love it. It is very black and makes my puny lashes impossibly long. It also volumizes quite well. It claims to give curl, which I don't see on my lashes. I've worn this in the rain, I've cried with it on, even worn it in the shower. It truly is waterproof and as such can be a little difficult to remove. My only real complaint is that it's not the kind of mascara that I can quickly put on and go because it will clump on me so I have to take my time. As a result, I get gorgeous lashes so it's worth the effort.
It's love! I generally don't go for waterproof mascaras as I find them difficult to remove (and that happens to be my ONLY complaint about this one!), but for how amazing this mascara is the extra work for removal is totally worth it!! I got this in the Beauty in a Box Kit from Sephora, making it a much better deal than on its own. This mascara is jet black, volumizes and lengthens, and HOLDS A CURL like no mascara I've tried before! Seriously, I put this on the other day before my 18 hours of travel from Singapore to San Fran-- when I landed in SF, the mascara had not flaked or smudged, and STILL held a curl. Needless to say, I would not hesitate to repurchase!
I bought this mascara looking for a natural mascara I could wear at school but also at weekends. I wanted waterproof just because I think it's always better to be on the safe side! On the product it say's Length, Curl and volume. I do believe that it lengthens and make's your lashes look voluminous but it doesn't curl. It also defines each of your lashes and I haven't seen it clump to date! Overall I think its a great product and anyone can use it!
I can't understand how this mascara doesnt get a better rating - I'm loving this mascara...it's fabulous!!! This was recommended to me as I was on the search for a waterproof mascara for my upcoming wedding...I have tried pretty much all of them and I absolutely love this mascara - I plan to get the regular smokey lash - but due to the summer months - I reach for waterproof. Give it a shot - it's should receive more love!!!
I'm always on the quest for the best WP mascara and this is the best I've used to date! For reference, I have very straight, fine and short asian lashes.
PROS: The formula makes them long, full, super black, and keeps it curled. For me, this outweighs the following cons....
CONS: 1 lippie off for price and the following reasons...initially, expect the formula to be a little more wet than most mascara's but after a few more uses it thickens/dries to make it easier to use to build up lashes better. Other complaint is that it does smudge. I believe it is waterproof but not oily complexion proof. I''ve had this problem with all mascaras though.
MUFE Aqua Smokey Lash will be my HG until there's something that comes along that performs just as well and doesn't smudge.
This is a really great mascara, but you will need a lash comb or a spoolie to clean it up a bit. Once you do that you will have huge dark sexy lashes. I work at a pharmacy and I've had so many people ask if I'm using Latisse, and get many "Wow what mascara are you wearing". A keeper for me definitely.
I had high hopes for this mascara and it completely let me down. I thought this was a waterproof mascara??? I had smudging one day underneath my eyes and I thought my eyeliner was to blame. I decided not to use eyeliner the next day to see and it was the mascara. I love the way this mascara makes my eyelashes look overall, but the whole purpose of waterproof mascara is NO SMUDGING! I took off 2 lippies; one for that and one for the price!
EDIT: I gave back a lippie. As much as I don't think a waterproof mascara should smudge at all! I do LOVE the way this looks and will continue using it. I hope MUFE reformulates this. This would be my great if it was really WP!
What an awful mascara. Yes, it is volumizing, however, it clumps like crazy, which makes applying this mascara a pain. Additionally, it smudges a lot, so that after a few hours most of the mascara can be found underneath my eyes and not on my lashes (and I only apply mascara to my upper lashes). I did not experience any problems removing this mascara using an oil based eye make up remover. Would not buy this again.
