I am 45 and have never written a review for a product! I just had to write about this concealer so save many of you the search for an awesome product...
I have had dark circles since my early 20's and over the years tried many different concealers. This has to be hands down the best under eye concealer I have ever used... A little goes a long way and goes on smoothly, does not settle in fine lines, stays put all day with out drying out my eyes. It has good buildable coverage as well as slightly brighening the eye area.... I brought the Light 3 Honey which has a peachy tone, perfect for under eye colour correction. I am usually about a NC30-NC35.
This is my HG under eye Concealer...
I freaking love this stuff! Creamy, opaque, erases darkness, doesn't accentuate fine lines, just awesome! I find that there's two main categories of people. Those who prefer creamier concealers for undereyes and those that prefer thinner ones. For instance, I can't stand Mac Pro long wear concealer or the maybelline instant age rewind dark circle eraser, but I LOVE Nars radiant creamy concealer, Bobbi brown corrector, benefit erase paste, and tarte maracuja concealer. If you like the one's I just mentioned, you may love this. This concealer isn't quite as creamy and hydrating as the others I just mentioned and seems to dry to a more Demi matte finish, but I don't find it drying either. I still set with a light dusting of powder, but can get away with not setting it whereas the others really need to be set with powder. LOVE this stuff ;-)
Very nice texture and coverage but no shades at all for me. Vanilla is too light, Honey and Custard just wrong. So far Shiseido in 2B (with powder and liquid foundations) and Lancome in Clair II (with liquid) are better matches for undereye area. I would even have forgiven the wand applicator for the right shade match. If you can find a color match for sure worth a try.
I really hate going against the grain on this one. I had heard amazing things about this concealer, watched videos and just generally stalked this product before purchasing. In Sephora I had an employee color match me (Custard). It is a creamy but thinish liquid that is very opaque and pigmented. I don't know that I'd actually call it a radiant concealer. When applied it seems to set pretty quickly and it doesn't really budge. My problems with it were that it seemed to oxidize and become obvious after only an hour or two and it actually did crease under my eyes. Not acceptable with such a pricey product. I could have probably tried a different color and tweaked the application process but that's just too much work.
This concealer is pretty amazing if you can find a color match..I have to mix Chantilly which is the lightest color with Vanilla which is the second lightest...which makes me wish the price wasn't so steep at $28 a piece. The first time I tried it I got just the Vanilla because I knew Chantilly would make me look ghostly because I use this as an undereye and spot concealer so basically I blend it into my whole face for an even look. Unfortunately Vanilla had too much of a pink undertone to it and I need more of a neutral or yellowy/beige tone for my skin. Needless to say I went back and purchased Chantilly to mix with the Vanilla hoping it'd lighten and neutralize the pink. I can't say its a spot on match but it's pretty great. I even got a sample of Custard to mix with the Chantilly and it was a bit too dark, I probably need about a 3:1 ratio with Chantilly being the majority but I'm still experimenting. It took me a couple tries to find the right brush to apply this concealer with. I really do not like doe foot applicators because they spread bacteria plus I always feel concealers that come in that style packaging are a waste because you can never get all of the product out in the end. I really wish this was in a squeeze tube but oh well.
Anyways I use my Sonia Kashuk flat top brush and dot the concealer directly onto the brush (since i mix the 2 colors I put them side by side or one on top of the other directly on the brush) then tap it onto the skin to blend in. I even use that method for undereyes...sometimes very light buffing. This method takes a lot longer than simply swiping the concealer directly onto skin with the doe foot applicator but the finish comes out beautifully and it gives me full coverage, no foundation needed. This stuff covers everything (active acne, acne scars, undereye circles, sun damage) and it doesn't take much!! If I'm in a rush I have from time to time just swiped the concealer right on and used my fingers to pat and blend it in but I found it looked really thick this way. Using a brush made the finish a bit more natural looking in my opinion because I use less product this way. Also I do recommend using a setting powder because it tends to separate or pool into the pores as the day goes on but nothing that a little blot can't help.
I will say my skin is very sensitive to any products i put on it. I'm super clog prone and I've never found a makeup product that has not clogged me. This concealer is no exception. I've been using this concealer daily since June and I do feel I've gotten more clogged pores from it due to the many types of dimethicones in it but no major cystic breakouts or rashes which a lot of other products cause for me. Its mostly my fault since I wear makeup daily but I'm more comfortable that way.
The first time I used this product, I absolutely hated it. It creased, made my under eye area look dry and was just not pleasant. I slowly reduced the amount I was using every day until I found the right balance and now I absolutely LOVE this concealer. I have seen people on YouTube and everywhere just slathering this stuff on and that is WAY too much. This is extremely pigmented. I use one dot under my eyes, one dot on either side of my nose and one dot on either side of my mouth. I blend those all in then go back and do one more dot under each eye, lower down, sort of at the bottom of my orbital bone as it helps hide my bags and also helps highlight my cheeks a bit. It does a very good job of brightening up my skin and covering what I need it to cover. The price on this is fairly high but after using it and seeing how little is needed, it will last a very long time which makes it worthwhile. I am NW20 and got the color Vanilla which is an excellent match.
I like this but it doesn't cover my dark circles completely. I use it over a corrector and that works better. Don't use too much or it will cake in fine lines. It works well on my upper lids as well.
I LOVE this concealer! I have tried almost everything and nothing compares to this! I use this for my HORRIBLE hereditary dark circles and this concealer covers it right up without looking cakey, oily, etc. It lasts all day and doesn't crease either! I havent tried this on blemishes just yet but if you need something for your under eyes, this is definitely the one! It has all shades for everyone's unique skin tone. All I do is dot it under my eyes and blend!! I highly recommend this product!
Overall a very good concealer. Almost perfect but not as opaque as I'd like it to be (I have BAD under eye circles). It is very crease resistant. I am an NC25 (NW20 u/e) and Custard is perfect on my face & OK under my eyes. I recently purchased Vanilla specifically for u/e area but I think it's a tad too light. I find Nars to be good enough to double as a foundation & a concealer. I don't really use foundation as it was intended to be used-I only spot conceal on my cheeks, around my eyes & on & around my nose. In the past, I used a stick concealer but now I just dot Nars Radiant Concealer in those areas & blend in w/ a kabuki brush. I always need extra coverage on sides of nose & under eyes so I just dot & pat additional concealer on, as needed. The end result is very natural. I think it's an almost perfect product other than the fact that it's just not as opaque enough as I need it to be to cover my very obvious u/e circles.
So far I really like this product. Photographs well which was what I was looking for. I continued to have photos where my undereye was white. This concealer does not do this. My colour is biscuit which is great for summer. I do have some fine lines under my eyes this concealer does not make them look better or worse does however conceal dark circles.
