Ok, I had to update on this makeup. First I have used mineral makeup for years starting with BE...then recently to Urban Decay which was working well for awhile but then started to make me breakout. I went into Sephora looking for something and the nice male employee showed me how to apply this and helped me with color selection. I have to say I was impressed and also when I first bought this I was putting it on a bit wrong. Even though the makeup looks very milled up...since there are pearls in it you have to really stir and stir and push that brush into it before application to crush up the pearl powder more. When I did it wrong it settled into lines...done the correct way the lines I do have look awesome and light perfecting. So a bit of a note...try to crush that powder up really well with that brush..it may make a differance. Also, I found out that Urban Decay uses A LOT of perservatives in thier MM so that is probably what started to break me out.
switched to all Mercier Mineral Makeup from being BE user for years now. I like BE but by midday I was really shiny, which I know has to do with most mineral makeup in general. Well I read all the great reviews on here and decided to give this whole line a try. I bought the foundation in the beige color, the bronzer, finishing powder and the mineral makeup primer. I didn't care for it all that much. I think the bronzer was the best out of all of that and will hold out on reviewing that one as I may end up using and keeping that. But the foundation didn't match my skintone very well, made me look a bit dirty and it seemed to also accentuate any little lines I did have. I know everyone's chemistry is different and obviosly this mineral makeup is working well for other but I am the minority and it did not workout for me. So I will bot be repurchasing it and took them all back to Sephora. I am giving Cover FX makeup line a try as they also have a natural mineral makeup they offer with their line of makeup and a ton of different colors to choose from which is great. It seemed to work out good trying out in the store but will review after I have used it for some time.
I LOVE this mineral foundation!!! after trying out so many of them i finally found the one! it covers well without caking after a few hours and looks soooo natural!!!!!!!!!! I gave it a 4 because i think they need to come up with more shades! overall, i love this!!! EDIT: IT BROKE ME OUT! i dunno whats in it that made me broke out but it did. As soon as i stopped using it my skin cleared!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I found something better from Laura Merciers line anyways. I LOVE their moisturizing foundation!
I've used Jane Iredale and was very happy with the product, but I had to buy two to get the right the color and that's too expensive for my budget. So I decided to try this. The color is great. I've gotten so many compliments on my complexion (not the makeup) since I've started using this product. I use this with my Cat Cosmetics Kabuki Brush. My only gripe is (& this may not be the product) my oily skin can cause the makeup to "slip" sometimes, so I took off a lippie. I do live an active lifestyle & I should allow for that. I do love this mineral makeup and have repurchased.
Love this. I've switched from BE. The texture is beautiful and the coverage is not as shiny or heavy on me as the BE (which can be a pro or con depending upon what you're trying to cover). It doesn't make me itch like the BE but it does contain bismuth oxychloride in case anyone is allgeric.
I use it in conjunction with the mineral bronzer which is HG for me now. I'd like to try the mineral primer to experiment with how it affects the application. For now, I apply tinted moisturizer underneath if I want more coverage.
I use this with the LM brush that came out with it. Also love the moveable sifter on the packaging.
UPDATE 4/2007: I'm downgrading this a bit (5 to 4). When I started using this my skin was in decent shape but now I have a bit more to cover & I can't get the coverage I need unless I appy a lot & then it looks chalky & obvious. I still think it's nice for sheer coverage & skin that's not horribly dry.
How have I not reviewed this before? I am about to buy my second tub - that's how much i like it. I have this in real sand and it's a perfect match for my skin. This in conjunction with the mineral prime gives me a flawless face. Of all the mmu I've tried this is by far the best one.
I bought this a long time ago and liked it, but stopped using it for two reasons: 1. the time it took to apply all three steps, and 2. my face had dry patches that looked bad under a powder foundation. I recently started using a Clarisonic exfoliator, and that made all the difference in appearance. It looks absolutely perfect now that I am exfoliating daily. It is light-feeling and stays put surprisingly well, and the coverage is even. I have officially brought this out of retirement!
okay so i was desperately wanting to like mineral powder foundation...but after sever attempts (bare escentials, jane iredale) i was ready to throw in the towel. all of the others i had tried would make my skin itch and break out...not to mention that it makes your skin look way too sparkly. an awful thing if you already have oily skin like i do. so after seeing all the good reviews on this product i thought what the hell...i went to nordstrom and purchased it in tender rose. at first i thought, hmm...not sure, but let me tell you that for me, this is the HG of mineral powder foudnations. it does NOT break you out or irritate you and the color matched my skin perfectly. here's a tip -- apply it with a soft powder brush and then buff it into your skin with a flocked sponge (jane iredale actually makes a good one) or a cotton ball. when you wait about 20 mins it looks so good you can't believe it. and for everyone who says it has no staying power i could not disagree more. i am from ca, but i wore it for an entire week (all day long) in georgia (major humidity) and it stayed put until i washed it off, and yes as i said before, i have REALLY oily skin. if you're still looking for the HG of mineral foundations and have tried them all then try this before you give up. i looooove it. and i never thought i would find a good one.
Pricey but totally worth it, especially when compared to BE! I loved the natural-looking, even coverage, and the slight glow it gave me without looking oily in the slightest. I have this in Real Sand and it's absolutely PERFECT for my pale Asian skin. It wasn't too dark and didn't get any darker when I layered, and most importantly, it didn't turn ORANGE the way BE did. My experience with MMU is minimal, but for now this is my HG in the field!
EDIT: I made a point to come back and post a review of this HORRIFIC product. I had never really been using it frequently (see reasons why below) but in the last week wanted something less oily than regular foundation so started using LM mineral powder on a daily basis. I noticed I was breaking out on my forehead and cheeks, but thought this might have to do with stress/diet. My cleansing regime didn't change. However, as the week went on I developped more and more large painful pimples on my chin and forehead. I finally realized it was the foundation, especially if I wore it during the day and then went to the gym. I cannot believe this product gave me such a reaction. I usually never have skin this bad. I have stopped using it and am trying to heal my skin (which is slowly improving) but I also threw this product in the trash, where it belongs. Several reviewers commented on the bismuth ingredient, which may well be the culprit in this case. Buyer beware!
I have held off in reviewing this product, to give it a fair chance. I have never used mineral make up before and was very excited to try LM's version. I found this great rep at NM who was very enthusiastic about the product. She also was trying to save me money and sold me a cheaper (I think) short travel brush from LM to apply. I really do not like how this product made my skin feel. I have very oily skin and I notice this sticky film as the day wears on when I wear it. Also, I didn't particularly love the finish/coverage. AND, the brush is AWFUL. It drops so many pieces of hair each time I use it, I have to lean over the sink to catch most of it, and it feels very rough and irritating on my skin. I was in a different store buying my new favorite blush (Nars Noumia) and complained about this product. The SA told me to try and use a lot less, and to use a different brush. Not wanting to spend yet more money on a product I may end up returning, I have been using an old Mac blush brush, and applying it more lightly. I have to say that it does look a bit better than previously, and the brush is definitely an improvement. However, I still am not crazy about the finish. I look to foundation to really even things out and this product just doesn't meld with my skin at all. In all fairness, I haven't tried the primer or finishing powder, but right now I am put off enough by this to try something else all together.
I love this mineral foundation. I've used BE for years and didn't like the glowy affect as I'm getting older. The only problem was I ordered 3 different colors and finally the rich vanilla seems to be a very close match. The colors are darker than BE so I was just using that as a guide. Oh well, I suppose I can mix when summer comes around. All in all I think this has the most natural look of any others, I've also tryed samples and never liked any enough to consider changing until now. Love the packaging, so easy to travel with, couldn't be happier.
