I've been on the hunt for a long-wearing foundation that isn't heavy or give full coverage (I prefer a more natural look), and on top of that with yellow undertones or at least neutral tones. I've tried Shiseido (LOVE the feel and look of their Dual Balancing foundation, however it didn't do much for my oil control), Lancome, Clinique and so far none have been to my satisfaction.
I saw that EL's Double Wear foundation has a relatively high score w/a large number of reviews, so I went to the EL website and saw they had a light version of their regular foundation. So I went in to get color matched and the SA recommended Intensity 1.0 for my skin.
+ Doesn't settle into my pores
+ Actually keeps me relatively matte for an extended period of time
+ Looks fresh even after several hours
+ Light feel and looks natural while giving me the coverage I want (light coverage)
+ Packaged in a squeeze bottle
- More on the pink side
- Needs more color selections; for how relatively popular it is, it doesn't have the amount of shades to match
- Low SPF; wish it had at least SPF 15
The price is not terrible (US$34), but I feel that it's a pretty quality product and you don't need much to cover your face. This is the first foundation in my search that I'm actually pretty satisfied with. It's oil-free, fragrance-free and non-acnegenic. If it does end up breaking me out, I will be sure to update. Otherwise I think I found a great foundation for my oily skin!
EDIT: Unfortunately, the pink tones in the foundation were too noticeable upon better inspection. Not so good for my Asian yellow-toned skin. I ended up returning it. If you're cool or neutral-toned though, it might be a good match. continued >>
If regular Double Wear is too heavy for you, this is a fantastic alternative. I picked it up because I felt like Double Wear was too heavy for summer, even though it provides better coverage.
This stuff blends well (I use combination of both a normal and flat top foundation brush to apply), looks pretty natural, and photographs well. I use intensity level 1 and it matches my skin nicely. It's a much more sheer coverage than regular Double Wear, but it's supposed to be (hence the "Light"). I don't find it to be quite as buildable as regular Double Wear is, but using a little concealer to cover the few spots I feel need more cover works fine for me. I tend to set it with a light powder, as I prefer a slightly more matte look to my makeup. I would suggest blending with a flat-top brush after applying - I find those are an HG for smooth/natural looking application with no streaks.
The best part about this makeup? It LASTS. And lasts and lasts. A little goes a long way and it survived on my face all day in Hawaiian heat and humidity and even sea water (mostly) while I was on vacation. I put it through the ultimate test and now know that I LOVE this stuff. HG for sure, though I will probably still use Double Wear during winter or times I feel I want more coverage. Both are fantastic foundations.
I start by saying that I have an oily T-zone and dry skin in rest.
Due to the fact that I have large pores in my nose area that are hard to deal with when it comes to foundation I cannot use powder or matte foundations because they will "enhance" my pores so I have to be careful.
So double wear light has the following characteristics:
It is a liquid foundation, very light, easy to blend
Covers well the redness and also blemishes
Doesn't sink into the pores or make them extra obvious
Has a hygienic packaging and this is a big advantage for germ-aholics like me
Gives a dewey-matte finish
Doesn't break me out
Very good staying power even during summer time
Definitely not for dry skin
(I think for oily skins with smaller pores this would be their HG)
I didn't repurchase it
But I did purchase the Estee Lauder Vita-Mineral Nutritious which has a dewey finish and it is excellent regarding large pores(HG for me at this moment)
I love this foundation! It's the best I've tried so far. I have oily skin and most foundations just melt right off after a few hours, the only thing that's ever stayed on was my revlon colourstay but I was so sick of it, it didn't look very natural and I couldn't get the right shade so decided to go to Estee Lauder. I first tried many samples of the Double Wear which just looked like a white mask painted onto my face, no matter what shade I got it was too white and too mask like. So I tried the Light version and the color match was as near as I'll ever get and the foundation itself is very good. It offers coverage without looking cakey, goes on smooth and gives a nice finish. You do have to make sure you blend it though. The shades in the light version are a lot better and I would deffo recommend this foundation. Though for £24.50 the tube is tiny! But very convenient as it's a squeeze tube which I love :)
Estee Lauder makes the best skin products. Only foundation that looks good on me and not cakey. Just wish it was in a bigger bottle.
Oh my God, I'm still not sure whether I'll be a fan of EL LIGHT.
I've got this a week ago, and used around 4 times.
- It's absolutely natural.
- Feels very light.
- Goes on like a dream to blend.
- Semi matt finish (For me since am oily)
- long lasting
- Doesn't cover well, goes on very sheer to me.
- To my taste, I have to use a lot of product to cover my face. (Don't scold me, but believe me, I used the tester of Clarins foundation 1.5 ml for 10 days!!)
- Absolutely no coverage for my pores (they are not soooo big ;)
-God, please NO, but I'm afraid am getting some breakouts due to this :(
- Stupid color ranges, I couldn't get my exact color, I got one shade thicker than my skin tone (SUMMER TIME!! but it's still so natural)
I'll use it after a week, and update the review do I really get tiny breakouts due to this. Overall if someone would like to use a foundation, which is absolutely NATURAL, then this is the one!!
This is truly one of the most natural looking foundations i have ever tried! It doesnt make me look flat like most foundations, it gives a very nice finish and lasts the whole day.
I always have this in my makeup drawer. I end up trying other brands and always come back to this one. Gives long wearing, natural looking coverage. Looks great in photos too. I tried the regular double wear and didn't like it as well. The colors are great too. I heart Estee Lauder.
This is my HG foundation. I've purchased this product a total of 3 times. If that doesn't say I love it I don't know what does. Intensity 1 is the perfect match for me and it stays on all day/evening while looking very natural the entire time. Once I strayed and bought some Mary Kay liquid foundation. I'll never make that mistake again. Going back to Double Wear Light was like coming home. My makeup looks fresh and radiant again. I would highly recommend this to anyone.
I swore I'd never buy h/e foundation again because I love my Rimmel Lasting Finish so much, but this foundation is worth every penny and my Rimmel foundation has been put away. This is very light and sheer, layers well when I want more coverage, lasts all day, does not rub off, lasts through my 45-minute workouts, makes my pores almost invisible, and eliminates the need for concealer. This is a perfect foundation. $33.00 USD. Highly recommended.
