Seriously, I am a newbie in makeup and i had try pencil, liquid, autopen, and gel eyeliner..of course, pencil eyeliner are the easiest to go on but it just won't last, liquid eyeliner took me at least half an hour to do it perfectly. I could say that my hands are quite stable but it still takes me half an hour to get it done!! I bought Kate powder gel eyeliner after looking through soo many reviews and made my decision finally. And i am really impressed by it!! it took me less than 2 secs to do a perfect line!!! with just one sweep and i am done!! As for the staying power, it made my day. I have oily lids and it stayed. It stayed!! Which is kind of miracle to me..no smudging, just a perfect line on my lids. And the effect was better than liquid eyeliner as it brings out a more natural effect on your eyes. I was actually swaying between maybelline and kate, b.brown and shu uemura was out of my price range, as this is my first gel eyeliner, want to try the effect first. I wasn't that confident in Maybelline. So i went for kate instead. Glad I did! The brush that comes along was supple!! and did a great job. Not too soft, just great!! Give this a try!!
additional: it does smudge when i tried the winged look...

Easy to apply. Just enough softness and sharpness to define your eyes. Doesn't smudge. Affordable. Amazing!
I LOVE THIS EYELINER! I absoutely adore it.
I bought this in Japan in the navy blue and forest green. They both have shimmer. Oddly, every drug store I've been to does not have samples for this product on display.
Anyway, I have used L'Oreals Lineur Intense liquid eyeliner for several years now and although I love that eyeliner, I'm too scared to use it for my bottom lashes, especially since I have small eyes. Pencil liners never stay on my top or bottom lashes, so I decided to try this gel eyeliner. It stays on literally the entire day. It might fade just the tiniest bit, but it does not smudge.
It's super easy to apply, the brush is amazing--not too stiff and not too soft, the colors are beautiful, the shimmer in the navy blue and forest green is NOT glittery [just a slight shimmer] which I like, the packaging overall is easy to use and looks nice, it's pretty cheap, etc etc.
Don't hesitate to buy this if you're online shopping. You can't find samples of it anyway in the stores. You will not regret it! I have never raved so much about a product before. :P
Kanebo is having a 20% off all products campaign right now, so I bought both for 1260 yen. About $13 USD.

I have this in black for two months now. I do not understand why people say that you have to wet the brush or otherwise "it won't work"... For me it works great and depending on the intensity I can wet the brush or not. With the dry brush you get a soft black, a bit more intense than with a pencil and with a moistened brush you achieve a very black line like the ones that you can get with liquids.
Also I do not have a problem using it on top of eyeshadow (why would you buy a liner if you plan on putting eyeshadow on top and then complain that it is not black enough...) It stays on at least 16 hours on me and if you let it dry after you apply it it's waterproof and smudgeproof. Note that I have slightly oily eyelids and caucasian eyes so maybe for girls with single eyelids may not work as great...
It's intensity fades just a bit but only if you look closely but after 16 hours who cares... I wear contacts all the time and I like it because it does not flake and I don't have to touch up because I hate putting on makeup in public places.
At first i did not like the brush and applied it with the brush from a Revlon liner ( which I threw away because it was so bad) but I am glad that I learned how to use the Kate one. I also use the MAC 266 with it, depending on the type of wing I want.
I think this is a great product!

I got the black one with shimmers. It's okay, but I've ditched it for my Bobbi Brown one. If you're debating between this one and Bobbi Brown, DEFINITELY get the bobbi brown.
However, the brush is AMAZING. It is my HG eyeliner brush. But man, I'VE LOST IT! I would buy the eyeliner again just for the brush. No joke.
I got the eyeliner at a slightly cheaper price than other reviewers, at 375 NT which translates to... 12 bucks? It's cheaper than Bobbi Brown and includes a brush.
Comparing this with MAC Fluidline, I actually prefer this one. Not only is it cheaper, but the brush is, again, amazing. The consistency of both gels I found somewhat similar, so I don't see why you shouldn't get this one in lieu of MAC.
The brush comes with the liner is good. But the eyeliner itself is crap. It dryes out, after 2 months it becomes diffecult to pick up the product. After 5 months, it completely dryes out. $23, i prefer a mac gel eyeliner
UPDATE:
Ok, I don't know if I should SHARE this here, since apparently (according to my mom) microwaves *might* be cancer-causing...but you know, we use it for our food and everything, so..yeah. At ur own risk, ok?
Ok. If you wanna make this go on REALLY smooth and perfect and flawless, or if the gel liner dried up before you could even finish it, here's what can help.
.
I did this tonight on a hunch, and it worked well, so I'm putting this out there. I hope it doesn't give me cancer! Haha.
.
Ok. I put my container of kate gel liner in the microwave oven (FIRST take off the plastic lid, ok?). Then I set the microwave for 20 seconds. Then I leave the kitchen. Then I come back.
And voila! Gel liner is beautiful and wondrous once more! Actually, it goes on even better than it initially did, it's just perfection.

On a recent trip to Japan, I picked this up at a drugstore. The price translated to about ten to fifteen dollars (can't remember exactly), which is excellent.
I got it in BU-1 (a lovely dark blue, with microscopic shimmer) & pretty much adore the colour. On my brown eyes, it works really well.
The formula isn't dry/crumbly & it isn't whipped cream either. Always wet your brush before dipping it into the liner, it just won't work otherwise. It goes on smoothly, looks dark, rich, matte & Angelina-Jolie-esque, lasts throughout the day. I mean, I go swimming with this stuff on (cuz I'm crazy like that).
By the way, for those people who like to smudge their liner slightly (more natural-ish, dontcha know), don't worry, "lasts" does not equal "un-blurrable." You can do that with this thing, it's not liquid liner, just do it fast before it dries. And the best part is, once you smudge it, it'll stay smudged, it won't mysteriously vanish into the ether during the day without even a little *poof* sound effect to let you know, like every other liner out there.
.
There are some reviews here that say it DOESN'T last...and I dunno..it does with me...so uh..? Am I special? Maybe I use more than the other reviewers do, or maybe I was born under a lucky star.
A teensy dot of it on the brush goes a loong way, so even though they give you the tiniest PLOP of liner in the jar (shameful), it can last you for a year. By the way, you can use this on your waterline & it won't irritate you. I wear contacts & have sensitive eyes yet I do it all the time with no problem.
The brush must be praised. It's great quality. Small, rounded off, really gets into all the spaces between your lashes. I'm a winged-liner gal, and this brush gives me magnificently lined eyes. It can be subtle or va-va-voom, depending on the side of brush you use...it's so so GOOD.
The buy was worth it for the brush alone.
Rating 3/5--one lippie off for the minimal helping they give you (tsk tsk)...one off for the packaging (too much pointless plastic...bad for the planet)...and one off becaause...you can only find it in South-east Asia. Is that unfair?
But really, that trip to Japan was a once-in-a-lifetime thing, and already I'm wishing I'd stocked up on this product. They should definitely expand their line to my country, AT LEAST. Sniff.
All in all, good buy, if you're off to Japan DEFINITELY pick this up. If not for yourself, for your niece, or your next-door neighbour.
(She will love you for it, but might secretly start cursing you under their breath after a while, because of course, owning the perfect eyeliner is akin to having tried the perfect strawberry cheesecake in a little French cafe, so now going back to ordinary cheesecakes/eyeliners is nigh impossible. Once you've seen the light, all else becomes darkness, etc. etc., and once it runs out, dammit, where will she get her fix?!!!) continued >>

I have this in BK-1, the pure matte black.
The colour is awesome! Its really black-black, not some washed out grey-black. It goes on smoothly and I find that the brush that is provided with it is sufficient enough for me (I haven't tried any other brushes).
However I have semi-oily eyelids, and this liner tends to smudge a little after some time. Other than that, its worth the price I paid :)
I'm still looking for my HG eyeliner though!!
