Tried this product out in a sample, i got the colour L49 defiantly a full coverage foundation hands down, nothing more to say than that, the reason I'm not giving it a 5 star is because the color doesnt match my skin as perfectly as id like it to, i have more yellow undertones because i fake tan, and this isnt as yellow based as id like it to be.
After reading countless reviews about Kat Von D Lock-It foundation and many other foundations I decided to give this one a try. I was previously using Mac studio sculpt foundation and although it provided the right coverage I found the color to be dull, the product to be oily, and worst of all when I smiled I permanently had smile lines on my face, but these lines were solely created by the make-up, I do not actually have smiles lines. I was tired of looking older than I actually am and after trying this foundation I think I have finally found the perfect foundation for me! This foundation provides amazing coverage without looking caked on or applying large amounts, it does not sink into my pores or create lines from facial expressions, I have not had any break outs and my face does not dry out, the colors are wonderful and finally there is a color light enough for my skin, as I wear light 42, the lightest color they make, and most importantly it lasts all day with a dewy matte finish! Overall, I Love this product!
I bought this foundation today and i love it! I
Just remember that a little bit goes a long way and if you overuse it will be too heavy.
Use correctly and you will be impressed
The coverage of this foundation is wonderful but I feel the formula requires a lot of trial and error and other maintenance to make it work. It's very thick and I found I needed to rush like a madwoman to blend in order to prevent it from setting. I used a stipple brush and the coverage was very good. I tried applying it with my fingers and a sponge and didn't get very good results. This formula is not buildable whatsoever. A mask-like thick look will probably happen if you try like I did. I found this formula very drying on my skin. Primer did help. I do feel you may need a good primer or moisturizer otherwise it will cling to dryness. I used light 48 which I felt was too dark for me and the ones below that (42-46) are too light. I also did love that it was oil-free and long lasting but I probably won't buy again because of the dryness and price ($34!!) which is a shame because the coverage is excellent.
This foundation is absolutely horrible. I feel as if I have been ripped off. The coverage is so thick and mask-like, and if you put more than one layer on, it turns into an orange and greasy mess. The shades are way to pink-tinted, making you look like you put blush all over your face. I applied a pump of this with an ELF powder brush at 7am, and by 12 noon my face was a disgusting, flaky, oil slick! Don't waste your money. Stick with Colorstay!
Obsessed with this foundation! I'd read a ton of reviews and had even got a sample from sephora before I purchased it. I have cystic, acne prone, hyper pigmented combination skin. I apply this foundation with my fingers on top of concealer and SPF.
- Easily blended. I got a few shades too dark and it still matched my skin amazingly.
- Coverage is the best I've ever tried. All my dark spots and acne scars are easily covered.
- Oil free and does NOT trigger acne on my skin.
- Lightweight for the most part, it tends to feel a little heavier when my skin gets oily, which is when I dab and reapply.
- The price! I paid $50 for a bottle although it lasted me about 5 months. Not too bad.
- It makes my skin a tad greasy. Maybe it is because I use SPF and primer underneath without powdering my face.
- It is not smudge resistant. I was so excited when I read that it's not supposed to transfer onto clothing but sadly, it still does.
- Sweaty activities will make it slowly come off although using a setting powder would definitely help.
I used this concealer as a foundation, it covered the blotches, hyperpigmentation, and acne scars on my face but it was very cakey and heavy on the face! I don't recommend for people w/ acne and who are looking for a natural-looking appearance.
I held onto this foundation for almost a month solely because of the coverage. It's amazing at hiding just about anything and can be used as not only a foundation but as a concealer to cover up the most prominent of imperfections. It was essentially my time-saving foundation for whenever I had five minutes left to finish up my morning routine and be out the door, or if my skin was going a little crazy. Where this product failed immensely for me was its longevity, and because I have found something better, I have returned it.
The best match for me was Medium 52. This was a touch dark on me, and the undertone wasn't right, but I'm yellow/olive, and I've accepted the fact that my perfect colour match probably doesn't exist. 53 was too dark and orange, 49 and 48 were too dark (strangely enough) and pink. 45 was yellow, but it only matched the lightest parts of my face and gave me a case of ghost face when applied all over.
The bottle is a little large, but it's made of plastic, and it comes with a little plastic part to keep the product from coming out, making it somewhat travel-friendly. I also like how the pump is similar to what you would find on some of the BB cream bottles from Skin79.
As stated before, the coverage is phenomenal, and as well, the product dries matte. Many have said that a seamless application requires a stippling brush, but I've had no problem using my hands--that is, on the smoother parts of my face. Despite being oily, I'm also dehydrated and prone to flaking, especially if I skimp on exfoliation. My nose is the absolute biggest problem area with this regard and KvD Lock It emphasizes my flaky patches like no other. This is near impossible to fix! It's only slightly less noticeable with powder, but the worst has yet to come....
After about three hours of wear my entire face would be quite shiny, and by six hours I would be a total mess: greasy all over, with the foundation separating, and my nose all patchy with the edges of my flakes showing. This was in cool weather, and I've never looked so oily in my entire life. I tried using different moisturizers underneath as well as a primer, and while some helped a little with the separation, nothing would prevent me from becoming a full-on oil slick by the end of the day. If I tried touching up my face the foundation would come off wherever I laid my finger (or puff, or powder brush).
I'm glad to have found something similar in the level and coverage with better longevity, because with KvD the initial wonderful finish is very short-lived.
The coverage is not that great. Doesn't cause acne. Great packaging. Good color match. Won't be buying again too expensive and similar to lower drug store foundations like maybelline superstay. Felt Overrated. I could still see my lightest acne scars :(
when I first bought this product I was not impressed what so ever. It sinked into all my fine lines and within an hour it looked like I had already had it on all day and was a greasy mess and I've never had a problem with oily skin before. I had applied it with my flattop kabuki brush, so I decided I would give it a go with the beauty blender. That's when I fell in love!! it helped blend it out much better and looked 100 percent more natural. And didn't get greasy one bit. So best way I found to use this foundation was with the beauty blender and you'll get a beautiful finish and it lasts all day for me.
