I tried this just for the sake of trying it based on reviews. I use it everyday on my face and notice my overall complexion is a lot better and smoother. I use it on my arms one day because I have KP and my upper arms has been a lot smoother. It even diminished the size of a scar I have on my arm. The first time I used it on my face it stung though, I guess it's because of the large pieces of salt? But everything afterwards was a charm, the price is a bit much though.
edit: hmm, its alright I don't think it's that effective
I've been using this to exfoliate my face for a little over a year now. It's too abrasive to use frequently so I use it about every 10 days. I'm really happy with it as long as I use very gentle pressure so I won't hurt myself. lol. It makes my face soft and smooth. The scent doesn't bother me but my bff hates it. She says it smells like gasoline. And I guess it kinda does.
I use this on my face and I swear by this product. This is the product that got me addicted to lush. I hope they never discontinue it. It make my skin GLOW! My skin is so soft after using this that I cannot stop touching it. I used to use a sugar scrub from bath and body works, it was nice; but not compared to this!! Try it, you won't regret it!! I tell everyone i know to use this stuff!!!!
I don`t use this as a scrub. But I discovered that this really helps me with cystic pimples. If I see one emerging, I take a little of this product, dab it on, leave it on overnight and it takes care of it most times. So everybody who has it flying around at home and didn`t like it, try it as a spot treatment. It works for me.
Ocean Salt seems to be a love it or hate it product from what I've encountered. My husband is one of the few people I know who's in the middle. Personally, I hate it.
The only good things I can really say about Ocean Salt from my point of view are that the color and mixing process are fun (I may be a grown woman, but I like bright, funky colors and anything else that make skincare more entertaining for me), the smell is relatively nice (it's citrusy but not lemony; I hate lemon scented things) and it's from LUSH so I know it's made with lots of healthy, natural ingredients. All of those are great, but if a product doesn't work for me, then it doesn't matter how much fun it is to play with or how nice it smells.
But as far as actually using this monster of a scrub goes, it's a complete failure for me. The salt crystals are WAY too harsh for my sensitive dry/combo skin. They leave my face red and sore and doesn't do much of anything to help with dry spots. All I get is a sore, red face and sometimes itchiness from the lanolin (which I'm allergic to and can only tolerate in conditioners). I've never found it helpful as a treatment for pimples, either. In fact it seems to make them worse on me, probably from the irritation of being scrubbed raw by the salt. I also had trouble with the scrub getting into the grooves on the tub and keeping it from closing tightly, letting in water and air.
There are very few LUSH skincare products that I truly don't like and Ocean Salt is one of them. For a while, we had it on hand in our house because my husband used it on his back to try to clear up his acne (it didn't really help, although he went through several tubs trying and seemed to like the feel of it on his skin, which is much, much tougher than mine is), but I won't be buying it anymore. It's a waste of money.
PROS: (1) fun blue color; (2) nice, citrusy smell; (3) natural ingredients.
CONS: (1) WAY too harsh for my skin; (2) doesn't help with dryness or blemishes; (3) expensive; (4) contains lanolin which can cause allergic reactions in people allergic to wool (like me).
I'm using this as a weekly body scrub, especially after waxing my legs. Very creamy, and the salt dissolves onto your leg very nicely. I think my hair and skin looks great after I've been swimming in the ocean, so there must be something in using products which contain sea salt. Am looking forward to having Rub Rub Rub Shower Gel come out here, as I think using that will be more cost effective. I use this very occasionally on my face, only in summer.
I cannot live without this product.
It gives me the best complexion and the salt heals my blemishes without fail.
I leave it on as a mask for a minute or two and then follow it up with a great moisturizer when I get out of the shower.
I think people are just afraid of the rough texture...but obviously, as the salt dissolves on wet skin its abrasiveness lessens.
Plus, it smells so wonderfully citrusy!!
I think this is my favorite LUSH product....in spite of my love of their entire line!
I absolutely LOVED this scrub when I bought my first jar. It made my skin sooo soft and glow-y..but my skin changed and became a little more sensitive and it started making me break out a little and burn when I used it..however a lush associate showed me that you can use this on your feet and it will take all the callouses and stuff off it..so if this is too harsh for your face, try it on your feet!
this stuff is WAY too harsh
can't even use it on my hand
leaves my face and hands all red and irritated after,
make sure you try this before you buy
although it's got good reviews but it's definitely not for everyone
This is my favorite exfoliant ever. The sea salt isnt too harsh and leaves my face/body feel squeaky clean. It gives a nice glow to the skin and there's also coconut and avocado butter in this so it's not too drying for the skin .
