It's just that this mascara SMUDGES like crazy!
It's a shame because I really love it, it's a great lovely brush and it actually gives my short lashes volume.
I have a combination skin and my eyelids can be greasy so that's why I bought the waterproof.
My eyes look like raccoon eyes after a short time. I don't have that with other waterproof mascaras even with non waterproof, it doesn't smudge like this one.
Never buy this again.
I'm going to preface this review by saying that I do not have extraordinarily oily lids or sensitive eyes. If you have the former, this mascara is definitely not for you. I'd highly suggest you try Lancome Defincils instead.
I picked up this mascara after all the raves on MakeupAlley.
The first thing that got me was the brush - it's a strange U shape that takes alittle getting used to. After much experimentation, I found that using the bristly underside of the "U" was the best for getting all-around generous application without clumps. I then would take one of the sides of the brush and wiggle it through the lashes for definition and a bit of volume.
The mascara is a tiny bit clump prone (though Black Drama is worse) but nothing unmanageable. It can easily be avoided with the "wiggle" application.
A couple things about the formula - I found that this is a very wet mascara, so be cautious when applying multiple coats. I found that one was usually enough for my desired volume and "blackness." And while I'm on the topic of "blackness" - this mascara is a very dark, rich black, which I loved. However, this was one of the toughest WP mascaras I've ever removed. I found that massaging Jojoba oil into my lids and over my lashes for a minute or two before gently removing with a cotton pad was the best way to get it all off. You could also do this with a makeup remover, but I HIGHLY suggest you use an oil-based MU remover, like Lancome Bi-Facil, to get this product off. I tried removing it by soaking it with a L'Oreal Oil-Free MU remover and it barely budged.
The mascara wears fairly well for a couple hours - it holds a curl pretty well and was flake-resistant - but it began to smudge beneath my eyes after a couple hours, giving me the "raccoon" effect. Black Drama did NOT have this effect on me.
tl;dr version of my review:
-Holds a curl
-Cheap and widely available
-Smudged on me
-Takes a sandblaster to remove
-Don't expect "false" lashes from this mascara
This mascara is really great for those who have thick lashes already and are just looking for some dramatic length and definition. I have short, thin eyelashes and would prefer volume over length/definition. Unfortunately, this mascara doesn't give enough volume for me. It doesn't thicken my lashes at the root to give the illusion that I have a lot of eyelashes. It is quite amazing in its ability to hold a curl. I curl my lashes after I apply this at 7 in the morning and my lashes are still curled by 7 at night. My main problem with this mascara was that it was too much work to remove. I use makeup remover to take it off, then in the shower I use face wash to clean the area again, and by the time I'm out of the shower I have raccoon eyes again! The formula is so tacky that it's so hard to get off I feel like I lost half my lashes to this product.
Loved this mascara! It lengthened my lashes with even one application. The application went on my lashes really smoothly as the product's consistency is pretty wet and not clumpy. It dried quick and lasted all day long. I can't say that it made my lashes fuller but it did lengthen it.
This product, hands down, is my favorite mascara EVER! It really does make your lashes look false as well as fill in some of the gaps between your lashes! I like that when you feel your lashes after you put on this mascara, it isn't stiff like some other mascaras. I will definitely buy this product over and over again :)
This produce is amazing, I defiantly recommend buying it!
If you are looking for lengthening, defining, volumzing mascara -this is the mascara for you!
YOU WILL LOVE IT!
I was really excited to try this, but it really wasn't great. It's really good for increasing length, but it clumps, drys too quickly to fix, and is really thick so I was only able to try one coat. You have to comb it through with another brush RIGHT after you put it on.
Wow. Surprisingly impressed by this Maybelline product. I have not purchased anything Maybelline since high school but based on MUA reviews and it being on sale I picked up the purple tube.
When I find a mascara I like I stick with it. I was a die hard fan of MF 2000 Calorie and Stretch & Separate but since it was discontinued I have been a bit lost and honestly haven't been wearing mascara for the last year.
I have liked this mascara from my first application. One coat looks great but I usually add a couple more. I have noticeable volume and length and it holds a curl!
The spoon brush is on the bigger side and it is a bit flimsy. When I drag the brush against the inner tube to drag off excess it bends very easily, but that doesn't really affect application. I have not noticed any smudging.
The price is right so I think I'll stick to this mascara!
I like: waterproof, drier formulas that volumize and lengthen and don't clump. Must hold a curl.
Mascaras I hate: Benefit Bad Gal, Rest of Maybelline, Rimmel, Lash Blast was ok but it wouldn't come off easily enough for me. Lancome doesn't hold a curl for me.
Other mascaras that worked for me: MF line, Katie B Faux Lash, Chanel Exceptionnel
Didn't do anything for me. I bought this coz of the commercial. It didn't really add volume or length. It didn't have that 'falsies' effect. It clumps a lot too! I was really disappointed with this one!
Loving this product! Heard many complaints about the brush although if used right it goes on like a dream! It really does give the false lash affect, my only issue was that it clumps but with a dry brush you can remove those easily, otherwise, great find! Will repurchase!
