Please, please someone tell me why this gets the "Best-of" in the mascara catagory time & time again?? This stuff is junk~and I have tried many, many mascara's & I truly do not get any good remarks about this brand at all. First off, if you curl your lashes then apply.....FORGET it~ they will go poker straight. Completely takes the curl right out. Then add the coating which is almost theatric-like, and boy don't make a mistake & smudge it....cause it will take forever to get off.
BIG FAT YUCK!!!
Worst mascara I have ever bought. All it does is color my lashes.
I had high hopes for this mascara due to all the ads I saw for it.
But through trial and error I realized that it left me with stubby, clumpy lashes. It lacked volume, made absolutely no length, and it smudged easily.
this is the most over rated mascara.
i genuinely don't understand what the big deal is with this mascara. it does absolutely nothing for me! no dramatic effect, not much lengthening nothing.
would not purchase again, no matter how inexpensive it is.
Urgh. Probably like most other reviewers, I found out about this on one of those "Best [product]" lists in popular fashion/beauty/style magazines. I think this was one of my first ventures into the mascara world and I figured for such rave reviews and about $3 a pop, it couldn't hurt, right? Yeah, it didn't hurt... but that's not all Great Lash CAN'T do... in fact, Great Lash is only good for people with great, thick, full BUT light eyelashes. For everyone else that actually wants their mascara to do something other than color your eyelashes, find something else... It doesn't hold a curl, it doesn't thicken, it doesn't lengthen...it just gives a little color (which I really don't need anyways) plus it clumps. The only reason it doesn't get a complete "1" is because it was cheap and well.. it does give color.
This is the most boring mascara I have ever used. I would recommend it for people who have light coloured lashes and simply want to darken their lashes for a natural daytime look. I have dark and fairly long lashes naturally so what I want is something that thickens and slightly lengthens my lashes. This isn't it. As for application. I don't want to have to curl my lashes, wipe the brush, apply two coats waiting in between for them to dry etc etc. There are better inexpensive mascaras out there that do the job with either one or two coats and you don't need to wipe the brush or curl your lashes. For australians I would suggest Face Of Australia Glamourous lashes at less than $10 and Australia Lash Magnitude at $11.
It's cheap and you get what you paid for. Seriously. This mascara clumps and doesn't hold curl very well. My lashes went flat as soon as I stepped out of my house. It may work on other people, but not on me.
Wow! I'm surprised at so many negative reviews! All the magazines say this is THE drugstore mascara! I wore this for years all through school, college, and into adulthood. I have long eyelashes and I loved how dramatic a look I could get with Very Black. It worked great for my high-maintainance younger self, but not so much after I became a mom and wanted a more natural look.
I don't like the thickness, stickiness, and general goopyness of this mascara now. I didn't mind it when I was younger, but I had to be careful to remember not to touch my eyes. Now I think, I should be able to rub my eyes if I need to! Also, it is a MESS to take off. It gets everywhere and stains washclothes (and sheets I found out, after I dropped the mascara brush on my bed.) I think I've just moved on from this mascara.
As a 47 year old certified makeup junkie, I have never liked this mascara. I've wanted to love this mascara like so many other people, and have tried it numerous times over the year's, but it's terrible. Maybelline full and soft mascara is excellent.
