years and years ago, i had tried this mascara and hated it. it smeared and clumped, so i chucked it and moved on. a couple of months ago, i was browsing through the circulars and noticed it was on sale for $4.99. i figured, eh, they've probably changed the formula by now, and all the makeup pros are always hyping it up, so i went out and bought another tube. has it been improved? nope. still hate it. it was clumpy straight out of the tube and smudged within hours. ran like a persecuted refugee dashing for the border. bah.

LOVE Great Lash mascara! I've tried a million different brands and always keep coming back to this one. I like that you can apply a single coat for a daytime look or multiple coats for a more dramatic look. And this NEVER clumps on me. Great Lash truly is my HG mascara.

Okay...with this I have mixed feelings. This is because I bought this on two separate occassions with completely different results on each.

The first time I bought this was about two years ago at Target when they were having a special two pack, which was the same price as one. Buying into the hype, I decided to give it ago (this was before I discovered this site). Well, no surprise, I had the raccoon eyes about a hour after I applied it. I promptly gave the other tube to my sister and threw the one I used in my makeup bag for emergencies only. Based upon this tube, I would say it was the worst mascara ever.

Now, fast forward to the present. I was at Walgreens, and they had a two pack (regular and waterproof) for $5. I needed waterproof mascara ASAP for that night (humidity and selling food at an outdoor concert) and since it only needed to be for one night every week, I decided to give it a second chance. I was fully planning on never really using the regular Great Lash and jsut keep it around for when all I am leaving the house for is something like running to the grocery store. Well, then I thought I should at least try it out on a day when I was not planning on leaving the house. When I looked in the mirror about four hours later, not a smudge at all! In fact, my lashes looked quite fenomenal still. Then about seven hours after initial application, Great Lash really made my lashes look great. It was only when it hit the twelve hour mark did it become less noticable. The only smudging was from my eyeliner.

So you can see how I have mixed emotions. I have been using the regular formula with fantastic results (waterproof is decent) and I am completely floored as to how it could be the same version of mascara. So, as it stands, the three lippies was an average and I will continue to use up the tube because even in the typical 90-100% humidity of where I live, it stands up quite strong. But will I buy again? Not quite sure, for if it came in another such package, possibly, but I will more than likely stick to my tried-and-true Full n' Soft.

I can see how this can be a good, inexpensive workhorse mascara for MAs in the nineties, when drug store mascara selection was limited at best. However, I don't understand anyone touting this as "the best mascara" (or even a great mascara) anymore when there are so many different types drugstore mascaras are comparable in price and deliver better results across the board.

I've purchased this on two separate occasions (in the WP and non-WP versions). Overall, I was disappointed. IMO, this product is overhyped and it underdelivers. Sure, it makes my lashes thicker and it clumps less than some other mascaras that I've tried, but it does nothing to help lengthen my lashes. It's great if you already have long lashes and just want an inexpensive everyday mascara, but there are better mascaras out there if your lashes need a little bit of extra help.

Also, the non-WP version smudges like crazy.

What is all the fuss about? I think this an emperor's new clothes scenario. Everyone raves so much about it that if it doesn't work for you you think you must have bought a dud one or you must be alone in your criticism. Best keep quiet though as everyone else thinks it's so great. But it's time we all stood up and said - you know what, this mascara's rubbish!

It did nothing for my eyes as in it didn't thicken, lengthen or even really darken my lashes.

I love this mascara!! It's so cheap and still makes for one of the best mascaras I've tried. It's much better than most of the expensive brands out there. Can't believe it's such an old formula, what did science do in teh last decades?:) My lashes are extremely thin and soft, it's impossible to get them to hold a curl. But with this formula they look thick and nice, but not too "made".

This is a light, no nonsense mascara and is not meant to work as a volumizer or thickening mascara whatsoever. If used for its intended purpose, it is great!
