I have only been into wearing primers for just over a year now, but I can for sure say that this one is not the greatest there is out there.
Sure, it's cheap, but you get what you pay for.
It came out an apricot colour and totally changed the shade of my face. I looked like an Oompah-Loompah!
My foundation covered most of the apricot, but it affected the shade of my foundation.
It goes on way too thick for my liking and is hard to rub in.
It didn't prolong the wear of my makeup and didn't really smooth anything out.
I can't really compare this to another primer since this is my first, but when I wear this under my foundation I notice a huge difference. My pores did appear smaller, and foundation application was easier.
But there is a huge factor keeping me from using or buying this again. I don't know if it is because I am so fair, but it turned me orange. I can't believe I didn't notice this at first but when I first wrote this review I didn't notice , but that was because I would do my make up routine in my room. Then the other day I went into the bathrooms at school and noticed my face looked orange, and noticed this today as I was doing my face routine.
I am so embarrassed, I have been walking around looking like an oompa loompa when I was thinking I looked fabulous. So let down :(
I have only used Smashbox Primer before this, and I'm loving this way, way more. Although it contains some cones, it doesn't give the silicone-slippery feel that smashbox and many other primers give. With this primer, I don't notice my foundaiton lasting longer BUT i do notice that it fills in my pores very, very well. It WORKS for all day! My skin is light to medium, and the orange tint disappears into my skin. It's totally invisible unless you're extremely fair. I only use a drop of this product on my cheeks and nose and it smoothes out my skin!
Turned my skin orange, did NOT reduce pore size at all, and my skin was an oil slick by the end of the day. I have tried high-end primers and was avoiding sticker shock by getting this one at Wal-Mart, but in the world of primers, I guess you get what you pay for. Back to Smashbox Light.
I guess I'm too pale for this stuff (NC20) My face was orange and even after I put my foundation on I noticed that my face was wayyy darker than my neck. It was gross! :( I returned it the next day
after using this for about a week I started getting small itchy patches on my face which took about more than a week to heal. This peach color did scare me at first, but it is invisible once you apply it onto your face and it kind of kept of oiliness to a minimum. its a little watery than my mac prep + prime. I only bought it to find another primer thats cheaper, but i'll stop there. I'll just stick to my prep + prime. I would not repurchase this product ever again. My skin just reacted so badly which is unusual because I didn't think my skin was sensitive or anything.
Though I did like the actual effect of this primer, it wasn't worth the side-effects. This primer worked great for both liquid and mineral foundation. My only complaints were the apricot color of the primer, which actually did leave an orange cast on my fair skin, and it definitely broke me out, after trying this primer for about two weeks on two separate occasions.
I'd recommend this to someone who doesn't have sensitive, acne-prone, fair skin but not for me.
I love this primer. While I prefer silica based primers, this does its job, and im sure its better for people with more sensitive, breakout prone skin. It doesnt leave me orange at all, and I'm always the lightest colors in all foundations. I love this and i switch off between this and my sally hansens by carmindy primer. You dont need a lot, and the tube lasts forever. Love this!
I like how this product evens out my skin tone. However it doesnt really leave my skin particularly smooth like a moisturizer like a primer is supposed to. Overall a good product for is price. Might repurchase. I liked to wear this with a little bit of powder in the summer because it left my skintone even, and matte.
This is the only primer I have any experience with, so I can't speak on any others.
The peach isn't an issue once I blend it in and keeps the oil at bay without making my face feel heavy. My makeup stays on a bit better than without a primer.
