28th May update:This foundation is advertised as oil free and non-acnegenic. I did think it was interesting that it was NOT advertised as non-comedogenic. I personally think that if you have ever had a break out with a product, you should only use non-comedogenic foundations and moisturisers. Non-comedogenic means it doesn't clog pores. Non-acnegenic seems to mean it shouldn't cause acne but it might still cause clogged pores which in acne-prone people seem to lead to acne - though I'm not a scientist so don't hold me to that. I also understand that companies can say something is non-comedogenic without being held accountable, so you need to check the ingredients yourself. I've only recently started doing this because it seems like SUCH a mission. But spending 30 mins on the ingredients list is a breeze compared to the suffering of a breakout, especially if severe. This foundation has algae extract listed as an ingredient, which is a botanical extract that is rated as a very highly pore clogging ingredient. My previous foundation from L'Oreal was advertised as non-comedogenic and checking the ingredients list, none of the ingredients were comedogenic. A+ to L'Oreal.

I think that NO cosmetic company should be producing a FOUNDATIOn (i.e. to make your skin look better) that causes it to look worse. It's like taking medicine to be sicker.

Before checking the ingredients list, I tried this product:

25th May: I love the consistency and the colour (NC35) - the yellow undertones look fresh and youthful. I used the MAC primer, let it set and then lightly applied this foundation - more heavily around my T-zone and more lightly around my jaw and lip line as that seems to be the break out risk area - my skin is fairly good if it is heavily managed.

At the end of day 1 of wear, the shade was still great (not much oxidisation), but the coverage not so great - the foundation had separated on my face, so some sat in my pores and caught to drier parts of my face and the rest had slicked off. It was pretty oily. Anyway, the next day I had two unusually large spots just above my jaw and another on top of my lip. Hmmmm. It may be the primer rather than the foundation, but still a little unimpressive.

Honestly I like the product but I got it in the new shades that came out because I was matched too "NC3.5" but I'm usually am NC20 they said it was a mixture between 20-25 so I'm like okay whatever. I tried the sample it looked dark n orangey and I went back with make up on the guy matched me to the same colour and it looked good in the mirror, brightened up my face and everything but I barely reach for it now because I feel as if I put liquid bronzer all over my face. It smells nasty but such good coverage. I have tiny dry patch near my mouth n nose probably n it really brings out my dryness I'm like oh cool thanks. So you pretty much need perfect skin to use this med-full coverage foundation but I wouldn't understand why someone who has perfect skin use this anyway if they have perfect skin. Anyways I wish I could return it or something. Waste of $45.

I have recently been on a foundation mission to see what other products are out there, and honestly nothing really beats studio fix in my mind. I have had this foundation for a very long time and I love it, but I thought I would try and see what else is out there. I have tried many different foundations, NARS, Estee lauder, Ingalot, Chanel the list goes on. While I liked some of those products, I kept going back to studio fix. My skin is combination, but all in all very easy to deal with. When I wear foundation, I actually want to feel like I have something on, I want a medium to full coverage, that does not look like I have a layer of slap on my face, but something that gives me a flawless finish and this foundation has this. It's coverage, texture, application and colour is fantastic. I also must say that although this foundation is expensive in Australia over $50 it is worth it and lasts a very long time. I would recommend this to anyone that is searching for the perfect foundation. My tip, use studio fix powder to set the foundation for an even finish. This foundation is one of my staple products. I always have to have this in my makeup collection as its my security blanket. This foundation is great for those who want that extra coverage i would say its medium to full coverage and it is buildable. The price isn't bad at all for a high end foundation and one that is good. The packaging is nice the bottle can look small but there is the right amount of product in there, I am in the shade "NC20" I struggled with finding my shade at first as i bought it offline the first time but its the perfect match they also have a wide colour range so without a doubt your skin tone will be there. I love the finish of this foundation is isn't too matte but it isn't to shiny or oily. I have oily to combination skin so sometimes i can be tricky picking out foundations and i have found this one works amazingly well on the skin! I would normally wear this on days i need a little extra coverage whether i have had a breakout or im just having a bad skin day then this foundation is perfect. I have also noticed how long lasting it is throughout the day after a while though it does start to crease and settle into any fine lines and it can become very oily especially in the T-Zone area but other then that this foundation is perfection.

This foundation was probably the 2nd MAC foundation I purchased. I used this product for a few years before trying anything else. But the older I got, the oilier I got, and this foundation became near useless to me. It didn't do anything for my acne-prone and oily skin, especially during the warmer months. Primers and powders did not help keep the foundation in place in the summer. It would for the first 2 hours, but would have to re-apply blotting powder during the day - multiple times a day. If you have VERY oily skin, you'll probably have the same opinion.

This is the only foundation I use and will continue to use. I have oily skin and this foundation provides a wonderful matte and even glowing coverage. A little goes a long way. I suggest purchasing the pump and a stipple brush. Overall amazing coverage and quality.

I use nw10 because nc15 was just too yellow and this foundation give medium to FuLL coverage when used with the correct primer. It's not patchy but if you have dry skin you may want to use a good moisturizer though. Combo skin would just use a light primer. Other than that I love this foundation it provides much needed coverage to my acne scarred face.

I was recommended to use mac by many of my friends who adore mac. I went along to a store and said that I wanted something with fairly full coverage but not too cakey. They matched me to this Studio Fix Fluid and it looked great in the store and stupidly I bought it there and then from pressure from the salesperson.
The foundation just sits awfully, whether it is applied with fingers or foundation brush, with or without primer and moisturiser etc. tried many different ways but just sits on the skin and doesn't soak in properly. Shows up my pores on my cheeks hugely, never had this problem before either! Colour provides a good base but consistency is just awful. Also shows any sign of dryness that you have... I never see any signs of dryness usually but it showed up all around my nose and forehead and didn't feel smooth.

Good points:
The colour is well matched to my skin. Wide range of colours available. Would be good for oily skin and people with very small pores. Suit cool tones.

Bad points:
Just awful, awful consistency. Bad for dry skin of any kind. Shows any signs of large pores on cheeks etc.

Would not recommend I'm afraid. Mac, I wanted to you to live up to your name!

I really wanted to love this product, I tried so many different ways of applying it but could not get it to work for my skin. It is the most expensive foundation I have bought, ($60 NZD) yet I found colorstay worked better than this. Many people have talked about it being a long lasting foundation, but i did not find this was true, infact it came off in a lot of places and settled into my lines and pore, it also made my skin look greasy despite the fact I do not have oily skin.
I feel when you first apply it, it looks pretty good, but half an hour later it has already begun to settle into your lines and pores.
The shade I purchased was the lightest shade ( i think) NW13 and although I have pale skin, there are many people with lighter skin than I, which leads me to believe that MAC need to introduce a better range of colours.
I liked the sleek look of the bottle, but didnt have a pump which could lead to hygiene problems.
overall I found it didnt do that much for me and I would not purchase it again, nor will I finish it (something I usually do) which is disappointing considering the price tag and it also means Im still on the hunt for my HG foundation
